    Water softener

In order to rinse dishes and glassessatisfactorily, the dishwasher requires softwater, i.e. containing little or no lime, otherwise water stains will be left behind

on crockery and glasses, etc.If the tap water exceeds a certain level ofhardness, it must be softened, i.e.decalcified, so that it can be used in thedishwasher. This is achieved by adding a special saltto the water softener inside thedishwasher. The water softener, that is the requiredamount of salt, is set up according to how

hard the tap water is.Setting up the water softener

Determine the level of hardness of yourtap water. Your local water company orservice agent can help you with this.

Identify setting from the following waterhardness table.

    Water hardness table

    Close the door

    Rotate the programme selector 3

from the 12 oclock position by onenotch to the left.

Switch on main switch 1 and holddown for at least 3 sec.The digital display 8 indicates the

current set hardness value and the saltrefill indicator 6 flashes

(hardness value has been set to 4

at the factory). To change the setting: Rotate theprogramme selector 3 .You can select a set value between0 and 7 according to the hardnessof your water.

Switch off the main switch 1 .The chosen setting has now beenstored.

Approx. 4 litres of water are required forregenerating the water softening system. The overall water consumption per loadcan therefore be increased by between 0and a maximum of 4 litres according to thewater hardness setting.

    Filling in the Salt

Open the screw-type cap of thecompartment 24 .

    Warning

Before switching on the appliance forthe first time, pour approx. 1 litre of waterinto the salt dispenser.

Then refill with salt (not cooking salt)until the salt container is full(max. 1.5 kg). When you refill the salt, water is being displaced and drains off.

Refill with salt always just before switchingon the appliance in order to preventcorrosion. As a result, any salt solutionwhich has run over will be immediatelydiluted and flushed out.

Then clean the filling area of saltresidues and screw the compartmentlid back on without tilting the lid.

The LOW SALT indicator 6 on the frontpanel will light up initially but will extinguishagain after a short period when the saltsolution has become sufficientlyconcentrated.

If the set hardness value is , do not add

salt because no salt is used duringoperation; the salt refill indicatoris switched off.

    Warning

Do not pour detergent into the containerfor special salt. This would destroy thewater softener.

Salt refill indicatorAs soon as the salt refill indicator 6 is lit

on the control panel, refill with saltimmediately before the next rinse cycle.

Depending on the washing frequency andthe hardness setting, the regeneration saltmay not have to be topped up for severalmonths.

    Not suitable forthe dishwasher

The following should not becleaned in the dishwasher:

    Wooden cutlery and utensils these

will leach out and become unsightly;even the utilised stickers are notsuitable for the temperatures whichoccur.

Sensitive ornamental glasses, craftutensil and vases, special antiqueor irretrievable utensils. Theseornaments are not dishwasher-proof.

Plastic parts sensitive to hot water.Copper and tin utensils.

Utensils which are soiled with ash, wax, lubricating grease or ink.

Absorbent materials such as spongesand cloths.

Aluminium and silver parts havea tendency to discolour and fade duringthe wash cycle. Even some types of glass(e.g. crystal glass objects) may turn cloudyafter many wash cycles.

    Recommendation:

In future buy utensils which are identifiedas dishwasher-proof.

    Damage to glassware and otherdishes

    Possible causes:

type of glass or manufacturing process

    chemical composition of detergent

water temperature and duration ofdishwasher programme.

Suggested remedy:Use glassware or porcelain dishes thathave been marked dishwasherproofby the manufacturer.

Use a mild detergent that is describedas kind to dishes. If necessary, seekfurther information from detergentmanufacturers.

Select a programme with as low atemperature and as short a duration as

possible. To prevent damage, take glass andcutlery out of the dishwasher as soonas possible after the programme hasended.

    Arranging crockery,glasses, etc. in thedishwasher

    Loading the dishwasher

Scrape off any large amounts ofleft-over food. It is not necessary torinse the dishes under running water.

Place objects in the dishwasher in sucha way thatD items such as cups, glasses,

    pots/pans, etc. are stood upsidedown,

D curved items, or those withrecesses, should be at a slant so

that water can run off,D they are stacked securely and

cannot tip over,D they do not prevent the spray arms

    from rotating while washing takesplace.

Very small items should not be washed inthe dishwasher as they could easily fall outof the baskets.

Removing the dishesTo prevent water dripping from the topbasket onto the dishes in the lower basket,we recommend that you empty the lowerbasket first and then the top basket.

    Detergents

    Information about detergents

You can use any brand of liquid or powderdetergent, as well as tablets, that havebeen specifically designed for use in

domestic dishwashers. (Do not use normalwashing-up liquid!)

Nowadays there are three types ofdishwasher detergent available:1. those containing phosphates and

chlorine,2. those containing phosphates but no

    chlorine,3. those containing neither phosphates

    nor chlorine.

When a phosphate-free detergent is usedin conjunction with hard water, there is agreater possibility that white marks will beleft behind on crockery and glasses, etc. These can be avoided by pouring anincreased amount of detergent into thedispenser.

Chlorine-free detergents have a reducedbleaching effect. This can mean that teastains are not completely removed orplastic items become discoloured.

    This can be resolved by:

D selecting a higher temperatureprogramme, or

D increasing the amount of detergent,or

D using a detergent that containschlorine.

Check the label on the detergentpackaging to determine whether aparticular product is suitable for use withsilverware.

If you have any further questions, werecommend that you contact the customer

advice departments of the variousdetergent manufacturers.

    Detergent compartment withmeasuring marks

The side of the detergent compartment ismarked with lines to help you determinehow much powder to add.The capacity of the detergent container is15 ml up to the bottom line and 25 ml up tothe middle line. When the compartment isfull it contains 40 ml.

If the detergent dispenser 30 is still

closed, press the lock 28 to open thedetergent dispenser.

    Adding detergent

Fill the dispenser 30 with detergent. Please observe the manufacturersinstructions printed on the detergentpackaging when determining thecorrect dosage.

    Important

Due to the different solvency properties ofthe detergent tablets supplied by various

manufacturers, the cleaning efficiency ofthe detergent may not be fully utilised byshort programmes. It is recommended touse washing powder for theseprogrammes.

If using the Intensive programme(some models), also pour approx.1015 ml of detergent ontothe appliance door. If using tablets, also place a tablet on the appliance

    door.

    auto 3in1

The use of so-called combined detergentproducts may make the use of rinse aidand/or salt unnecessary.

There are currently several types of

combined detergent products available.3in1: They contain detergent, rinse aidand salt function.

2in1: They contain detergent and rinseaid or salt function.

    >>>Always check the type of detergentor combined product which youare using!

Always follow the operating instructionsor the information on the packaging.

The rinse programme is automaticallyadjusted in order to obtain the bestpossible rinsing and drying result.

Observe the following importantinformation if using combined cleaningproducts:

Regeneration salt is not required up to

a water hardness of 21_ dH (37_ fH,26_ Clarke, 3.7 mmol/l) only. No othersettings on the appliance are required.

Salt is still required if the waterhardness is above 21_ dH (37_ fH,26_Clarke, 3.7 mmol/l). Fill the saltdispenser with salt 24 and select

setting 6 on the water softening system.

If in doubt, please contact the detergentmanufacturer, especially if:

the utensils are very wet at the endof the programme.

    limescale forms.

    Washing dishes

    Reduce costs!

If only a small number of dishes havebeen loaded into the dishwasher, selecting

a programme that operates at the nextlowest temperature will usually suffice.

    Programme specifications

The programme specifications can befound in the summary of instructions.Programme specifications refer to normalconditions. Greater deviations may occurdue to:

    varying amounts of dishes

    water supply temperature

    water pipe pressure

    ambient temperature

    mains voltage tolerances

and the tolerances specificto the appliance (e.g. temperature, amount of water, etc.)

The water consumption values referto a set water hardness value of 4.

    Aqua sensor *

    * on applicable models

The Aqua sensor is an optical measuringdevice which measures the turbidity of therinsing water. A light barrier can detectdissolved food remnants in the water, e.g.egg, fat and oats.

The Aqua sensor is used according to

the programme. When the Aqua sensoris active, clean rinsing water may betransferred into the next rinsing bathand/or the temperature adjusted. If theturbidity is greater, the water is drainedand is replaced with fresh water. In thisway the water consumption is reduced byapprox. 4 litres for utensils which are lessdirty.

    Switching on the appliance

    Close the door.

    Turn on the tap fully.

Rotate programme selector 3 to the

    required programme.

Switch on the main switch 1 .The expected programme durationis indicated on the numericaldisplay 8 .

    The programme sequence startsautomatically.

    Remaining running time display

When the appliance has started, theexpected programme running time is

displayed. The programmed running timeis affected by the water temperature, thenumber of dishes, as well as the degreeof soiling. If these conditions are changed, the running time (depending on theselected programme) can vary greatly. As the effect is not detected until aprogramme is running, the time maybe longer or shorter than expected.

End of programmeThe programme has ended when a figure

appears in the numerical display 8 .

    Switching the dishwasher OFF

Several minutes after the programme hasended:

Set the main switch 1 to OFF.

Turn the water tap off.(Does not apply when Aqua-Stop unithas been fitted)

Remove dishes, etc. when they havecooled down.
