After-School Fun Awaits!Extracurricular activities are an integral part of life at British International School of Chicago. Secondary students benefit from varied clubs that promote sportsmanship, creativity, community and competition. Clubs are offered before and after school, and students can participate in one club per period each day.

When: Clubs are scheduled from 7:45 – 8:30 a.m. (unless otherwise noted) and 3:40 – 4:50 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Where: All clubs take place on campus.

Cost: There is no charge for Secondary clubs.

Clubs A - G

Art Support (All Secondary) Receive specialist academic support and participate in consolidation and STEAM-based activities. You may attend as needed; a sign-up sheet will be available each week.

Battle of the Bard (All Secondary) You’ll work on scenes and speeches from Shakespeare plays and learn performance techniques, developing your skills to compete against other Chicago schools. Last year, our team reached the finals at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater!

Biology Structured Support (All Secondary) Receive specialist academic support and participate in consolidation activities. These sessions follow a support curriculum, covering different topics each week. You may attend as needed; please review the curriculum in Managebac and plan accordingly.

Brass Booster (All Secondary)Improve your skills at this booster session for all Secondary students. You may attend as needed; a sign-up sheet will be available each week.

Build Your Own PC (All Secondary) Let’s create a PC from scratch! Learning to build your own system not only helps save money, but ensures your computer system has everything you need.

Business Enterprise (Years 12 - 13) Here’s your chance to start your own business! Learn what it takes and start your path in entrepreneurship.

Business Investment (Years 10 - 11)You’ll invest capital into an investment portfolio that you’ll manage throughout the year.

Business Support (Years 10 - 13)Receive specialist academic support and participate in consolidation activities. You may attend as needed; a sign-up sheet will be available each week.

Chemistry & Physics Structured Support (All Secondary) Receive specialist academic support and participate in consolidation activities. These sessions follow a support curriculum, covering different topics each week. You may attend as needed; please review the curriculum in Managebac and plan accordingly.

Debate (Years 7 - 9) Debate is a brilliant way to develop teamwork, research and interpersonal skills. Debate club is part of Nord Anglia Education’s Global Campus program, and a winning team is selected each round. There are three rounds per year with teams split into middle school and high school. In between rounds, the club runs practice debates to develop sharp debate skills.

Design & Technology Support (All Secondary) Receive specialist academic support and participate in consolidation and STEAM-based activities. You may attend as needed; a sign-up sheet will be available each week.

Drama (Years 7 - 9) Do you love drama and acting? Work on a range of small pieces that focus on various drama skills and perform at school events. This club is an excellent addition to the school musical.

English Support (All Secondary) Receive specialist academic support and participate in consolidation activities. You may attend as needed; a sign-up sheet will be available each week.

Clubs H - M

ICTM Preparation Sign up to prepare for competitions through the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) and American Mathematics Competitions (AMC).

Languages Cultural (Years 7 - 9) Take part in fun language-based activities and learn about different cultures and world languages in this new club.

Legos (All Secondary) The Autumn term Lego Club will prepare you for the First Lego League (FLL) competition, held in late November or early December. You’ll explore the fascinating world of trash by designing a robot and presenting your completed project to an audience prior to the competition. Our team will be decided via application at the start of the term.

Literacy & Numeracy Support (All Secondary) Receive individual and group learning support. Attendance is by invitation.

Math Counts Competition (Years 7 - 9) You’ll prepare for the Math Counts competition in February 2016. All students can participate in this club, but a select number will be chosen to represent BISC in the competition. Selection is based on your scores and attendance.

Math Support (All Secondary) Receive specialist academic support and participate in consolidation activities. You may attend as needed; a sign-up sheet will be available each week.

Media & Film Support (Years 10 - 13) Receive specialist academic support and participate in consolidation activities. You may attend as needed; a sign-up sheet will be available each week.

Model UN (Years 10 - 13) This authentic simulation of the United Nations will introduce you to the world of diplomacy and negotiation.

Modern Foreign Languages Magazine (Years 10 - 13) This club is an exciting new opportunity to be part of the committee producing the school’s language publication. You’ll collaborate with students from other year groups to write, edit and produce content in a range of languages for an online magazine with worldwide Nord Anglia readership.

Clubs N - Z

National Honor Society (Years 10 - 13) Students who have been inducted into the National Honor Society (NHS) are required by NHS to attend weekly chapter meetings, unless absences are approved in advance.

National Junior Honor Society (Years 7 - 9) Students who have been inducted in to the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) are required by NJHS to attend weekly chapter meetings, unless absences are approved in advance.

Physics Structured Support (All Secondary)Receive specialist academic support and participate in consolidation activities. These sessions follow a support curriculum, covering different topics covered each week. You may attend as needed; please review the curriculum in Managebac and plan accordingly.

Science Olympiad Division B (Years 7 - 9) Following the success of last year’s Science Olympiad team, we will be kicking off our division for middle school students on Mondays. Be sure to sign up and attend during the first few weeks of school, as team members are selected and there is competition for spots.

Science Olympiad Division C (Years 10 - 11) Following the success of last year’s Science Olympiad team, we will be kicking off our division for high school students on Tuesdays. Studio (Years 7 - 11) Learn how to use studio equipment to record and edit sound through a range of projects. This club will take place during Autumn Term only, and space is limited to 10 students.

Vertical Symphony (All Secondary) If you’re approximately grade four or above on your instrument, this is the orchestra for you! If you have any questions, please email Music Director Rachel-White Hunt at [email protected].

West Side Story Rehearsals (Years 7 - 12) Auditions for this year’s musical, West Side Story, will take place in September and cast rehearsals will start in October. (More details about auditions will be available during the first week of school.) The school musical is a year-long commitment that offers a variety of ways to get involved, from acting to crew and administration. You’ll be part of a team that develops a full-scale musical, an amazing experience. If you have the passion and commitment, join us! Participants are required to attend all rehearsals, before and after school.

First Autumn Half-Term 2015Sports clubs for the first Autumn Half-Term begin Monday, August 31 and continue through Friday, October 16. Match schedules are pending notification from our sports league. All students who are committed are welcome to join and ex-pected to attend every practice club, before and after school, as well as matches.
