SuMMARyOn the Contacts between the Peoples of Soth-East

and Central Asia in Antiqitb S.V.Lapteff(Koto, Japan)

In this article we analze some new archaeological ndings fromThailand and Cambodia, which evidence the relationship to Central Asiain the IVII centries AD. In recent ears the objects of Hellenistic, NearEastern or Iranian origin are being fond in the Indochina Peninsla. Amongthe foreign origin objects there are also few connected to Central Asia andparticlarl related to the analogies fond in Tajikistan and Afghanistan(Shirin, Tphona, Tilla-tepe sites). In is likel to sppose, that CentralAsian objects came here throgh Hindstan, the considerable part of whichwas inclded in the Kshan Empire, which also inherited and creativelprocessed the Hellenistic cltre.

For late Roman time archaeologists note the emergence in the materialcltre of Abkhazia some German elements and connect this fact withthe expansion of the Germans. It is believed that the German inence isevident in the armor, sit and fneral rites of ancient Abkhazian poplation.Some of these featres are not relevant to the Germans, as the are knownon the Black Sea coast of the Cacass before the arrival of the Germans.It concerns the cremation rite, known in the West Cacass alread in theearl Iron Age. The cstom of rital brial weapon damage is also wellknown among the poplation of the Black Sea coast of the Cacass

alread in III centries. That probabl goes back to the North Cacasianbrial traditions of the earl Iron Age. Some tpes of weapons taken forGerman, distribted among different peoples. In realit, no dobt to theGerman traits in the material cltre of the Roman period of Abkhazia andthe Great Migration period inclde certain tpes of mbo and handles ofshields and certain tpes of spears. Also German in origin are some metaland amber pendants female attire. Later appear discoid amber beads withthreaded linear decoration, for the same time is awarded onl one nd ofGerman brooches. No other specic featres of German cltre in Abkhaziahave been detected, and the weapons and ornaments German appearance

at this time is widel distribted in the late Roman Empire, particlarlin the militar environment. Apparentl, the appearance of Westerncltral elements in Abkhazia shold soon see the impact of Roman armoccping the coastal bases on the Black Sea coast of the Cacass, or theimpact of the Roman arm veterans, who settled in Abkhazia.

SuMMARYEarly Sacral Architectre of Iranian Peoplesby G.A.Koshelenko, V.A.Gaibov(Moscow)

Considerable attention is paid to the problems of early sacralarchitectre of Iranian peoples in contemporary literatre. However weobserve lack of serios progress in investigation of this problem. This canbe explained by two typical mis-approaches in solving this problem: 1) bythe desire to bild all the monments from the most ancient times to thebeginning of Islam into a niform scheme; 2) by the absence of interest tothe pecliarities of sacral architectre. Having considered all the availablematerial, athors came to the following conclsions: 1) Herodots xed

the end of traditional system of clt, 2) complication of the strctre ofthe society, that of its cltre reqired modernization of organization ofreligios life of all Iranian peoples, 3) sch modernization was displayedin creation of monmental platforms, which imitated raised places,described by Herodots, 4) the earliest temples appear in Media, as in themost developed contry, however this tendency to create new temples can be seen everywhere, especially bright example of local school of sacralarchitectre is given by Khorezm, 5) religios reform of Artaxerxes IIreslted not only in appearance of anthropomorphic images of gods, btalso in creation of imperial type of temple, which we know in Persepolis,Ssa and Kkh-i Khoja.

The militar organization of the Boeotian leage was tpical for Greecein the Hellenistic epoch. Traditionall, the arm of the leage consisted ofthe contingents of the poleis. The local commanders led their troops, inthe cavalr there were ilai. In the Classical epoch, the Boeotian horse wastpical Greek cavalr who foght with the spears in distant and close battle.In great eld battles, the foot hamippoi foght beside their cavalrmen.In the Hellenistic period, the cavalr armament changed, i.e. the Boeotian

horsemen got long btted lances and shields. This armament meant themilitar reform according to Macedonian pattern in the second half of the3rdcentr BC. This cavalr sall foght in close combat.
