The people there have a living sense of the Holy as they live in a place so steeped with ‘holiness’ and respectful of the traditions. The term also recognizes something communal about the priesthood, that the priest is ordained by Jesus Christ for all people, hence the ‘Our.’ When I arrived back and walked into the school, into a loud multipurpose room of several classes of kids, one saw and cried out, “Everybody! When it comes to priesthood, it is a spiritual fatherhood in which we as priests are something other than biological fathers and not temporal, of this world. It is a timeless and placeless fatherhood. One that is united and fostered with a person, the Eternal Word Jesus Christ crucified. There has been a struggle in being newly ordained, or a young person in general as it pertains to priesthood. TUESDAYS WITH MAUREEN

Senior citizens often report they find themselves wishing they had somewhere to go or something to do. St. Mary Parish Life Commission, working with Assumption Parish, is offering a solution to “I wish I had something to do.”

On Tuesday mornings every week from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Tuite Hall, Assumption Parish, will be open and available to our seniors to play cards, watch movies, visit with their peers, just hang out. Maureen Irby, the secretary at Assumption Church, will be in her office, but she will only be available in emergencies. (Maureen will be working on her own job duties.) Members of St. Mary Parish Life Commission will be available the first few Tuesdays, but the hope is the seniors will take ownership of the activity and make their own decisions on what they would like to do and see. Please come out and join in the fun!

Jesus: The Way, the Truth, and the Life Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Vidalia is now offering a Lenten program entitled Jesus: The Way, the Truth, and the Life immediately after the 5:30 p.m. Mass on Wednesdays. It is a 10 week study program. Anchored in the life of Christ as presented in the Gospels, this study explores the entirety of Jesus'

life---who he is, what he is really like, what he taught, what he did for our salvation, and what all of this means for us as Catholics today. Presented by Dr. Marcellino D'Ambrosia, Jeff Cavins, and Dr. Edward Sri, this study was filmed in the Holy Land so Catholics can experience the extraordinary world in which Jesus lived and taught---the historical content, the politics, the clashing cultures, the history, and the ancient land---and see where the most significant events of his life took place, from his infancy to his Ascension. The cost of the book and the workbook is $30.00. Those needing more info can contact Our Lady of Lourdes at 318-364-5450. The program began Wednesday, March 4, but it is not too late to join this study.

CROSSES AVAILABLE FOR EASTER! Walter Maier has made 43 crosses from the wood of the old pinnacles of St. Mary Basilica. A few years ago, he made over 100 crosses from this wood, but they have long since been sold. After many requests to make more of these crosses, Mr. Maier used the last of the old wood from the Basilica pinnacles and made the 43 crosses. Beginning next week, these crosses will be available for purchase from the offices of St. Mary Basilica and Assumption Church and at the Wednesday Night Dinners in the FLC. The cost remains at $30 per cross. These crosses make beautiful Easter gifts, RCIA gifts, Confirmation gifts, house warming gifts, etc. Get yours before they sell out—unfortunately, there will not be anymore.

A NOTE FROM FATHER SCOTT

Last weekend, the diocese sent out the following message: “Until further notice, Bishop Joseph Kopacz asks all parishes… and schools to discontinue distribution of the Precious Blood from the chalice to the congregation at all Masses… due to concerns over the ongoing flu season and uncertainty over the spread of the Corona Virus that is starting to show up in this country.” Therefore, Holy Communion will only be offered under the one species of the Sacred Host at every Holy Mass, including funerals and weddings. Remember, though, that you will still be receiving the same amount of Jesus—Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity—through Holy Communion even if you cannot receive from the chalice, too. If there is anyone who is allergic to wheat, though, please contact me so that we can work something out for you to continue receiving our Lord in Holy Communion. Whether or not to receive on the tongue is your decision. As far as holding hands during the “Our Father” and shaking hands during the Sign of Peace, you are never required to do so. The Church Herself has never said you have to do those specific actions. If you don’t want to hold or shake someone else’s hand, then you don’t have to. And if someone refuses to touch you, don’t get offended. Rather, just say “Peace” and live your best life. Most importantly, go to Confession and meditate often on the sufferings of Jesus. That way, if and when you do get sick, you’ll be prepared. Happy Lent!

LENT

BROWN BAG PRAYER

On all the Wednesdays of Lent, parishioners and friends are invited to bring their lunch at 12:05 p.m. to the Youth Wing of the O’Connor Family Life Center for a time of prayer for ourselves, our church, and our world. The Prayer Cenacle will be led by a number of parishioners who were inspired by the recent presentation given at St. Mary Basilica by Patricia Talbot, a Marian missionary. Participants will say the Rosary and have a brief period of Lectio Divina (praying Scripture). Please consider joining us for this Lenten devotion.

A LENTEN SOMETHING FOR ALL PARISHIONERS

The season of Lent (40 days) began Wednesday, February 26, Ash Wednesday, and will continue until the Thursday before Easter. The number forty (40 days) in the Bible designates a time of preparation. Therefore, Lent is a time of preparation for the Church’s great feast – Easter Sunday.

An invitation is extended to every parish member to avail of some/all of the following:

1. Daily Mass 8:00 am at St. Mary Monday-Saturday. 2. Stations of the Cross at 12:05 pm and 5:15 pm on

Fridays at St. Mary and 5:30 pm at Assumption. 3. The KC fish fry is served after the 5:15 pm

Stations of the Cross each Friday of Lent (not on Good Friday) in the O’Connor Family Life Center.

4. Read and reflect upon the thoughts in the Little Black Book. 5. Abstinence from meat on all the Fridays of Lent. 6. Lenten fast on Good Friday for all Catholics 18-59

years of age (Suggested for everyone regardless of age!)

7. Spend 15-30 minutes at Adoration on Mondays at St. Mary and/or attend Benediction at 5:20 pm

8. Select a personal form of penance and prayer. 9. Make a weekly donation to St. Mary or Assumption

for the needy of this community. 10. Help your neighbor or an elderly parishioner and

grow in charity. 11. Do a random act of kindness for a stranger.
