Congratulations to The Burlington Performing Arts Centre on your upcoming 19/20 Season. I know the shows and performances that will happen here are going to be exciting and our community will take great pleasure in attending this amazing facility located right here in Burlington.
BPAC holds an important place in our community as a place to highlight local, national, and international talent through the performing arts. This year’s lineup represents a diverse group of artists that everyone across Burlington is sure to enjoy. Congratulations to BPAC, the board members, the volunteers, and the patrons – thank you for making BPAC so wonderful.
Sincerely,
Hon. Karina Gould Member of Parliament, Burlington
Greetings from Burlington City Hall!
The Burlington Performing Arts Centre has another fantastic lineup in store for the 19/20 Season as it continues to reflect the cultural diversity and range of interests in our growing community.
From classic rock acts like April Wine to the sounds of Sinatra with Matt Dusk or the
80’s nostalgia of Tiffany, there is no shortage of great musical options.
You can ring in lunar new year with an amazing lineup of Chinese song, dance and instrumentation, or learn more about the resilience of residential school survivors with Kaha:wi Dance Theatre: The Mush Hole.
Family-friendly fun with Sesame Street Live is sure to be a hit with the kids, and longtime favourite The Nutcracker is back again in time for the holidays.
There’s comedy, drama and so much more and it’s all happening right here in our own city. I look forward to seeing you there and sharing in these memorable experiences.
Mayor Marianne Meed Ward

The Board of Directors of The Burlington Performing Arts Centre is thrilled to welcome you to our 19/20 Season. We are confident this Season’s performances will continue to attract enthusiastic audiences. We continue our commitment to education programs that introduce young audiences to the performing arts, often for the first time. We also provide mentorship opportunities for secondary
students – programs that are central to our mission.
A national magazine recently ranked Burlington the best city in Canada in which to live. We know that BPAC plays an important part in Burlington’s reputation, as a leading institution in the City’s cultural fabric.
Our guest performers continue to rave about their experience here – the acoustics of our theatres; the support of our crew; and the reception from you, our audiences. Before they depart the stage, they can’t wait to return! We hope the same holds true for you.
Rick Burgess – BPAC Board Chair
Our 19/20 Season features return engagements with some audience favourites as well as a wide array of exciting artists with whom you may not be familiar. I encourage you to take risks this Season, expand your cultural horizons and allow yourself to be inspired by a brand new performing arts experience. You will not be disappointed!
This Season includes more local flavour than ever before, as we collaborate with a number of talented community partners, such as Burlington Symphony Orchestra; Ancaster resident Jayne Eastwood (Women Fully Clothed); local country musicians Vanessa Marie Carter and Evan Farrell; The Year of the Rat: A Chinese New Year Celebration presented in partnership with Redleaf Cultural Integration; Hamilton-based artists Tom Wilson and Caissie Levy… and many more!
At BPAC we are more than a presenter – we are also a cultural developer and a community hub. When we come together to experience live entertainment, we discover a shared humanity and our sense of community deepens. Thank you to all of our patrons, artists, volunteers and staff for making BPAC such a vibrant gathering place for the entire community.
Tammy Fox – BPAC Executive Director

What happens when a poet, an author, a composer, his lover, and a literature-loving stripper all move into the same house in quiet, wartime Brooklyn?
CBC host, storyteller and BPAC favourite Tom Allen returns with this intoxicating mix of chamber musical cabaret, social history, and very juicy gossip.
Together with songstress Patricia O’Callaghan, pianist and vocalist Bryce Kulak and harpist Lori Gemmell, Tom Allen treats the audience to the songs and stories of unlikely roommates W.H. Auden, Benjamin Britten, Carson McCullers and Gypsy Rose Lee.

A woman’s work is never done — birth, death, friendship, relationships, career, aging, learning, illness, art, joy, survival — and for Women Fully Clothed, they don’t just write about it, they live it! And so, after being on the back burner for a short time, they’re cooking again and ready to poke fun at themselves and the world around them.
Women Fully Clothed are Canadian comedy heavyweights featuring Robin Duke (Saturday Night Live, SCTV, Man Seeking Woman), Kathryn Greenwood (Wind at My Back, Whose Line Is It Anyway?), Teresa Pavlinek (The Jane Show) and Jayne Eastwood (Dawn of the Dead, Hairspray, Chicago).
Laugh along with four of Canada’s top comediennes as they make their triumphant return to BPAC!

CONFESSIONS OF A FAIRY’S DAUGHTER
A moving and surprisingly funny one-woman show about growing up with a gay father in the 1980s. Based on her national best-selling memoir, this is the true story of Alison’s carefree childhood to the moment she learned, at age twelve, that her family was a bit more complex than she had thought. The ensuing years were a time of confusion and disbelief, puff pastry and opera, bathhouse raids, scandal and celebration. A captivating tale of family life: deliciously imperfect, riotously challenging, and full of life’s great lessons in love.

How do you embody an enigma? DANCE ME is an exclusive creation inspired by the rich and profound work of Montréal-based poet, artist and songwriter, Leonard Cohen.
The most ambitious creation in the 45-year history of the acclaimed BJM, and the brainchild of its Artistic Director Louis Robitaille, the former Canadian ballet star, DANCE ME was approved by Leonard Cohen during his lifetime. Under the strong and bold dramaturgy of Eric Jean, three internationally renowned choreographers were entrusted with putting movement to 15 of Cohen’s legendary songs, from his first album in 1967, to You Want It Darker, released just before he died. This globe-trotting production inspired by the legendary Canadian artist’s singular work, is brought to life by 14 of BJM’s most exceptional performing artists.

This powerful dance production acknowledges the lives of Mohawk Institute Residential School students by symbolically offering past students what they did not receive: love, caring, tenderness, nourishment, cultural knowledge and language. The story follows 2 generations of Survivors, demonstrating the intergenerational effects of Canada’s long history of the residential school system. It is a response to that experience, an embodied way to feed the hunger of their spirits and to say: “kwè:iahre – we remember you; kwanorónhkhwa – we love you; and tenkwáhsnie – we will care for you.”
Tekaronhiáhkhwa Santee Smith is from Six Nations of the Grand River, Ontario. She is a mother, multi-disciplinary artist, and award-winning producer, choreographer and Kaha:wi Dance Theatre’s Artistic Director.
