As global demand for power continues to outstrip supply, augmenting power

generation capacity becomes crucial. This also calls for an efficient power generation and evacuation system to be established and sustained. While several pockets of

excellence do exist, much more need to be done, with a sense of urgency and in a more extensive scale.

The challenges that confront the Power Industry necessitate the greater utilization of automation and information technologies for its efficient operation Et management.

Fundamentally, the industry stakeholders need to appreciate the fact that, although only close to five per cent of assets in an electric utility (and distribution system)

come from automation infrastructure, the efficient functioning of the balance ninety f ive percent of plant assets depends on this. Therefore, it becomes imperative that breakthrough automation and information technologies are leveraged to the maximum towards this objective.

Automation and information technology professionals will need to offer solutions that

deliver in pruning operational costs, improve plant efficiencies, and achieve greater throughput in electric utilities. Additionally, automation solutions are crucial to cut

down technical and commercial losses in transmission/distribution of power in the country. Readying for the growth phase of the power industry through cutting edge

automation Et information technologies and driving the economic performance of power generation utilities, transmission/distribution companies have indeed become

important goals.

Key Challenges Organisers

CPRI and ISA Bangalore Section believe that this conference will

address t he key challenges that the

Power Industry is facing currently, in terms of;

• Ensuri ng Reliability and Availability

• Optimizing Processes and Lowering Operating Costs

• Staying within Government Regulations- Environmental

Challenges

• Safety and Hazard Management

• St rengthening Linkages to Grid harnessing non-convent ional

energy

CPR I

Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) was set up in 1960 by the

Government of India to function as a centre for applied research in electrical power engineering assisting the electrical industry in

product development and quality assurance. CPRI serves as an independent authority for testing and certification of power equipment. With its state of the art infrastructure and expertise,

it has made significant contributions to the power sector. Read more at www.cpri.in

ISA Bangalore Section

ISA Bangalore Section is a part of International Society of Automation, founded in 1945, ISA is a leading, global, nonprofit

organization that is setting the standard for automation by helping over 30,000 worldwide members and other professionals solve

difficult problems. Read more at www.isabangalore.org and www.isa.org

I ERE

The event is supported by IERE - International Electric Research Exchange, a non-profit, financially self-sustaining international organization consisting of corporations and institutions not only

from electricity supply industries, , but also from manufacturers from developed and developing economies. IERE is a global

organization established in 1968, serving executives, senior managers and researchers who are responsible for electricity and energy related R&.D, representing the electricity Et Energy supply

industry, equipment providers, academic research and government.

Set in store for this two day confere~nc~e~is~t~h~e;a~c~t~~·v~e:~---............ _ participation of key policy makers, ~wer generation and distribution utilities, engineering consultancy organizations, global automation suppliers , and global IT solution providers to address

the key challenges of the Power Industry.

The conference is directed towards all professionals in the automation and IT industry who have a stake in the power industry.

This conference is designed to enrich the decision makers and key operational level personnel across the power supply chain.

The conference and the exhibition offers the region's largest platform, focusing on the latest t rends in the automation for

different modes of Power generation such as in Thermal, Hydel, Nuclear, and Alternative Green Generation like Solar, Wind etc.

and its Smart Distribution.

The importance of automation in the power industries has

increased dramatically in recent years with the view to the current energy situation and environmental issues. Automation here serves to supply power with high reliability, flexibility, efficiency, asset

management and safety to reduce carbon emission with the mix and match of renewable and conventional sources.
