TCn Priorities

• Short Term Plans and Priorities:– Prepare 2015-2016 Yearly shut down• See Michel talk.. • Need to decide if we open the detector : very soon

– Magnet repairs may be needed (high priority)– Tile calorimeter will need to repair some drawers on both sides– CSC may want to repair some chambers (Side A)– LAr can make use of the opening but do not require it– ID endplate seems to be in a better shape but ID may require

some (low priority) interventions

Page 8: Section Meeting: TC overview. Outline TCn organization TCn activities – Maintenance and new installations Short term priorities Mid Term priorities Long.

TCn Priorities

• Short Term Plans and Priorities 2015-16 shut down:– AFP installation

• Cabling should be done for sure• Roman Pot Stations of one arm may be done if commissioning

finished– Thermosiphone

• Should be finally connected during the Winter shut down and used to cool the ID in next run

– Work on RPC system that do not require opening of the detector• This work is taken care mainly by the RPC community with some

involvement of TCn

Page 9: Section Meeting: TC overview. Outline TCn organization TCn activities – Maintenance and new installations Short term priorities Mid Term priorities Long.

TCn Priorities

• Mid Term Plans and Priorities:– Shut down 2016-17• Extended winter shut down (4+ months) • The detector should be opened and all the

maintenance needed should be performed• Magnet repairs (if not yet done in previous year)• Also some installations of new detectors are foreseen:

– Second Arm of the AFP detector (or first and second arm)– BMG chambers in sector 12 and 14

» Complicated installation (next slide)

TCn Priorities• Mid Term Plans and Priorities:– Shut down 2019 LS2• Very long list of activities in LS2

– Large opening of the detector– Disinstallation of SWs and installation of NSW– Work on the LAr electronics – Work on Tile Drawers– Installation of BIS7/8– Standard maintenance of the full detector – Refurbishment of some central infrastructure

» CV controls (taken care by EN)» Possibly DSS» UPS systems » …..

Page 12: Section Meeting: TC overview. Outline TCn organization TCn activities – Maintenance and new installations Short term priorities Mid Term priorities Long.

TCn Priorities• Long Term Plans and Priorities:– Shut down 2024- LS3

• Huge amount of work to be performed in limited time and with limited manpower in difficult environment– Large opening of the detector– Decommissoning of the present ID– Disinstallation of NSWs and subsequent re-installation– Installation of the ITk– Installation of the BIL/BIS with RPC, New RPC trigger electronics, New

MDT electronics – Work on Tile Mini-Drawers– Work on LAr Electronics and on sFCAL (or Mini Fcal)– Big Wheel TGC and MDT electronics replacement– Standard maintenance of the full detector – Huge amount of cabling work– Refurbishment of some central infrastructures

Page 13: Section Meeting: TC overview. Outline TCn organization TCn activities – Maintenance and new installations Short term priorities Mid Term priorities Long.

Operations• TC is responsible for the running and the operation of the detector

– Run coordinators report to TC– Operation group dealing mainly with :

• Infrastructure operation (Electrical Power, CV, Technical Network, Rack cooling and detector cooling, ,gas systems, DSS, DCS, Sysadmin etc.)– Kendall, Sergei, Joel, Wieslaw,Diana, Schelnk… + EN people, PH-DT People

• Planning of activities (IMPACT, OP meeting..)• Magnets operation• DB activities (Kathy)

– I think that the operation group is really stretched and should be reinforced but….

– the trend that we see in the last years is that FAs tend to withdraw from operation

– I think that this attitude is extremely dangerous for all our activities and should be contrasted at management level

Page 14: Section Meeting: TC overview. Outline TCn organization TCn activities – Maintenance and new installations Short term priorities Mid Term priorities Long.

Upgrades• Upgrades in TC is mainly linked to the Project Office

– Raphael, Tatiana, Giancarlo, Marco, AugustoJulien, Vit, Tomasz, Wim, Alexandre, Jamie

• Below only few examples:– Small scale upgrades

• BIS7/8 & BMG– Full study of the installation procedure (Tatian, Wim, Alexandre)

• AFP support structures production (Michel, Christian, Alan)– Phase 1 upgrades- mainly NSW

• Study/Design of the JD and NSW structure (Marco, Giancarlo, Julien, Jamie, Augusto)• Purchaising and installation of JD and NSW structure • NSW Services (Aimilianos, Alexandre,Tatiana)• Installation procedure (Raphael, Vit, Augusto)

– Space allocation and management (Raphael, Michel, Francisco, Didier)

Page 15: Section Meeting: TC overview. Outline TCn organization TCn activities – Maintenance and new installations Short term priorities Mid Term priorities Long.

Upgrades• Phase 2 Upgrades

• ITK (Michel, Raphael, Olga, Sigi, Augusto)– Installation procedures– Financial support to detector Cooling studies– Preparation for ID decommissioning

• Muon chambers– Study of the installation procedures for the Inner layer BI-RPC (Tatiana)– Preparation for accesses for the replacement of FE electronics

• SFCal-LAR-Tile (Michel)– Participation in the feasibility study for the installation of the sFCAL– Procurement and istallation of scaffoldings to access LAr and Tile

electronics/drawers

– The PO is clearly too small to handle all the upgrade work, we have to find a way to enlarge it with the help of the institutes.

Page 16: Section Meeting: TC overview. Outline TCn organization TCn activities – Maintenance and new installations Short term priorities Mid Term priorities Long.

Safety• Safety priorities (see Sigi’s talk):

– Day to day safety• Check of the proposed activities in terms of safety (PPSPS check) • Provide list of safety courses to be followed and ensure that people participating to

activities have the correct training • Analyse and approve promptly IMPACT requests• Ensure that safety materials are maintained and operational (e.g. Dosimeters, ODH, Self

Rescue masks….)• Organize safety shifters during opening period• Ensure that TSOs and all safety officers are operational

– Run Safety• Ensure the coverage of SLIMOS shifts• Provide proper training to SLIMOSes• Ensure coverage of RPEs• Organize patrols

– Ensure a safe working environment during opening periods• Scaffolding conformities (Philippe, Didier)• Check work place and avoid overlapping work• Ensure electrical safety • …….

Page 17: Section Meeting: TC overview. Outline TCn organization TCn activities – Maintenance and new installations Short term priorities Mid Term priorities Long.
