Swim test is requ ired for anyone not demonstrating the ability to swim safely in deep water. Aquatics

Class & Program Descriptions  All classes and programs are held at the Aquatic Center. Please consult 

lesson schedules beginning on page 24 for times, dates, and activity codes

for all classes and programs listed below.

Adult Swim Class This swim class is designed for adults and teens who want to learnswimming skills under the guidance of a trained instructor. This drop-inclass held at the Aquatic Center allows you to work on personal goals andprogress at your own rate.

Beginning Diving This course teaches correct approaches and entries, as well as dives in thestraight, pike, and tuck positions. Students need to be comfortable in

deep water and have Level III completion skills, or higher, to enroll.

KayakingKayaking is one of America’s fastest growing water activities. Let our sta give you the knowledge and skill necessary to safely maneuver a kayak through still water. Classes are taught in the 50-meter pool at the AquaticCenter. For ages 12 and above, participants must be comfortable in deep

water, able to swim 25 yards, and tread water fully clothed for 5 minutes inorder to enroll. Boats and safety equipment (life jackets and helmets) areprovided, or you may bring your own. Fee: $41 ($54 NR)

Lap SwimSwim your way to a healthier lifestyle! The Aquatic Center oers a widevariety of lap swim hours. Note: Children, ages 8-14, who wish to work-outduring this program must be comfortable in deep water and accompaniedin the water by an adult when they swim. Fee: $4 per visit (ages 55+, $3per visit); See page 24 for class schedule, and page 26 for membershipcard information.

Santa Clarita Masters Swim Club This coached workout is designed for swimmers 18 years old andabove who are interested in a serious workout along with the optionalopportunity to compete in regional U.S. Masters Swim Meets. Practicesare designed for both novice and experienced swimmers. For additionalinformation on the Santa Clarita Masters Swim Club please visit www.santaclaritamastersswimming.com. Class schedule listed on page 24.Fee: $58 per month ($69 NR)

Underwater HockeyCome join this low impact, high aerobic, and challenging sport. This coedsport encourages all to try. There will be the possibility of scrimmages tochallenge your skills. This fun and friendly sport is for ages 18 and above.Caps, sticks, and pucks are provided. Players are encouraged to bringtheir own mask, ns, and gloves. Please call the Aquatic Oce for moreinformation. Class schedule listed on page 24. Fee: $4 per player/visit

Tri-It!Interested in completing a sprint distance triathalon but do not knowwhere to start? Join us and tri it! This class is for those beginners thatare 18 and above that are looking for a multi-sport exercise with a goal.

Class meets twice a week. Tuesdays workouts will focus on swimmingendurance and technique. Requirements: Must be able to swim two laps(50 yards), run a half mile, and be comfortable riding a bicycle.Fee: $70 ($78 NR)

Pool School for HomeownersLearn how to keep your pool looking beautiful year round. Subjectsinclude: water sanitization, ltration, cleaning, and pool safety. Safety Classes

Lifeguard Training ClassLearn the skills you need to prevent and respond to emergencies in andaround the water. This American Red Cross class teaches professionalism,rst aid, rescue skills and CPR. The class meets state-mandated guidelinesfor lifeguards and is required for employment by many agencies.Successful participation in all three class sessions is required in order tocomplete the course. Prerequisite: 15 years old by the rst day of class;500 yard continuous swim; and 20 yard swim with a 10-lb. object.Fee: $177 ($200 NR) (plus a $60 book and material fee payable on the rst

day of the course)

Recreational Swim The City strives to make its pools a fun and safe place for your familyto relax and cool o in the fall. Come enjoy the play features and waterslide at the City’s Aquatic Center. Please remember that active in-watersupervision is required for all non-swimmers. Only Coast Guard approvedotation devices are allowed in the pool. The Aquatic Center has a limitednumber of approved life jackets available for use.

Swim Lessons

Parent/Child ClassesParents will receive instruction and demonstration of ways to help theirchild become comfortable in water. Safety and relaxation techniquesare emphasized. Babies must wear rubber pants under swim suits. Forchildren 6 months to 3 years old - must be accompanied by an adult in thewater. Classes taught 3 days per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday).

Progressive Swim Classes

Lesson DescriptionsLesson descriptions listed below are to provide a general idea of the abilitylevel of the child. However, upon arriving at the rst day of class the childwill be assessed and placed into the appropriate level.

Level 1 - Introduction to Water Skills - Designed to help childrenfeel more comfortable and safer in water. For children with no waterexperience or children who fear water. Child must be 3 years old by therst day of class to enroll.

Level 2 - Fundamental Aquatic Skills - The start of basic swimmingskills for children who do not fear water but can not yet swimindependently. Child must be 3 years old by the rst day of class to enroll.

Level 3 - Stroke Development - The start of coordinating arms and legs

in strokes, swimming distances up to 15 yards, and preliminary divingskills. In order to enroll, child must be 4 years old, comfortable in deepwater, and able to swim 5 yards unassisted by the rst day of class.

Level 4 - Stoke Improvement - Develops condence in skills. Morestrokes are introduced, and distance of swims increased up to 25 yards.Child must be 5 years old and able to swim 15 yards unassisted by the rstday of class to enroll.

Level 5 and above– Please check Competitive Stroke Instruction onpage 26 for students with abilities at or beyond this level.
