HEALTH AND WELLNESS FORUM AT PENRO AGUSAN DEL NORTE

Better health is vital to human happiness

and well-being. It also makes an important

contribution to economic progress as healthy

populations live longer and more productive.

In line with this PENRO Olivera personally

conducted a Health and Wellness Forum to give

awareness on our health aspects, on May 11, 2015

in by PENRO office, CENRO Tubay on May 18, 2015

and on May 25, 2015 at CENRO Nasipit.

The Major topic discussed was on cellular

nutrition for our good health. In order for our

personnel to be aware on health problems

nowadays, statistics on different illnesses were

shared to the personnel. It was mentioned that an

estimated 115 million of the people will develop

serious medical conditions including diabetes,

heart disease, stroke, etc. It was also cited that

these illnesses are the leading causes of premature

death in the world and even in the Philippines to

include cancer, heart attack, hypertension,

diabetes, etc.

Demonstration of proper nutrition is also

conducted during the activity. It was

highlighted during the forum and demo that

good health start with cellular nutrition in which

can be learned by practical knowledge and

simple nutrition guide – such as eat plenty of

fruits and vegetables and drink 8 to 12 glasses

of water.

Some tips to stay healthy with Cellular Nutrition were also discussed. Accordingly

there are 10 commandments to maintain good health, as follows:

1. Stay active

Physical activity is like an accelerator. It speeds up metabolism, blood flow, peristalsis

and increases the supply of oxygen, vitamins, minerals and trace elements. It even

cleanses the body because it sweats toxins out of it.

2. Eat natural foods

There’s no greater love than the love of eating. But as we all know love can be blind…

As a result we eat what we like instead of the food that nourishes us. And we’re

surprised we’re unwell. What is the best food then? The one closest to nature (not

processed).

3. Get a rest

Life needs balance. If there’s stress, there needs to be relaxation. If there’s tiredness,

there must be a rest

4. Be a good person

If you’re good to one person, you’re good to the whole mankind. Nature has seen to it

that good people live longer. If you do something good, you feel good. It’s all because

of oxytocin. This is a hormone improving health: it controls blood pressure, alleviates

stress and boosts immune system. Sounds strange? Perhaps it does but be a good

person and you’ll live longer.

5. Put your health first

Thoughts trigger emotions, emotions generate actions and actions create our lives. To

cut yourself off from disease, you need to create a mental relationship with your health.

6. Have regular check-ups

They say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Regular check-ups (blood

pressure, cholesterol levels, weight, teeth, blood, urine) ensure that nothing will surprise

you. And even if something is wrong, you’ll have more time to take action.

7. Improve your posture

A spine is like scaffolding. If it wobbles, the entire body is affected. Why? The spinal cord

and the spinal nerves are all attached. As a result damage to the main nerve means

damage to the entire body. Proper posture ensures that there is no pressure on the

nerves and they can’t be damaged.

8. Get in touch with nature

Go outside and do whatever you like to enjoy nature, e.g. lie in a hammock tied

between apple trees, lie on the grass and look up at the blue sky, sit on a terrace and

listen to the birds singing. Nature has this special something that makes us look at the

bright side.

9. Live for today

People worry over the past which is gone and think about the future which isn’t here

yet. In other words, they fantasize. But real life is now. Yes, it sounds esoteric but that’s

the way it is. The joy of life doesn’t exist in the past or the future. The joy of life is here

and now.

10. And the most important thing

Cleanse your body. If you drink fiber and herbs with water regularly, you'll naturally

remove residual build-ups and toxins from your body. You'll forget what it means to be

sick or to suffer from headaches, constipation and indigestion. Moreover, these fibers

and herbs in tablet form will protect your body against the colon cancer. Good deal,

isn't it?

Family Day

It has been a practice of the office to

celebrate Family Day every month to

unwind and to relieve stress of work once

in a while and at the same time another

way to bond officemates and create

camaraderie.

The Family Day is celebrated

separately with the three offices PENRO

and the two CENROs Nasipit and Tubay

depending in the availability of the

schedule set for the activity.

On May 22, 2015 the PENRO

personnel conducted a mangrove tree

planting activity in Carmen, Agusan del

Norte with the DPWH personnel. After the

tree planting was the Family Day in Bolihon

Beach Resort, the day was fun because a

various games were being played

including Buko relay, Tag of war, sack

race, etc. and of course the unlimited

food served and the swimming the entire

day.

While CENRO Tubay also held a Family Day as a way of rewarding

individual’s achievements or the entire office accomplishments in every

employee as member of the working force. Also Birthdays of the celebrants of

May were also celebrated during that day and food festivity and other

recreational activities is the usual practice of the CENRO Tubay family day.

Seedlings produce by such Peoples Organization (PO) like Falcata gave an

economic value to alleviate quality of living and food security if tree farmers take good

care of the seedlings planted from their individual area. Seedlings procurement such as

Fruit trees, Cacao and Rubber not only gave economic importance but environmental

value because sooner or later during harvesting period it will not be cut/slash but only its

fruits and latex will be extract.

Anent hereto, financial assistance given by the department in every seedling

produced, can sustain their daily needs in a period of time. Likewise, group/organization

well established and build up their association.

NGP is now on five years of implementation various seedlings species were

produced and accomplished such as fruit bearing trees, Dipterocarp /indigenous

species, fast growing species and other species that gave environmental and economic

value. Consequently, POs have been train on the strategies on how to grow seeds

through applying different techniques as assisted by EOs and PTAs.

the spot inspection of WPPs within our jurisdiction as follows:

May 8, 2015 – Monitored Bit-os AILTF Checkpoints and no towing of illegal forest

products detected during the period of first week of May 2015. Even the status of

Agusan River as regards to the route of transport of forest products was decreased

accordingly during the period. Below are the photos taken during the monitoring.

May 8, 2015 – Baan Monitoring Service Station was also visited and monitored as

regards to the detection of any illegal logs arriving in their area of jurisdiction during the

week, they did not detect any illegal logs. Team leader Mr. Efren Sabuero also

mentioned that the NBI personnel was also joined during the inspection of WPPs under

their jurisdiction during the week and they found nothing illegal logs stocks in different

WPPs visited. Only planted trees were monitored stock in WPPs compound. The

undersigned advised them to continuously monitored all WPPs establishment under their

jurisdiction and likewise to include all those operating without necessary permit and

advised them to apply for necessary permit to legalize their operation.

Unfortunately on the eve of May 11, 2015, it was attacked and burned by

undetermined number of armed men bearing EK 47 firearms. A separate report of the

incident was already submitted under my Memorandum dated May 12, 2015.

Per our information gathering of the incident, the burning is somewhat related to

our strict campaign on illegal logging especially that

we are now aiming for zero illegal logging by June

30, 2015. This is one of the reasons why the incident

happened. Other incidents during that date such as

attacked and harassed of PNP detachment and

burning of contractors equipment all of Las Nieves,

Agusan Del Norte are all accordingly including in

the plan of armed group per unconfirmed

information. During the burning incident of our check

point, the armed men interrogated our trustee in the

checkpoint and asking for the PNP on duty in our checkpoint. After confirming no PNP

was on duty in our check point, the armed men requested to remove personal things

therein and put our check point on fire.

May 12, 2015 – Another monitoring and inspection was conducted on Bit-os AILTF

check point and talked to team leader FR. Jasis. I warmed them to be vigilant

especially on the suspected looking men in order to be aware of what happened to

Mat-i AILTF check point. Accordingly no detection of illegal logs up to the time of

monitoring. Below are the geotagged photos during the inspection and monitoring. Our

frequent monitoring and inspections of the AILTF check point is part of our strategy to be

visible and to attain zero illegal logging by June 2015 and thereby as early as possible to

deter illegal activities.

BIODIVERSITY MONITORING SYSTEM (BMS) TRAINING AND BMS SITE

ESTABLISHMENT BARANGAY PUTING BATO, CABADBARAN CITY, AGUSAN DEL NORTE

Biodiversity in a protected area encompasses thousands of life-forms, many of them not even named and described, yet the resources and people available to manage and monitor biodiversity are limited. Protected area had been established to conserve samut-saring buhay or biodiversity. The biodiversity monitoring system is a minimum starting point, which we hope will further evolved overtime and methods developed are a compromise between the financial resources available for monitoring purposes and the aim of ensuring that no major change in a protected area’s biodiversity can go a detected. It aims to improve the information available for the decision-makers in protected areas through the regular collecting of data on natural biological resources and their utilization. The focus is on identifying trends in biodiversity and its use so as to guide action in protected area management.

In addition, the BMS is to improve the participation of protected area communities
