2 Summarize the text in ten lines

This text is about the Restoration Monarchy and its constitution of 1876. The king

Alfonso XII accepted this constitution. A new policy was created by the leader of the

Conservative party, Cnovas del Castillo, and the leader of the Liberal party, Prxedes

Mateo Sagasta, where Progressives, repentant Democrats and Republicans were allowed

to govern in an alternative way with the Conservatives. This was called the turno

pacfico. Spain was one of the most democratic polities of Europe but only on paper. Infact, there was an institutionalized electoral corruption that is known by caciquismo.

This is why FranciscoSilvela deserted Cnovas and the Conservative party split up. This

corruption played in favour of the king who played a moderator roll but when the two-

party system fragmented, he became a power-broker.
