Time has passed so quickly! Soon 2008 will be over and Seascape Surveys will be 4 years old. Safety Observation Card winners

Incident ReportingAll events where Seascape Surveys is involved in loss, harm, or damage to people, property, equipment or the environment are incidents that must be formally reported as part of our incident reporting procedure, and Health, Safety and Environment Management System.

An incident is defined as any event that has or could have resulted in loss, harm, injury or damage to people, property, equipment or the environment. Events that potentially could have caused loss or harm but no actual loss or harm occurred (Near Miss) are incidents also, and must also be reported.

Incident reporting and investigation is not designed to place blame on any individual. It is a valuable tool for determining the root cause of any incident, and establishing methods to eliminate or minimise the affect of re-occurrence. All incident reports are reviewed immediately by senior management. The cause of the incident will be identified, and procedures established to prevent re-occurrence. If required, a member of the HSE management team may visit the site, to assist in determining the cause of the incident, and methods to prevent re-occurrence.

As outlined in our HSE and Operations Handbook, Seascape Surveys has 7 categories of Incidents such as Near Miss Incident (NMI), Damage Incident (DMI), Environmental Incident (ENI), First Aid Case (FAC), Lost Time Injury (LTI), Restricted Work Case (RWC) and Fatality (FTL)

All incident (and near miss) reports should be completed by the Party Chief and the people involved using the designated form (SSI-HQ-SF-007). The form is simple to complete, and all incident reports should be sent to the Operations Manager as soon as completed.

LEARNING THAI.. The most common greeting you will hear in Thailand is “sawatdee”. This is quite often used for both hello and goodbye. With most of the phrase on this page you need to end with the polite word “Krab” for men and “Kaa” for women. There are also a few phrases where I say “phom” which is “I” for men. Women would normally say “di-chun” in formal situations and “khun” among friends. Let me show you some easy conversation for greetings;

A: Sawat-dee krab/kaa (Hello)

B: Sawat-dee krab/kaa (Hello)

A: Sabai dee mai krab/kaa (how are you)

B: Sabai dee krab/kaa (I am fine)

Lao khun lae (and you?)

A: Sabai dee krab/kaa (sabai dee)*

*Quite often in Thai you don’t need to say “I”. But you can

if you like.

For men say Phom sabai dee”

for women say “di-chun sabai dee”

So please try this for your next visit to Thailand!

IT Knowledge Seascape Surveys VPN As we all know Seascape Surveys has become a subsidiary of Mermaid Offshore Services, a Thailand based service company. Seascape is growing bigger and bigger. To support this, communication between Jakarta, Singapore and Thailand officesneeds to be easier, faster and more cost effective.

This is where VPN come in place. What is VPN? VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. It is the same as in our Jakarta office, where we can connect to our server to store and retrieve data, and computers, printers and files are shared. The difference is, our Jakarta office is called a LAN (or Local Area Network), while the VPN is known as a WAN (or Wide Area Network).

VPN works using the Internet to transfer data between each point, but it has certain technologies called tunneling which hide the information that cross the internet.

For your information, internet is a public place where information that passing by can be read by other people when they know the way. In other means, it is not a secure place.

By using VPN, all information that go through the tunnel won’t be easily read by other people.

What’s the benefit of VPN for our office?

They are many benefits for VPN. One of benefits is VOIP or Voice Over Internet Protocol.

When the VPN is up, we will be able to contact the office in Thailand by using normal land line phone for no cost at all. It will just like Saras contacting Ovie on an internal call within the Jakarta office.

Transferring data and sharing data will be easier too. Staff in Singapore and Thailand will have access to same data as Jakarta. With this, data synchronizing between officesbecome easier.

Mobile workers will also see benefits. You will be able to access the server from anywherewith an internet connection, as long as the computer is configured for this.

A VPN has many other benefits, and will greatly support Seascape Survey as it grows to be bigger, mature and more successful company.

Just drop me a mail if requiremore info about VPN [email protected]

Survey Golf Day Event

All Golf Professional Players Ibu Etta in action Shaun and Pak Sobri

On 15th October 2008 several members of the Seascape Surveys management team attended the 1st “Indonesia Offshore Survey Company’s Golf Day”. This event was initiated and organised by Seascape Surveys. The event was held at the Royale Jakarta golf club, and included a buffet meal and presentation ceremony.

The idea behind the event was to get the management of the offshore survey companies operating in Indonesia together for a purely social event, outside of the business and commercial environment.

There were 20 players (5 flights of 4 players) and the format was a Texas scramble. The groupings were decided by drawing names out of a hat and with the handicaps of each group being “balanced” with 2 of the 10 lowest and 2 of 10 highest handicaps in each group. The result was an extremely enjoyable day, with everyone keen to do it again in 6 months time. Fugro has volunteered to organise the next event.

The winning team consisted of Pak Sobri (Pageo), Colin Campbell (Fugro), Rick Shannon (C&C) and Shaun China (Seascape Surveys), with a very respectable winning gross score of 71.

The other Seascape survey personnel to attend and play were Pak Yusnandar, Peter Reichlmeier, Roddy MacDonald and Ibu Margaretta Retno.
