Dear Colleagues, friends and exhibitorsIt is a great pleasure and privilege to invite you to attend the 5th Joint Scandinavian Confe- rence in Cardiothoracic Surgery which will take place in Aarhus, Denmark, August 22 – 24, 2013. Aarhus is the second-largest city in Denmark, with many educational and research institutions, the largest and most important of which is Aarhus University. The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery is part of Aarhus University Hospital.

We have composed an exciting scientific program of interest to all 3 societies with competent speakers from Europe and overseas. Please see the following pages for the preliminary pro-gram. There will be free oral and poster sessions as well as workshops, and we strongly recom-mend you to submit abstracts for evaluation. Please note the parallel sessions taking place Friday and Saturday especially for thoracic surgeons and nurses. There will also be time to visit the large exhibition area and have a chat with company representatives, colleagues and friends. The Get together Party will take place on August 22nd in the exhibition area of the Scandinavian Congress Center, where you can have a drink and enjoy a light meal.

Don’t forget to register for the “Run and Experience Aarhus”, which, guided by a local runner, will take you to the most interesting places in Aarhus early in the morning of August 23rd. And, as the perfect conclusion of an interesting congress day we have prepared a special gala eve-ning in the beautiful Museum of Art, AROS, with a guided tour before a delicious 3-course din-ner, completed by dancing to one of the best dance bands in Denmark.

Please visit our website www.sats2013.com for further information regarding the scientific pro-gram, registration and abstract submission.

Social events

Enjoy time with your friends and colleagues in a relaxed and cordial atmosphere ...

Art of displacementAt the opening ceremony, Aarhus Parkour will show us examples of the “art of displacement”. Parkour, also called the “art of displacement”, is a training discipline where practitioners aim to move from one place to ano-ther, negotiating the obstacles in between. Parkour is a “type of freedom” or “kind of expression”, “a state of mind” rather than a set of actions, and it is about over-coming and adapting to mental and emotional obstacles as well as physical barriers. It teaches you to touch the world and interact with it, instead of being sheltered by it. It gives you the ability to overcome your fears and pains and reapply this to life, since you must be able to control your mind in order to master the art of parkour. In a symbolic way, the discipline is similar to our spe-cialty. In contrast, there is no use of equipment.

Get together partyThe get together party will take place on August 22nd at 7 p.m. An informal evening where you will be able to meet with colleagues and exhibitors. The get together party will be held in the exhibition area at Scandinavian Congress Center. Danish traditional hot dog snacks will be served. Fee: Included in the registration fee.

Run and experience Aarhus“Run and experience Aarhus“ is a new way to do your sightseeing. It’s fun, ecological sightseeing and the best way to experience the city – guided by a local runner. The short distances, the fantastic sights, and the young vibe of Aarhus makes it perfect for sightseeing while running, so make “Run and experience Aarhus“ a part of your con-

gress program. We’ll make sure to give you lots of ideas of how to experience the city the way the locals do. On our run through the city we’ll show you its main sights while also sharing our knowledge of its less visible at-tractions. Whether you’re looking for the best restaurants in town, small galleries with up and coming artist or the best cup of coffee we’ll give you our best suggestions of where to go – while running at a comfortable pace. For this congress we have designed a special tour of 5 km. The tour takes you through the historical city centre, the main shopping district and along the Aarhus River. Main Sights are Aarhus Cathedral, Aarhus Theatre, The bygone street Møllestien and the Latin Quarter. So be ready Fri-day, 23rd of August at 6 a.m.Fee: DKK 100/Euro 15.

Gala dinner at AROSJoin us for an extraordinary evening in a perfect setting at AROS, Aarhus Museum of Art on August 24th at 6.30 p.m. After a short welcome a guide will take us on a tour from “the darkness in the basement to the rainbow on top”. A 3-course dinner and wine will be served. Airplay will supply the music, so remember your dancing shoes. Read more about the band at www.bandportalen.dk. Entertain-ment during the gala dinner by Cafe Kølbert.Fee: DKK 375/Euro 50.
