STATEMENT PROPOSAL In order to reach the point of comprehension about the power of the Femme Fatale, I need to focus on the illusion that is attributed to just such a presence. A Femme Fatale is intentionally seductive, in order to decieve her companion. The result of her deception is usually destruction. I propose to explore these three elements of the Femme Fatale: seduction, deception, and destruction, through collage.

The primary goal of my thesis is to explore and experiment with collage, and the directional state of mind that collage requires. The Femme Fatale is a great source of inspiration that has been the driving force behind the content that I have been generating. I am looking at my thesis as a platform that will allow me delve futher into a curatorial exploration of the power of the Femme Fatale.

RESEARCHThe fantasy of the Femme Fatale, the icon of film noir, is cast by the intense, erotic, seduction that a Femme Fatale possesses. In their world, the Femme Fatale is portrayed as a deeply unstable figure. Their moments of seductive power are follwed by moments of extreme weakness.

RESEARCHThe root of Surrealism comes from an exploration of Freud’s perspective on dreams and the subconscious. This focus produces intense psychological undertones in thier work. My fascination with the Femme Fatale can be attributed to the cerebral elements of a femme fatale character.

RESEARCHSurrealist art creates a narrative through the juxtaposition of seemingly random elements. Collage does the exact same thing. Individual pieces are brought together to create a whole. The difference between collage and Surrealist art, and other forms/movements is the random, but completely specific selection of the pieces. In terms of technique, collage and Surrealist art are the same.

ADJ.I ventured into a an area of less strict visual references to the Femme Fatale. The motivation behind these works was to play around with seduction, deception, and destruction and experiment with different ways of signifying those adjectives.

PLANI plan on delving into deception and destruction more than I have already. Seduction seems to be an undertone of most of the work I have been making already. I plan on creating a small publication to contaion these exercises.
