Brown Leads Cards back to DomeRandolph coach Brent Brown was named the Coach
of the Week by the Buffalo Bills and the New YorkNational Guard after his Cardinals beat Tioga 35-6 in theNew York State semifinals in Rochester.
The win gives the Cardinals a second straight trip tothe Syracuse Carrier Dome for the Class D New YorkState championship game. Randolph will play Chester (9)on Friday at 12:00 pm for the title.
Randolph jumped on Tioga (4) early and led 14-0 inthe first quarter.
“We held them to a couple of 3-and-outs and got goodfield position,” Brown said. “Our defense was super.”
Chris Doubek scored both TDs on runs of 16 yards. He finished with203 yards on 27carries.
“He’s had aheck of a season,”Brown said.
Randolphstretched their leadto 21-0 early in thesecond quarter. After a 12-play, 63-yard drive, MitchellMaycock tossed a19-yard TD pass toBryce Morrison.
“Mitchell throwsthe ball good,”Brown said. “andwe have someguys who cancatch it.”
Maycock haspassed for 871yards and 15 TDsthis season. Hehas thrown signifi-cantly more passes this season than the Cardinals haveattempted in the past before Pat Slater retired. Slateronce led the Cardinals through the NYS tournament with-out throwing a single pass.
“We throw 7 or 8 times a game,” Brown said. “It makesour play-action work better.”
The Cardinals defense gave up a total of three firstdowns in the win. The starting unit allowed just one firstdown, and none in the first half.
“That’s impressive,” Brown said. “Against that Tiogateam, that’s impressive.”
Randolph beat Tioga 7-6 in the NYS semifinals in2012. The Cardinals stopped a 2-point PAT attempt withless than six minutes to play in the game.
“We thought it would be the same kind of a game,”Brown said, “but our defense just didn’t give them any-
thing at all.”Brown was quick to praise Randolph defensive coordi-
nator Nate Armella.“Our defense really couldn’t have been any better,”
Brown said. “Nate’s been with us for a while. He was onthe JV staff for a while and came up to the varsity whenPat retired.”
Randolph has now won 22 straight games. Last year, the Cardinals lost to Maple Grove in Week 3 to fall to 1-2before winning 10 straight games and claiming the NYSClass D championship.
“From that point on, this group has gotten better andbetter and better,” Brown said. “We were young last year
and started outslow. Once we gota little confidence itwas easier to keepit going.”
Brown is a first-time head coach, however, he hasbeen at Randolphsince 1990.
“I coached theJV defense underPat,” Brown said. “Icame up to thevarsity in the fall of2002.”
Brown wasSlater’s defensivecoordinator for adecade. He tookover the programwhen the leg-endary Slaterretired after win-ning more than200 games.
“I did the defense straight through until this year,”Brown said.
Kevin Hind, Gerald Carlson and Greg Sherlock haveall been on staff for more than 15 years.
“We have a bunch that have been here for a while,”Brown said. “The whole staff has been around the block. That made this transition pretty easy.”
Brown played quarterback at Pine Valley. “I wasn’t very good,” he said. “I was a tiny little kid. We
had a good running back so all I had to do was hand off.”Brown was a star pitcher and outfielder for the base-
ball team. He played baseball at Jamestown CommunityCollege before finishing his career at UB and Brockport.
“I coached varsity baseball for 9 years but stoppedwhen my wife and I had kids,” Brown said. “I’m going tocoach modified baseball this spring.”

In this issue is our annual All-Football Weekly team. Before the season started I asked seven area fans
who are deeply involved in the Western New YorkFootball scene to help with the selection process.
Each of the seven went WAY above-and-beyond thecall of duty and submitted four complete all-star teams.
I will not name these people. One of our criteria isthat the committee members’ identities will remain asecret. I do not want them to start getting pressured toname certain kids because peopleknow who they are... and wherethey live.
Here are a few items toremember when looking overthe selections.
1. All-Football Weekly:These teams are made up ofplayers from teams that haveparticipated with the FootballWeekly. If your school haschosen not to participate, your players are not eligi-ble. There are five teamsin Western New York thatchose not to participatewith our magazine in2013. Players fromthose five schools arenot recognized on theAll-Football Weeklyteam.
2. Positions:Each OffensiveTeam is made up of1 Quarterback, 3Running Backs, 2Wide Receivers, 5Offensive Lineman, 1 Tight End, 1 kick-er and 1 Specialty Player... 14 total.
Each Defensive Team is made up of 4 DefensiveLinemen, 4 Linebackers, 4 Defensive Backs, 1 Punterand 1 Specialty Player... 14 total.
3. Team Record: The All Football Weekly Team isloaded with players who helped their teams reachRalph Wilson Stadium and the Section 6 finals. Itmakes sense... the best teams obviously have the bestplayers. While a losing record did not disqualify anyplayer from being recognized as one of the best play-ers in Western New York, players certainly got noticedwhen their teams won more games.
4. Big Games: Big regular season games and play-off games carried more weight than other games. Bigplayers deliver in big games.
5. Behavior Counts: Players who were suspendedfor behavioral reasons were not eligible for our post-season honors. The best players should carry them-selves with some sense of dignity. Players who werediscipline problems for their teams or their schoolswere not recognized at all.
Behavior counts kids... behavior counts more thanwinning football games.
6. Grades Count: Most of these players are superi-or students... or at least good students. A few strugglewith academics but they try hard. Players who were
academically suspended because of outright lazi-ness were not eligible for the team. If
you can’t give half aneffort in the classroom,
we will not reward youwith post-season honors.
7. One Per Customer:Many all-star teams will
list players at multiple posi-tions. For the All-Football
Weekly team, each player islisted once. If a lineman is
named a 1st-team offensivelineman, he is not eligible to
be recognized as a 2nd-teamlinebacker. Jamestown QB
Jake Sisson is our Player of theYear and, therefore, is not eligi-
ble to be listed at a position.8. Attitude Counts: Players
that were guilty of poor sports-manship were downgraded. We
may not throw them off the team, but our best players do not taunt
opposing players or get into obscenescreaming matches with opposing
fans or get ejected for throwing apunch. The best know they are the
best and they act like it.9. Super Seniors, All-League Teams: Each
League in WNY submitted an All-League team as cho-sen by the coaches.
Also, each coach in Western New York was askedto nominate players for a category that we call SuperSeniors.
These are players that have given everything theyhave to their programs. These kids may not be all-stars, but they are all good kids who gave everythingthey possibly could for the betterment of their teams.
We wanted to salute them one final time... andthank them for putting on a great show for all of usfans out here.

By Mark AdairQadree Ollison broke away for an 86-yard TD run late in the
second quarter to give Canisius a 21-0 lead at the half and the
Crusaders beat St. Joe’s 41-7 to win the Msgr. Martin Association
title at Ralph Wilson Stadium.
“He saved his best game for last,” Canisius coach Roch
Robbins said. “It was the
championship game. It was
against St. Joe’s and it was
at the Ralph. What more
could you ask from a kid?
He saved his best game for
the last.”
Ollison finished the
night with 240 yards and 5
TDs on 20 carries as the
Crusaders won their second
straight title. ‘Q’ also made
a statement to any media
members or fans who
doubted him as he posted
lower numbers than he did
;ast season.
“He rushed for 1,800
yards last year,” Robbins
said. “He had 1,500 this
year and he had almost 100
less carries.”
Ollison was named the
Player of the Year by the
Football Weekly and was a
finalist for the Connolly
Cup. Many area fans
assumed Ollison would win
both awards in a walk this
season.
“I think everybody
thought he was going to
rush for 3,000 yards this sea-
son,” Robbins said. “But we
had an offensive line with 4
new starters. Everyone tried
to stop Q this year and he
never got frustrated. To do everything that he did, he had a better
season this year than last year.”
In the MMA title game, Ollison exploded in the first half as
he ran for 174 yards on just 10 carries. He scored TDs 6, 51 and
86 yards.
When the Marauders pulled within 21-7 Canisius responded
with a long drive capped when QB Jacob Loucks hit Ryan
Richards with a 28-yard TD pass. Ollison finished the scoring as
he rushed for TDs of 19 and 2 yards in the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter with Canisius safely ahead, Robbins
pulled Ollison from the game and gave him a prolonged hug as
the senior reached the sidelines.
“That was the last time he would play football for Canisius,”
Robbins said. “Every snap I have ever coached at Canisius,
Qadree has been there.I think the world of that kid. After the
game and the career he had, it was nice to share a moment on the
field at the Ralph with him.”
Canisius finished 9-2 on the season, losing only to Aquinas
(3-0) and Cardinal Mooney (9-7). Canisius did not allow a TD in
either game. Cardinal Mooney will play in the Ohio State semifi-
nals this week while Aquinas
will play for the NYS Class
AA championship on
Sunday.
“We lost two games by a
total of five points,” Robbins
said. “And, we may have
lost to the state champions of
two different states.”
The Crusaders’ starting
defense finally allowed a TD
for the first time this season
when St. Joe’s Nigel Davis
scored on a 2-yard run in the
third quarter. Davis finished
the night with 73 yards rush-
ing for St. Joe’s.
“Nigel made a hell of an
effort,” Robbins said. “He’s
a great player.”
Canisius allowed just 43
points this season while 8 of
11 opponents did not record
100 yards of total offense.
The Crusaders had six
shutouts among their nine
wins - and did not allow a
TD in the two losses.
Late in the game,
Robbins called time out and
called his defense into a hud-
dle. Before the time out
ended, Robbins replaced the
entire unit, allowing the
Canisius fans to applaud.
““I just wanted those kids
to get recognition for what
they did,” Robbins said. “They made up the baddest defense I
have ever seen in high school football. It was an amazing defense
and they had an amazing year. A lot of fans were clearning out
by then but I saw some parents standing and clapping.”
Robbins did say that he was frustrated by the apparent lack of
respect for his squad throughout the area.
“We had a lot of returning starters,” he said, “and I think
everyone expected us to go 11-0 again. I understand that any-
thing less than 11-0 would be seen as an unsuccessful season but
we had a pretty successful season. This senior class was 20-2.
Their body of work was pretty impressive.”

CTF’s vision is to develop the hearts of coaches andathletes to be men of character for others.
This Week in the ANSWER THE CALL process is theword Confidence.
The Simple ATC statement is JUST….BELIEVE!Confidence is having full belief and acting on it without
doubt! The Outcome is Faith overcomes Fear. As an athletesometimes you just have to trust with all your heart and notlean or depend on your own understanding.
It is having the mental attitude that all things are possiblefor those who believe. Our nation at one time had a confi-dence in God. This is evident on the dollar bill In “GOD WETRUST.”
Now we have a tendency to trust the money more. When
it comes to the game, one of the most confident personalitiesin the NFL is Peyton Manning. He says the reason you haveconfidence is because of how hard you have prepared andhow hard you have worked.
Also, perfect love destroys fear. This is an enormousstatement that says you will have your teammates backwhen he fails. When you do, they will play fast and not worryabout mistakes. When it comes to confidence a Man ofintegrity plays and lives confidently and securely. The reasonis simple, He is COMPLETE. Complete athletes play withconfidence and will always ANSWER THE CALL. Play Fastand when in doubt get out. Fight Finish and keep the Faith!
Strap it up and Get after it.

A Perfect 10By Mark Adair
Jamestown lost toAquinas 48-34 in the FarWest Regionals to endthe season at 10-1.
The loss did nothing todampen the season asthe Red Raiders won theschool’s first Section 6title since 2000.
Jamestown coach TomLangworthy says thatending the season with aloss to a private-schooldoes not leave him bitter.
“Aquinas is a reallygreat team,” he said, “Wehad three or four oppor-tunities to get the tie andwe didn’t do it. If we getto play them again, maybe we win. But wedon’t get to play themagain.”
The Raiders trailed41-34 in the fourth quar-ter. The Raiders inter-cepted a pass near mid-field but lost a fumble onthe return. Aquinasscored a few plays laterto cement the win.
“It was a great game,”Langworthy said. “TheAquinas kids and theircoaches were classy.”
Langworthy says thatthis fall has been enjoyable. More so than any seasonsince he took over the program five years ago.
“I’m so proud of our kids,” he said. “They work hard. There’s no drama and no egos. No one cares who getsthe credit. If you do things the right way, even if you lose, you can still be proud.”
One player who can be proud is senior QB JakeSisson, who passed for 299 yards and a TD in the loss.He finished his senior season with 3,170 passing yardsand 33 TD passes. He also rushed for 718 yards andscored 24 TDs.
Sisson also set the WNY Single Game passing recordwhen he threw for 508 yards in a win over Kenmore Westin Week 2. His 3,170 passing yards breaks Chad Kelly’s
record that was set justtwo years ago.
His team averagedover 52 points per game.
For all of that, Sissonwas named the Player ofthe Year by the FootballWeekly.
“Jake has been thebest player in WesternNew York, bar none,”Langworthy said. “Hehad an amazing season.I never thought I wouldbe a coach that passedmore than ran but whenyou have a QB like Jake, you’ve got to go with thetalent of the kids.”
Langworthy was actu-ally surprised to getSisson on his team.
Sisson had attendedthe nearby SouthwesternSchool District until hisfamily moved toArkansas before heentered the 8th grade.
“I do remember Jake,”Langworthy said. “Hewas a lightweightwrestler in the 8th grade.I would go to watch mybrother Patrick’swrestling matches, Jakewas also on the team.”
When the Sisson family moved to Arkansas,Langworthy didn’t think of Sisson again over the nextthree years. However, just over 16 months ago, the coachwas notified that a new player would be joining his team.
“The week before practice started, I got a call from myAthletic Director,” Langworthy said. “He told me thatGeorge Sisson was a finalist for a job opening inJamestown and that if he was hired, Jake would be join-ing our team.”
George Sisson was hired and Jake immediately cameto Jamestown, even ahead of his family.
“Jake’s father was hired for the job on a Friday,”Langworthy said. “Jake flew in to Jamestown on Sunday
Jamestown QB Jake Sisson passed for 3,170 yards and 33 TDsthis season. He also rushed for 718 yards and 24 TDs. Sisson wasnamed Player of the Year by the Football Weekly.

night and he made it to practice on Monday morning. Hestayed with his grandparents until his family was able toget settled.”
Langworthy still didn’t know the type of QB that had justdropped onto his roster.
“We didn’t know much about him,” he said, “but whenhe came to practice and started working we were able tosee that he was pretty talented.”
The transition was easy for Sisson, who didn’t evenhave to make new friends. He already knew many of theJamestown players from youth sports.
“A lot of our kids knew him through youth basketball,”Langworthy said. “Jake and Zack Panebianco had beenfriends for a few years. He got the respect of the teampretty quickly because the kids saw how hard he worked.”
Sisson had a good season in 2012 as Jamestownadvanced to the Class AA title game, which the Raiderslost to Orchard Park.
“Last year Jake was really solid,” Langworthy said. “Hewas a good player and one of our best players. But it wasn’tuntil we played our first game this year that I saw how head-and-shoulders he was over other high school players.”
When Jamestown led Niagara Falls 41-0 after the firstquarter of the opening week, Langworthy says his eyeswere opened. The following week, Sisson passed for 508yards passing in a win over Kenmore West.
“I just said, ‘Holy Cow.’” Langworthy said. “Not only ishe good but he might be the best player in Western NewYork. Turns out, he is.”
Langworthy says that Sisson, who is 6-0 and 190pounds, will probably not get many Division I-A scholarshipoffers because of his height.
“He already has a lot of Division III schools that areinterested,” Langworthy said. “I will also personally talk tosome D-2 coaches. Whoever lands him will be a happycoach. It doesn’t matter if he’s 6-5 or 5-9. What he can doion the football field has nothing to do with height. He is sotalented and so gifted.”
Sisson says he is proud of the Raiders’ season.“We had a very successful season,” Sisson said. “We
went 10-1 and won the Section 6 title. We got all of ourgoals except the last one. We wanted to win the states butwe had a season we can be very proud to look at.”
Sisson said that he did not know he had passed the3,000-yard mark or that he had broken Chad Kelly’s recordduring the loss to Aquinas.
“I wanted to win the game,” he said. “That’s all I’vethought about all year. These records would come in but Ijust wanted to win the game. The win-loss record is whatmatters.”
Sisson says he has been applying to colleges. Hobart,Alfred University, Washington & Jefferson, BethanyCollege (WV) and Allegany College (Pa.) have beenrecruiting him.
“I want in major in Architectural Engineering,” he said.“So, we’ll see which schools have the program I wantbefore I make any decisions.”

Friends in High PlacesBy Mark Adair
Depew coach BrianWilson and WilliamsvilleNorth coach MikeMammoliti have beennamed the Coaches ofthe Year by the FootballWeekly.
Both coaches led theirteams to improbable runsto a Section 6 title. Bothcoaches helped theirteams end long winningstreaks in Ralph WilsonStadium.
Both coaches have ledtheir teams to the NYSsemifinals after winning aFar West regional gamein Rochester.
Williamsville Northbeat Sweet Home at theRalph to end thePanthers 69-game win-ning streak against WNYopponents. It was theschool’s first Section 6title.
Depew upended Aldenat the Ralph to snap theBulldogs streak of 39wins against WNY teams.
In addition, bothMammoliti and Wilsonhad teams that were leftfor dead after two weeksof the season.
Williamsville North lost its’ first two games, includingone to crosstown rival Williamsville South, to start theseason 0-2. No one had the Spartans on any “con-tenders” list for anything other than a matchup game atthe end of the season.
Depew lost starting QB Anthony Buono when he suf-fered a broken collarbone in Week 2. The Wildcats lost28-7 to defending champion Alden in Week 4 and thenlost leading rusher, scorer and tackler Rodney Turner inWeek 7... a 36-0 loss to arch-rival Lancaster.
“It’s been a season of ups and downs,” Wilson said. “Itwas heartbreaking to lose Anthony Buono when we did. He’s a tremendous kid and a tremendous competitor. Weexpected him to have a great season.”
Sophomore DylanSekuterski stepped in forBuono.
“Dylan stepped in anddid a tremendous job,”Wilson said. “We dealtwith a lot of differentinjuries. That stuff hap-pens. We also had kidsstep up and play well.”
Mammoliti says thatwhen his team started 0-2,he was frustrated but didnot panic.
“I thought we had ourchances in both games,”he said. “We just madetoo many mistakes thatcost us the games.”
The similaritiesbetween the teams arestriking. And when youconsider how far backthe friendship betweenthe coaches stretches, itgets eerie.
Mammoliti and Wilsonwere teammates on theUniversity at BuffaloDivision III teams from1979 until 1982. Theywere roommates whilethey were in college andstayed roommates forfive years after graduat-ing.
“We were college roommates and have been greatfriends ever since,” Wilson said. “I can’t think of anybodybetter to share this with.”
But while Wilson is happy to share the award,Mammoliti is uncomfortable being named Coach of theYear.
“I never think about putting myself in the same catego-ry as Brian Wilson,” Mammoliti said. “People don’t under-stand how good of a coach he is. He’s a college levelcoach here in high school.”
The pair met after Wilson returned home from BowlingGreen to attend UB.

football,” Mammoliti said. “We met during that first offsea-son that he was back. He asked me to come train at hisparents house in Orchard Park.”
When Mammoliti arrived at the Wilson’s home, a hugesurprise was waiting for him.
“Brian grew up across the street from Ralph WilsonStadium,” Mammoliti said. “They had a whole gym set upin the basement. The first time I went there to work out, Imet Craig Wolfley of the Steelers, Ron Wolfley, who playedwith St. Louis, Jim Burt of the Giants and Larry Pfohl, whobecame the pro wrestler Lex Luger.”
Even in 1979, those were pretty big names in WNY.“I didn’t think I was in the right place,” Mammoliti said.
“They were all great guys. I learned a lot of lessons downin that basement.”
Wilson and Mammoliti remained friends, despite a dif-ference in living styles.
“We were like Oscar and Felix,” Wilson said. “Mike is aneat freak and I can be, well... not so neat. It worked out inmy favor, though. He kept things picked up pretty nice.”
Mammoliti admits that he was a bit more ordered.“I was a bit uptight,” he said, “but Brian’s college
wardrobe consisted of whatever sweat pants he picked upoff the floor that morning.”
The coaches bring their teams together every summerto participate in the Be The Best Camp at Depew HighSchool.
They remain in contact year round and have been fol-lowing each other throughout these playoffs.
Since this was Mammoliti’s first trip to the Ralph, heasked Wilson for advice on how to handle things.
“I was torn,” Wilson said. “Mike is a great friend of minebut my son was playing for Sweet Home. He sent me atext asking ‘Any advice.’ I sent one back that said, ‘Justwin baby.’ He laughed about it.”
Mammoliti says he was expecting a little more.“All those years we’ve been friends and that’s the
advice I get?” the Spartans coached asked. The pair have continued to text throughout the state
playoffs. After beating Eastridge on Friday night, Mammolitisent Wilson a text that read, ‘Now it’s your turn.’”
When Depew followed up with a win on Saturday,Wilson sent one back that read simply, ‘Joining you inRochester next week.’”
And so, as the two friends get ready to play a NYSsemifinal game with a trip to the Carrier Dome on the line, they have practiced together at Depew High School.
“Brian’s got the turf there,” Mammoliti said, “so we havebeen going over a couple of days a week to practice withthem.”
There has been no talk of rooming together again...however...
“Maybe we can be roommates again in Rochester,”Mammoliti said with a laugh. “Hopefully, we can room inSyracuse in a couple of weeks.”
Update: Williamsville North will play in the NYS titlegame in the Carrier Dome. Depew lost to Maine-Endwell.

It’s not the critic who counts.
Not the man who points out wherethe strong man stumbled or wherethe doer of deeds could have donethem better.
The credit belongs to the man marred by the dust and the sweat and the blood;
who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again and again...
...who at best knows,in the end, the triumphof high achievements and who, at the worst, if he fails at least fails while daring greatly,
so that his place will never be with those cold timid souls who know neither victory or defeat.
- Theodore Roosevelt
