CREATIVE COMMUNITY

• Five contracts have been awarded to launch the initiative, including:

– Conduct a creative business asset inventory putting the information in an accessible form via an online interactive map and a web portal.

– Complete a development plan for the Creative Corridor, providing an integrated strategy for linking existing nodes of activity along the corridor.

– Complete a creative business attraction strategy including an analysis of the existing Greater Detroit creative economy & an incentive and marketing strategy to attract companies to the Creative Corridor

– Develop a Creative Corridor branding and marketing strategy that brands the entire Corridor and enhances the branding/marketing of existing nodes of activities along the Corridor.

– Develop a strategy and identify the required elements to develop a Creative Business Accelerator within the Creative Corridor.

• An all vendor kick-off meeting was held where vendors were able to share their vision for the projects as well as share in a Q & A with key stakeholders from the Creative Community.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP

• The region’s economic developers and business accelerators formed a coalition to advocate for funding at the federal and state levels.

• Several meetings occurred to educate members of Congress, state legislators and state officials on the importance of our business accelerators and what they do.

• Our state advocacy efforts have been less fruitful because of the state’s budget situation. The Coalition will be discussing a plan of action for 2008.

• Detroit Renaissance has teamed with representatives from Oakland County and Ann Arbor who were each pursuing their own venture capital funds.

• Together, the three groups have been successful in raising commitments totaling approximately $35 million toward the $100 million goal. We have made investment presentations to several companies that are still in the decision-making process and will be meeting with other companies this fall.
