Professional Biography (Lorrie)
• 25+ years' experience in the K-12 technology field
• Technology Coordinator at Circleville City Schools for nine years
• Worked with the federal E-Rate program from its inception in 1998
• Currently serving Ohio State E-Rate Coordinator with the Ohio Department of Education
• As the State E-Rate Coordinator, I provide assistance to both schools and public libraries throughout the state to help insure they are meeting the many requirements of the program.
Ohio’s Story
• The Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) requires school’s receiving federal E-Rate funding to provide for the education of minors to include:
– Appropriate online behavior, including interacting with other individuals on social networking sites
– Cyberbullying awareness and response.
• We surveyed our schools to ask how we could help
Based on the Survey
• Over 300 districts responded
• 100% asked that we provide curriculum, feeling a statewide implementation would be a better approach
• We released an RFP with requirements that included:
– Curriculum for grades K-12
– Easy to use
– A reporting system
– Anywhere access
– Professional Development

Interactive Activities Reinforce Concepts
• Each Lesson features interactive task-based activities to reinforce student understanding of lesson concepts.
• Students are provided assistive prompts to guide them in completing each task-based activity
Final Quiz Checks for Understanding
• After completing the three lessons, students take a short quiz to check for understanding of topics
• If a student does not successfully pass the quiz with an 80% score, they are prompted to retake it and to go back to review the lessons if students need help
