“Sea You at the Fair!”“Sea You at the Fair!” is this year’s theme and we’re starting the season with a splash.

Now is the time to be thinking about entering an exhibit or two at this year’s Fair. This book is filled with hundreds of categories to choose from – home grown vegetables, a favorite drawing, a classroom project, a birdhouse, a tie dye item, a quilt, a fairy garden, baked goods, salsa, or a favorite photo. Or, try one of new categories like button art, plastic utensil art, a decorated beach chair, or a sea creature mask. The possibilities are endless!

It’s easy to enter an exhibit. • Choose your favorite categories• Fill out the exhibit paperwork in the back of this

book between June 1 and July 21• Return it to the Fair Office• Or, you can enter online at NevadaCountyFair.com • Most categories are free!

All those who enter an exhibit will receive two free admission tickets to the Thursday evening performance of the Draft Horse Classic in September!

This year’s Fair will be filled with a “sea” of attractions and activities – ongoing musical entertainment, carnival rides and games, barns full of livestock, vendors selling wares, daily food contests, horse demonstrations, special contests in the Special Events Tent, and educational fun in Ag-Sperience. Don’t miss the “Beachcomber Area” in the Magic Forest or the Stingray Exhibit on The Green!

Treat Street will be open and filled with delicious food made by volunteers of local nonprofit organizations whose booths are used to generate income for services provided to the community. Whether it’s a cold beer, a baked potato, a

cinnamon roll, corn on the cob, a taco, a meatball sandwich, or a pastie, it can be found on Treat Street.

In the arena, it’s the Flying U Extreme Rodeo on Wednesday and Thursday; Friday and Saturday night features Tuff Trucks and Monster Trucks; and Sunday night features the Destruction Derby.

For the best deals, purchase your tickets early. Our advance ticket sales (and discounts) begin June 1. Details on discounts are listed in this book and on our website.

We’ll “Sea You at the Fair!”

Due to mandates from the California State Fire Marshal and the Fairgrounds’ insurance agency, areas of the Fairgrounds will be closed, such as the carnival area, to the public during the Tuesday before the Fair.

Additionally, no dogs, bicycles, scooters, skateboards, or school tours will be allowed on the grounds during the Monday and Tuesday before Fair, or the Monday following the Fair. Because of the large number of people, animals, moving vehicles, and large equipment on the grounds on these days, these measures are being put into place for the safety of the public and our customers.

On Tuesday, vendors will be checked in and out through Gate 5 and Gate 8 (with their pass, designating their appropriate gate), and must remove their vehicles immediately following unloading. Livestock exhibitors will be checked in through Gate 6 and must remove their vehicle immediately following unloading the animals. While this may be an inconvenience for some, these safety precautions are mandated and necessary. Thank you for understanding.

The Nevada County Fairgrounds does not allow smoking or vaping during the Fair on the Fairgrounds, except in designated outdoor areas. Those who desire to smoke or use a vapor device must visit one of the four designated smoking areas within the Fairgrounds.

READY SET ACTI N!

It is with sadness that we say goodbye to two Fair friends – Pat Riley and Harry Stewart.

• Pat served as a member of the Nevada County Fairgrounds Board of Directors for many years, and was inducted into the Nevada County Fair Hall of Fame in 2003. She also proudly served as a lifelong 4-H Club member, leader and supporter. She was a great friend of the Fair; and could be found each year, with a smile, at the Fair’s opening day ceremony.

• Harry, a lifelong resident of Nevada County, served on the Nevada County Fairgrounds Board of Directors. Additionally, he was on the Nevada City Council, and served as the Mayor of Nevada City in the early 1990s.

Pat and Harry will be fondly remembered as we begin the 2017 season.
