Questionnaire

Intimate partner abuse module based on the questions of Straus’s Conflict Tactics Scale;

Questions were formulate in a way that both genders could answer.

Information booklets were shared to all respondents.



Why to measure also intimate partner violence against men?

Existance of the violence in partnership relations; Comparability of the data; Gender equality.



Interviewer training and pilot survey

Psychological preparation; The responent’s answers should not be influenced

by the interviewer; Interwiewers support during the interview period.

CASI (Computer-Assisted Self-Interview); Audio-CASI (Audio Computer-Assisted Self-

Interview); Self-completed paper questionnaire; CAPI (Computer-Assisted Personal Interview).

Results

33% have experienced physical and 4% sexual violence since age 15;

10% have experienced IPV, 5% physical and/or sexual violence, during last 12 months;

Women usually have more severe emotional and physical consequences;

Higher among non-Estonians; Dependence on education level is insignificant.

Conclusions

Questionnaire needs more exact questions to clarify weather the respondent is victim or perpetrator;

Need for questions on partner’s gender; Low response rate for some questions do not allow

to analyse data on national level; Better harmonisation will be helpful for international

comparisons (need for exactly described indicators).
