Having the doona and quilt on the bed and snuggling into them is such a change from hanging my feet out the end of the bed while the ceiling fan is on flat out all night. Graeme returned to work last week – shorter weeks and hours for a while and we have a week’s holiday booked at Phillip Island at the end of March so by the time we get back after Easter, he will be at work full time. And we will be almost back to normal – whatever normal is! Our focus has shifted slightly and we will savour life’s moments more than we have for a while. Thank you to everyone who asked after Graeme and who helped us through a very trying time. The blanket of friendship and love that closed around us when we needed it was indeed beautiful. Seabreeze Quilters have featured in the British Patchwork & Quilting magazine with a page and a half of photos and story about us. Thank you Natalie for following this through and it’s been lovely to see the emails from England praising our bathing belles. We are becoming world famous!! I hope you enjoy the March meeting – I’ll be at the Bayside Festival icing cupcakes and playing with playdough. Tough work! Seabreeze Quilters will be at the Festival (at the Senior Citizens Centre) to advertise Quilt Fest and I hope that there will be helpers coming and going throughout the weekend to sell raffle tickets. I’ll specially ice cupcakes for any members who come along. I’ll catch up with you all at the April meeting. Until then, I hope you have a great month and I’ll see you after Easter! Kim xx

The Maharajah’s Garden travelling suitcase exhibition is an exhibition of textile art from members of the Australian Textile Art and Surface Design Association. Member’s art work will demonstrate different use of textiles and fibres creating ‘richly coloured artworks reminiscent of exotic spices and dazzling jewels’. The art work will display a wide range of techniques used such as, embroidery, dyeing, felting, weaving and more. There are two parts to the exhibition with two individual travelling suitcases, “Saffron” and “Jasmine”. We are very fortunate to have the “Saffron” suitcase for showing at our July meeting. The “Jasmine” suitcase will not be available until sometime next year. If you love textile art visit the ATASDA website, it’s interesting, inspiring and motivating : www.atasda.org.au If you are changing postal or email addresses please provide new details to Margherita, Natalie or Julie. Quilt Tip #4 Take photos and keep a written record of all your completed quilts. Make sure you label each of your quilts properly too on the back, so there is always a permanent record of who, when, and for whom the quilt was made.

I had a wonderful time with my family on our 5 week overseas trip. Even though it was cold we loved walking the streets of Paris, Barcelona, Venice, Florence and Rome. We enjoyed visiting the many historical and modern sites, galleries and museums. The highlight? Too many to mention, although Venice was a favourite. We are all glad to be back home now. Cheers Julie PS. And no, I didn’t come across any patchwork or craft shops! I couldn’t do it to the family!!!

This is exciting…Seabreeze Quilters is on the world map! Due to Natalie Dunn’s initial contact, Seabreeze Quilters Inc has featured (2 pages) in the March edition of the British Patchwork & Quilting magazine. Since then, Nat has received numerous correspondence from the other side of the world. Here’s a snap shot of emails received. “Dear Natalie The feature has appeared in P&Q and I hope it will result in some international entries for your quilt competition and lots of international visitors as well. I am arranging for 6 copies to be sent c/o Louis Joel Arts & Community Centre, so you can show your chairman (and any other important people you want to impress) how your initial email developed into all this publicity. Do you think Seabreeze Quilters would like an exchange with my local group, Malvern Quilters? Maybe we could start by ‘dressing’ the Bathing Belles and sending our versions to you. All good wishes, Dianne Huck Editor: British Patchwork and Quilting Magazine Oak Tree Cottage, Evesbatch” “Dear Natalie Just read a lovely article about the Seabreeze quilters in British P&Q magazine and have had a browse through your website. So many ideas! And such a lively group. I particularly like the bathing belles, such fun and a beautiful way of honouring the memory of member who have passed away as well. Can you tell me where the pattern for the Strip aprons come from? It looks like a great group project and we are always raising money for charity here. Our group the Heather quilters is much smaller than yours (25members) and we meet twice a month in term time in this village, Glaisdale. Regards Hanneke Wood The Old Forge Glaisdale North Yorks” Hi Natalie ... was very interested in the article ‘a group from down under’. More especially in your bathing belles quilt. What a smashing idea.... I belong to a group of 20+ ladies who meet every Thursday evening. ... We come from Scotland, not too far from Glasgow. Best Wishes Kris Todd

continued … “Hello Natalie I read your article about Seabreeze Quilters in the latest P&Q magazine. I love the bathing belles! I also looked at the website and thought what a fantastic show of quilts…they are all so different. Really exciting! I am a member of a group of 24 quilters in South East London. We are called Quaggy Quilters because we live in a town (Lewisham) which has a river through it called the Quaggy. It is not a pretty river but we used the name because quilters can make something lovely out of something that may not be very pretty to start with! We celebrated our 11th anniversary this year. We have our 4th exhibition taking place in April but it is only for a day. I cannot imagine how much work it must have taken to organise Quilt Fest. You probably all have a busy year ahead but if any one is interested I wonder if it might be possible to link our two groups? I will keep looking at the website and hope you will write something about the Festival once it has taken place. Good luck with you Quilt Fest in October. King regards Carol Phelps” “Natalie Glad you like the photo! ... Quaggy Quilters was born in 1999 when I had been quilting for a number of years and I wanted some patchworking friends in London. I learned from a friend whilst living in Germany in the late 80s. I put an ad in the local press. Ten of us met in my home and we increased in number, having our first exhibition in 2003. We were quite a mixture of beginners and experienced quilters and we have workshops, trips and speakers including a Strawberry Tea in August and a Christmas Party in one of our homes. Usually quite traditional in flavour with our quilts some of us are trying out more diverse techniques these days. I think it’s always good to have a mixture of styles – although we are only 24 maximum. Renting space that is suitable for our meeting, in a busy London suburb where parking is at a premium, is expensive and quite hard to find. We currently meet in a church hall where we have been for a few years now. We regularly make quilts for Linus and they get given to our local children’s ward at Lewisham Hospital. Enjoy the break. Carol
