MONTHLY PRAYER INTENTION That the example of the Holy Family may inspire all
families of our Diocese to lives of deeper prayer and
holiness.
FROM THE DESK OF DEACON KIELTYKA
On January 20th, I will join 8 other men on a two week mission trip to the Dominican Republic. We are traveling to
the town of Elías Piña. Our objective is to build a chapel, similar to the one in the photo, in a local village near Elias Pina.
This group of men, comprised mostly of Deacons from the Diocese, travels annually to the Dominican Republic to build a
chapel. Many of the old wood-structure chapels are no longer usable. The newer block chapels provide a sustainable space
for Mass, sacraments and for religious education in the remote village.
The Green Bay Diocese has operated a mission in the Dominican Republic for over 52 years. Fr. Michael Seis, a
Green Bay Diocesan priest, is the pastor of two parishes; Santa Teresa in the province of Elías Piña on the Haiti-Dominican
Republic border and San Ysidro in El Llano. Fr. Seis, has served in the Dominican Republic for more than 19 years. He
ministers to an estimated 100,000 people in 90 settlements throughout the province. There is a set schedule for these remote
settlements. A majority of these villages will celebrate one Mass each month. Many times, the mass will include baptisms
and other sacraments.
I would ask for you to remember these brothers and sisters in Christ in your prayers. We are all one, holy, catholic
and apostolic church. Please pray for Fr. Seis, the mission as well as the groups’ health and safety. My mission trip was
shortened in 2014 due to a medical emergency. Peace and blessings Dcn. Conrad
The 2016 Spring 40 Days for Life campaign begins on Ash
Wednesday. Join other members of St. Francis Xavier
Cathedral to peacefully pray in the public right-of-way
outside Planned Parenthood at 2605 S. Oneida Street in
Ashwaubenon. on Fridays 4pm - 6pm (February 12
through March18). The 40 Days for Life campaign
strives to access God’s power through prayer, fasting, and
peaceful vigil for conversion, healing, and the end of
abortion. For information or if you would like to take part
in, contact Vonda at 371-0839 or visit 40daysforlife.com.
BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY St. Francis Xavier Cathedral has a Bereavement Ministry
program available to provide support and comfort to
parishioners who are grieving the death of a loved one.
Contact Kathy at 497-8060 if you would like help from this
ministry.
ST. VINCENT DE PAUL

de Paul is hosting an orientation for those who signed up
on Stewardship weekend. For your convenience we are
offering two sessions. Please plan on attending one of these
informative meetings. They are Saturday, January 23rd or
Saturday February 20th in the Bishop Wycislo Center at
2:30 pm. Other parishioners who are interested in finding
out what Vincentians do are invited to attend as well. In
this Year of Mercy, let us be merciful to those in need.

PRAYER CORNER "“Never forget that it is at the beginning of each day
that God has the necessary grace
for the day ready for us.
He knows exactly what opportunities
we shall have to sin,
and will give us everything we need
if we ask him then.
That is why the devil does all he can to prevent us
from saying our morning prayers
or to make us say them badly."“
~St. John Vianney
What is the first thing you do in the morning when you
wake up? Flip on the news? Check your phone for
messages? Stumble straight to the shower? Make sure
those first moments are given to God, no one else; He
has so much to give back to you!
USHERS NEEDED! Since our recent stewardship drive, several ushers decided
to step down. We cannot thank them enough for their years
of dedication! There will now be 4 ushers per Mass. It is
our desire that each usher only usher once a month. In order
for this to happen we are in need of 8 more ushers for Satur-
day evenings at 4 pm and 5 for Sundays at 9 am. Can you
make a once a month commitment to help your parish by
becoming an usher? If so call the office at 432-4348.
MASS OF THE
ANOINTING OF THE SICK Mass of the Anointing of the sick will be held at Saint John

HOLY HOUR Join us for “Teach My People to Pray”

St. John on Thursday, January 21st from

CORPORAL WORK OF MERCY
“CLOTHE THE NAKED” The corporal work of mercy, “clothe the naked,” seems rather
straightforward. One would think that it simply means to give
clothes to someone who doesn’t have any. While that certainly is
an aspect of this work of mercy, it does not paint the whole
picture. Jesus challenges us to be much more active when he said
to the sheep on his right, “[I was] naked, and you covered
me” (Matthew 25:36). Jesus (and the Church) ask us to “clothe”
the naked and not simply drop-off our excess wardrobe at a
St. Vincent de Paul thrift store (which is good to do). God wants
us to be active in our works of mercy and to touch the lives of
individual people. One of the most famous modern-day examples
who “clothed” the naked was Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta.
Each morning she would go out into the streets to find men and
women too sick to care for themselves. After carrying them back
to the hospice, Mother Teresa would bathe, clothe and feed them.
She believed everyone deserves to be treated with great dignity
and actively helped the poor in her community for the rest of her
life. However, not all of us are called to minister to the needs of
the homeless in Calcutta. That is why Mother Teresa would often
say, “Stay where you are. Find your own Calcutta. Find the sick,
the suffering and the lonely right there where you are — in your
own homes and in your own families, in your workplaces and in
your schools. You can find Calcutta all over the world, if you
have the eyes to see. Everywhere, wherever you go, you find
people who are unwanted, unloved, uncared for, just rejected by
society — completely forgotten, completely left alone.” When we
search out the “naked” of our local community, we shouldn’t only
be looking for those without clothes. We should also look for
those who are rejected, alone, and forgotten. They too are
“naked,” without friends or family, stripped of all meaningful
human relationships. They are like the man in the parable of the
“Good Samaritan.” He was not only stripped of his clothes,
beaten and left for dead, but also completely alone. Numerous
people passed him by and no one extended a hand. He was treated
like he was invisible. There are numerous people in our
community (and sometimes our own family), who are “left for
dead” and are stripped of everything in their lives. They often feel
invisible and think that no one cares about them. It is our duty as
Christians to comfort, console and “clothe” them. We may not
have to give them actual clothes, but we certainly can give them
our love, time and presence. The key attribute of the “Good
Samaritan” is that he went above and beyond what was necessary,
putting the man on his own donkey and taking the time to nurse
him back to health. We are challenged to be charitable beyond our
comfort zone and to take an active part in restoring someone to
their dignity as a human person. Let us ask for Blessed Mother
Teresa’s intercession as we go forth into the world to be
missionaries of Jesus’ mercy.
