SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT MARCH 17, 2019

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom should I fear?— Psalm 27:1

Second Sunday in Lent Read: Today’s Gospel shares the story of the Transfiguration of the Lord. Reflect: “The Transfiguration reminds us that the joys sown by God in life are not finishing lines; rather they are the lights he gives us during our earthly pilgrimage in order that “Jesus alone” may be our Law and his word the criterion that directs our exist-ence.” (Pope Benedict XVI, Angelus, February 28, 2010) Pray: Pray for strength today to continue your Lenten promises and fasting with this prayer: God of all people,

You walk with us on our life’s journey. You know our joys and struggles.

You know us better than we know ourselves.

This Lenten season, may we too learn to walk with others.

Through prayer, fasting and almsgiving, may we encounter you in our neighbors in need and live

your call to serve our human family.

Amen

Act: It’s the second Sunday of Lent, but there are three more to go. Rededicate yourself to your Lenten promises today and enter the week ready to tackle what’s ahead.

STAND FIRM IN THE LORD It is not hard to imagine, in this age of wars, evil groups bent on the destruction of humanity, and political follies, that the words of Saint Paul were so accurate, even for his time. It seems that the world nev-er changes. Paul says, “Many . . . conduct themselves as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is their destruction . . . Their minds are occupied with earthly things” (Philippians 3:18, 19). The result is the destruction of innocent people and of the Earth itself. But Paul says to the Philippians, “our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we also await a savior, the Lord Jesus Christ” (3:20). He will “change our low-ly body to conform with his glorified body” (3:21). Note that he says “body” rather than “bodies.” He is talking about the whole communi-ty of believers, who, following the example of Jesus and of Paul, will come into the glory of God. So “stand firm in the Lord” (4:1). TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — The Lord made a covenant with Abram (Genesis 15:5-12, 17-18) Psalm — The Lord is my light and my salvation (Psalm 27). Second Reading — Our citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:17 — 4:1 [3:20 — 4:1]). Gospel — Atop a mountain, Jesus was transfigured before Peter, James, and John (Luke 9:28b-36).

The Knights of Columbus are a group founded on the principal of charity by men of faith. Our main goals are to support our church and those in need. Our regular meetings are the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm in the parish offices. We invite you to join us. We need your help in becoming a thriving counsel, active in supporting the many great goals of the Knights of Columbus. Anyone with questions about the Knights, please contact Revard Pfeffer 903-985-3150 or Mike Conner 903-986-1057.
