Congratulations on your decision to marry! The office of Family Ministry has developed this checklist to ensure your preparation for the Sacrament of Marriage in the Catholic Church is as meaningful as it can be. God bless your engagement and marriage preparation process.

q Before calling to schedule your wedding at a parish, if your prior marriage has not been dissolved through death or you have not received a Document of Freedom to Marry, please contact

the Tribunal Office at the Diocese of Bismarck, 701-204-7203.

q In the case of civil divorce, you will need to provide a divorce decree and procure a declaration of nullity from the Diocesan Tribunal, establishing freedom to marry.

q If extra counseling is required by the Tribunal, as part of your annulment, we ask you to get started with that as soon into your engagement as possible.

q Take a pre-marital inventory. Following, meet with priest, deacon, or sponsor couple to discuss the results of the pre-marital inventory (approximately 4 meetings).

q Attend the Diocese of Bismarck Second Marriage or Pre-Marriage Seminar. Second Marriage dates are found on this brochure, but Pre-Marriage dates are on our website, bismarckdiocese.com

q Attend a full course of Natural Family Planning (NFP)

q Meet with parish preist/deacon to complete the necessary pre-nuptial paperwork.
