tor! I now have a number of
ideas for improving our meet-
ings and we are beginning to
form a committee to search for
new opportunities to show and
sell our work. So far we have
3 board members and 2 other
members on it. If you would
like to join us in this effort or
have any ideas of places we
should investigate, please let
me know
512-795-0203).
Later on, I will email each of
you the full summary of the
2015 survey results. The first
page of the results can be
found on page 8 of this news-
letter. If you have any ques-
tions or further suggestions,
please let me know.
I hope to see everyone at the
free Nicholas Simmons
demonstration on Sunday,
March 1 at 3pm. And don’t
forget to drop off your paint-
ings for judging in the Spring
Membership show from 11;15
to 12:15 beforehand.
As we March onwards into
2015 (yes, I meant the pun),
I would like to summarize
the January survey results
for you. First of all, thank
you all who took the survey!
It was very interesting read-
ing and you gave the board
a lot of great ideas for im-
proving WWG.
There were about 35 mem-
bers who responded. I gave
3 points to the top sugges-
tion/activity for each ques-
tion, 2 points for the second,
and one point for the third.
The point counts are in pa-
rentheses after the ranking.
Not everyone responded to
all questions and some only
had one or two responses.
What we do best and
should keep on doing:
#1:Multi-day workshops
with professional artists(70),
#2: Shows(major juried)
(39) and #3 Mini workshops
(30). Other good things we
do were Demonstrations,
Newsletter, Great Members,
Meetings/opportunities for
camaraderie, Activities, Li-
brary/Paper sales and Par-
ties/Lunches. So, great job
Workshop folks (Michele
Missner, Chuck Wallace,
and Tina Broderick), for-
mer Show VP Helen Green,
along with all the hard-
working show chairs, and all
who taught the mini work-
shops this past year! Kudos,
also, to the board and mem-
bers who have generously
donated their time to support
WWG’s mission in other
ways.
What we could improve up-
on or start: #1 increase/
improve activities & demon-
strations. (49), #2: Improve
General Meetings (28) and
#3: Improve opportunities for
selling/promoting our art (25).
Other suggestions for im-
provement included Improve
workshops/mini-workshops,
Improve Shows, Support the
Board and Party/social/
member recruitment. I think
we already are well on our
way to addressing the first
issue by having our former

Bring Paintings for Judging
Our 37th spring show paintings are due
between 11;15 and 12:15 at Apache
shores Sunday to be juried by Nicholas
Simmons. Kindly have your information
taped to the upper left rear of the paint-
ings, as noted in the prospectus which
was in our newsletter. Nicholas will look
at up to 3 of your paintings, decide which
one will be in the show, choose prizewin-
ners, and also include other paintings to
hang in May at the Corridor of Art. We
will hang about 55 paintings.
After Judging:
At 2:30, kindly remove ALL your paint-
ings from the hall so that we can have the
demo from 3 to 5. At that point, the
workshop people will take over.
Prize Winners
All prize winners must send Eileen
Pestorius a jpg of their work(we’ll tell
you the happy news) so we can print bro-
chures for the show opening in May. We
hope everyone participates and will an-
nounce the Corridor of Art hanging and
reception times closer to the dates.

Membership News, by Pat Molina
Thank you all who renewed this month. New
member Carol Keller joins us, along with
Jacqui Boyd, who is returning.
If you haven-t renewed your membership in
our group for 2015, now is the time. Starting
next month, we will update our mailing list for
2015. Don’t get dropped from the list and
miss out on our newsletters, shows, work-
shops, and activities.
Please consider using PayPal to pay for mem-
bership; and, as always, checks are accepted.
The membership application may be found at
the end of this newsletter or on the WWG web
page. Just click on the “join Us” red button
and download/print the application. For those
who have signed up again, thank you. Water-
loo is a wonderful bunch of folks who love to
paint and share in fellowship.
Here’s a quote I found from Eric Wiegardt that
I’ve been thinking about: focus on what
makes a good composition and the design
tools needed to attract the eye, carry it
throughout the picture plane, and then rest on
the Area of Dominance. If you haven’t renewed
your membership, now
is the time! Starting
next month, we will up-
date our mailing list for
2015. Don’t get
dropped from the list
and miss out on our
newsletters, shows,
workshops, and activi-
ties. Contact Eileen at:

Bookworms by Eileen Pestorius
The Bookworms met on their regular quarterly Saturday morn-
ing Feb. 7 at 9:30 AM. Eileen Pestorius hosted, 512 Kon-
stanty Circle. We discussed the 800-plus pages of Titian
which we’ve been reading for longer than usual on dark winter
days! Popes, dukes, and the Holy Roman Emperor all fit into
the Renaissance life of this great painter, one of the first to use
oil while portraying saints and myths in grand art.
Our next choice will be a modern mystery set in Rome and
filled with art crime for a total change of pace. All members
are welcome.
Logo Update Contest.
It has been suggested by several that our long time logo needs a facelift. Since it has been part of WWG
for many years our goal is to renew it, but keep it similar enough that it still recognizable as our symbol.
Think the Morton Salt girl, Coca Cola or Wendy's.
Send your designs to [email protected] and we will give the membership a chance to choose.
Deadline: May 31st Prize: $100
As a little side note, Carol McCollum told us a family member designed the original Morton salt girl.

Introduction to Chinese Brush Paint-
ing, Detail Style, with Vivien Burns
March 24, 2015, 9:30-2:30 with a 6 stu-
dent limit, $35 contact:
Learn this meditative and mind awaken-
ing art form using the four treasures of
Chinese art (bamboo brush, ink stone,
ink stick, and rice paper). Vivien will
guide you from ink sketching to finish in
Detail Style and explore how to extend
techniques to Spontaneous Style. All

Shuen Paper and Sized Shuen Paper) and
Ink for you in the class
Vivien Wushan Burns is deeply passion-
ate about Chinese Brush Painting. She
studies with masters in china and Tai-
wan. She stills the mind, grinds ink on
stone, draws wolf-hair brush across rice
paper creating prolific imagery: compo-
sitions that balance filled and vacant
space. Originally from Taiwan, Vivien
lives in Austin, TX. Check on Vivien’s
work at www.inkstonefineart.com.
Picnic/Paint Out at Lonnie Shan’s
Ranch in Thorndale

drive and offer rides, let Helen know.
Lonnie is furnishing the BBQ and it’s up
to guests to bring the sides. It is pretty
easy to get out here. Only two ways
from Austin, and both go through Tay-
lor.
We plan to eat first, let people scatter to
paint , then meet up again for a critique
around 3pm or so.
As for supplies, people need to
bring their own lawn chair and art sup-
plies. We sill have a cooler with iced
down bottled water and sodas available.
Tea will be provided for lunch. I also
plan on having county maps available
with nearby interesting areas highlight-
ed. More details in the April newsletter.

new way of registering for workshops. It has
not been completely worked out, but will be

tions, please add your name to the wait list if
you are interested. There are many changes
one month before the workshop and you just

Your input, please:
The Brommer workshop was difficult to fill.
We had enough on the wait list, but in the end,
after many drops and adds, we were one per-
son short of our quota. We would like to hear
from you what we can do for our members to
make you want to attend workshops that we
plan for you. We have had wonderful artists
that everyone in the workshops had enjoyed
working with. Is it the time of year? Would
Jan/Feb, and later in the fall be better? Do we
start registration too early? Send your com-
ments to Michele Missner at:
