    FADE IN:

    INT. THE SHRINK #1S OFFICE - DAY

    ALYA (16) who has blonde, long hair, a round face and who is

    not very tall enters a room. It has a big wooden table anda big, black leather couch in front of it. A middle agedSHRINK welcomes her with a big smile. She shakes Alyashand, they both sit. The dialogs are in Turkish.

    SHRINK #1So, Alya what brings you here?

    ALYAWhy do you keep saying this? Youknow why Im here.

    INT. THE SHRINK #2S OFFICE - DAY

    A male SHRINK (#2) who is around 50 is sitting across Alyaon a beige couch.

    SHRINK #2Okay, then tell me how thishappened.

    INT. THE SHRINK #3S OFFICE - DAY

    A serious female SHRINK (#3) who is over 50 is sitting

    across Alya on a big red chair.

    ALYA(smiling like she is makingfun of her a little)

    Will you tie me up if I dont tellyou?

    INT. THE SHRINK #1S OFFICE - DAY

    SHRINK #1(with a big smile)

    Its just that life is too shortand it will end without evennoticing. Youve been through a lotof changes, I know but youre soyoung and life has many wonderfulsides. Even though you may not haveseen many of them yet, you willeventually.

    Alya looks at her confused. Shrink #1 still has a big smileon her face.

    ALYAOh, youll give me some pot now?

    INT. THE SHRINK #2S OFFICE - DAY

    SHRINK #2You have a boyfriend right?

    ALYARight.

    SHRINK #2Can the situation be related withanything sexual?

    ALYAYes, he is into men. I dont knowwhat to do.

    SHRINK #2I think your sarcasm has somethingunderneath it. Lets try to solvethis. Maybe he didnt want yousexually. Maybe he cheated on youwith someone else. Maybe you caughtthem and felt horrible.

    Alya tilts her head.

    ALYADo you need someone to talk to? Ima great listener.

    INT. THE SHRINK #3S OFFICE - DAY

    The shrink #3 looks at Alya seriously and a little pissed.Alya is lying on the couch, her eyes are closed, her tongueis out. Acting like she is dead.

    ALYA(opening her eyes)

    What? You wanted the whole story.

    INT. HOSPITAL - NIGHT

    Rushing Hande (25) into the hospital. She is pregnant andvery much in pain. The nurses and the doctor quickly takesher to the delivery room as Semih (27) goes back and forthin front of the door of the delivery room. They speak

    English from now on.

    NARRATORActually the whole story was alittle more complicated and it allstarted here.

    The relatives start coming and talking to Semih.

    INT. HOSPITAL - NIGHT

    All of the relatives are sitting here and there looking

    tired, some of them are sleeping. Semih is sitting on theground in front of the door.

    NARRATORIn the morning the doctor came outof the delivery room. Apparently hewas the first person I gave a hardtime to.

    DOCTOR(in Turkish)

    The baby just refused to come out.We had to do a Caesarean.

    The baby comes out from the delivery room in a nurses arms,with a pink blanket. Everyone excitingly goes towards thebaby.

    NARRATORMy grandmother says that I was notcrying at all when I was born andit was because I was so brave andsmart. I think it was because ofthe narcosis.

    INT. BEDROOM - DAY

    A blue babys room with a lot of blue stuff. The baby is ina crib, sleeping. Hande is right by her side and Semih isnext to them with a book in his hands.

    NARRATORI was expected to be a "Can", butsince I was missing the necessaryapparatus, I was nameless foralmost a week. Then they got a bookof baby names. "Alya" is the

    evidence of the hours they spentsearching.

    INT. AIRPORT -DAY

    Hande and Alya are in front of a counter where the passportsare being checked. Hande is giving the passports to theOFFICER who is in charge. Alya is looking at the officerbehind the counter. She is on her finger tips in order tosee him.

    NARRATOR

    When I was 4, my mom got a jobopportunity in the States. Shetook me with her.

    The officer smiles at her.

    OFFICERHi there!

    Alya gets embarrased and hides back behind the counter.

    INT. KINDERGARTEN - DAY

    A kindergarten with two TEACHERS and almost 15 children.There are many toys all around the room. Most of them areplastic and colorful. Some of the children are playing withthe toys. The others are looking at Alya. Alya is on theground crying, screaming and kicking. One of the teachers ison the phone.

    NARRATORI didnt know the language yet butI managed to make myself heard.

    TEACHERWe really cannot understand her.The things she is saying are not onthe list you gave us. Maybe if youcould talk to her...

    The teacher gives the phone to Alya. Alya takes the phone asshe sniffs. She talks to her mother.

    NARRATORI just wanted some water.

    Alya gives the phone back to the teacher.

    INT. RESTAURANT - NIGHT

    A modern decorated restaurant with steel tables and big redchairs. Alya, Hande and Handes friends are sitting alltogether having dinner. Alya is talking with the others witha confident attitude.

    NARRATORI learned English so fast and Iwanted to show it in every possiblesituation. I was even criticizingmy mother.

    As a waiter passes by the table Hande turns towards thewaiter.

    HANDE(with a little Turkish accent)

    Can I have more water please?

    WAITERCertainly.

    Alya turns towards Hande.

    ALYA

    "Water" is not pronounced likethat! The "t" is more like a "d"."Water". See?

    HANDEOh? Okay Im sorry. My bad.

    Hande and her friends are surprised. They smile and laughpolitely.

    INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY

    A living room with a big gray couch which is leaned to oneof the walls. There is a television which is right acrossthe couch. The wall to wall carpet on the ground. There is aglass dining table and steel chairs on the other side of theroom. Alya (5) is sitting crossed-legged in front of thetelevision and staring at it with wide open eyes. Almost notblinking at all.

    NARRATORWhen I was 5 my mom did somethingthat was to be the turning point ofmy life. She brought home the videocassette of my first Disney movie,Aladdin.

    Everything stays the same, only Alyas clothes keepchanging.

    NARRATORI hadnt seen anything morebeautiful before. I was watching italmost everyday. It had a hugeinfluence on me. I was very angrywhen my mom refused to buy me a pettiger.

    EXT. THE FRONT OF AN APARTMENT - DAY

    A carpet is seen from the window of a apartment which is nothigh very much.

    NARRATORI was hugely disappointed by thefact that our carpets did not fly.

    The window is seen closer. Alya gets near the window andtries to get on the carpet.

    ALYAOkay carpet. Take me to dad!

    Hande sees Alya, runs to her and catches her just as she isabout to jump. Hande looks very scared. The carpet fallsdown from the window. Alya looks after it. When it lands onthe ground Alya looks frustrated.

    ALYAI cant believe it!

    Alya gets down from Handes arms and walks out of the roomangrily.

    INT. ALYAS BEDROOM - NIGHT

    A little girls bedroom with lots of girl toys. Barbies,plastic kitchen accessories, etc. Almost everything in theroom is pink. The lamp, pillows, the chair etc. Alya (6) issinging along with a song of the Little Mermaid which iscoming from a tape. She is dancing and acting as if she wereArial at the same time.

    NARRATORThe fairy tale world became myreality. I believed that my lifewas going to be exactly like them.One day my mom gave me the worstnews in my life.

    Hande (31), enters the room and smiles.

    HANDE(in Turkish)

    You are amazing! But you have to goto sleep now, so you can be evenmore amazing tomorrow, okay?

    Alya turns off the tape and gets into her bed.

    ALYA(in Turkish only "mermaids" in

    English)Mommy, I want to see some mermaids.Where can we find them?

    Hande caresses Alyas hair.

    HANDE(in Turkish)

    Sweetheart, mermaids dont exist inthe real world. They are only infairy tales.

    Alya lies in her bed with a shocked and almost crying face.

    Hande looks worried.

    HANDESweety?

    Alya screams as loud as she can.

    NARRATORI couldnt sleep that night. Andanother few nights.

    Hande tries to calm Alya down.

    INT. KITCHEN - DAY

    Alya is sitting next to the kitchen table. There is somefood in front of her but she is not eating. She has the sameexpression on her face, shocked and almost crying.

    NARRATORI couldnt cope.

    She stays the same and doesnt move.

    INT. PARENTS BEDROOM - DAY

    Alya rushes into Handes room. Hande is sleeping. Alya wakesHande up.

    HANDE(in Turkish)

    Honey what happened?

    ALYA(in Turkish)

    We have to go to the library!(as she gets out of the room)

    Come on!

    Hande barely opens her eyes and looks at the clock which ison the drawer next to the bed and shakes her head.

    HANDE(murmuring)

    Alya.. Alya..

    Hande gets out of the room Alya is talking nonstop.

    EXT. LIBRARY - DAY

    Alya and Hande are in front of the library. Alya is stompingher foot on the ground. A lady appears gets close to thelibrarys door, takes out a key from her pocket and opensthe door. Alya goes inside after the lady.

    ALYAFinally.

    Alya goes to one of the sections and takes out a lot ofNational Geographic Kids books.

    NARRATORThat day I found a tiny littlearticle that there may have beenmermaids long time ago.

    Alya shows it to Hande with excitement. Hande smiles.

    INT. CAR - DAY

    Alya is sleeping in the back of the car as they return home.Hande is driving. Looks at Alya from the mirror, smiles,shakes her head.

    INT. CLASSROOM - DAY

    A classroom with small desks. Every four desk has been puttogether in order to make the students see each other. Thereare names on each desk. Also there are many drawings, acalender, a board which helps to measure the studentsheights, etc. on the walls. A TEACHER is sitting on hertable. She is in her early 30s. She has brown, short curlyhair, hazel eyes and she is wearing glasses.

    NARRATORI started preschool a year after.

    Almost everyone was calling me"Ally". I was very happy with mynew name. I had a great teacher anda great class. We were gettingalong very well even though wewerent that similar. Some were"too quiet", "too lazy", "tooactive". I was "too social".

    Hande enters the classroom, smiles and goes towards theteacher. The teacher smiles, gets up and shakes Handeshand. Hande sits on one of the chairs in the classroom.

    TEACHERThank you for meeting me. I wantedto talk about a few things aboutAlly. She is a great kid. She is sosmart, so loving, incrediblygenerous. Everyone loves her somuch. She fit in more thaneveryone. The only thing is shealways wants to tell somethingexciting to her friends while Imteaching. The kids are so curiousabout her stories so it becomesdifficult for me to teach. I triedto talk to her and Ill continue todo my best and convince her. I justwanted you to know. But actuallythe main thing I wanted to talk toyou about were these.

    The teacher shows Alyas drawings to Hande. They are allrelated with her father. In one of them all three of them

    are in a castle. Everyones name is written underneath. Alsonext to Alya "Princess" is written and "King" and "Queen"next to Hande and Semih. A few tears roll down from Handescheeks.

    INT. AIRPORT - DAY

    Atatrk Airport which is in Istanbul. Alya is holding astewardess hand. She is holding a stuffed toy, a panda withher other hand. The stewardess is pulling Alyas pinkluggage which had the Disney princess pictures with herother hand.

    NARRATOROf course I was missing my dad! Iwas a little girl! So mom decidedto send me to Turkey during thesummer break.

    Alya and the stewardess pass a sliding door and there is abig crowd there. Semih gets through the crowd and runs tohis daughter. Alya smiles with joy.

    ALYADaddy!

    Semih holds Alya in his arms with a big smile.

    SEMIH(in Turkish)

    My beautiful little girl! Youvegot taller and even more beautiful!

    Semih turns to the stewardess.

    SEMIHThank you.

    STEWARDESSNot at all. She is adorable.

    Stewardess leaves the luggage and goes to the otherdirection. Semih heads towards the exit of the airport withAlya in one arm. He pulls the luggage with the other hand.

    EXT. STREET - DAY

    A site with many small, cute houses. Alya is holding heraunt ILGINs hand. Ilgn is in her 30s, she is tall and shehas dark, straight hair. They are walking on the side of astreet. Alya is looking left, then right, then left again,then the back. She looks so curious.

    NARRATORMy dad took me to Izmir, so that Icould see the folks. Gradmas,grandpa, aunt, uncle, etc.Everything was so different inTurkey. The people, the

    environment, even the colors weredifferent. I was so amazed by allof these stuff.

    Alya looks at a houses garden. There is a small pool in thegarden and there is a watermelon in it in order to keep itcool. Alya stops and goes near the pool with a bigcuriosity.

    ALYAOh my God!

    Ilgn goes after her and at the same time a LADY who is

    chubby,in her late 50s and is the owner of the house appearsfrom the garden. The lady looks at Alya with a smile andturns towards Ilgn.

    LADY(in Turkish)

    Is she a foreigner?

    ILGIN(in Turkish)

    Oh shes my niece. She is living inthe States.

    LADYOh! Hi, how are you? What is yourname?

    Alya looks at the lady. Ilgn bends towards Alya.

    ILGIN(in Turkish)

    Come on Alya talk to the nice lady.Answer her.

    Alya frowns. She looks at the lady with a grumpy face.

    NARRATORI hated when they asked me to speakin English. What am I? A monkey?

    Ilgn looks at Alya and the lady. She gets even closer toAlya.

    ILGIN(in Turkish)

    Come on baby! Show her how greatyour English is.

    Alya looks at Ilgn with a even more grumpy face. She

    whispers.

    ALYA(in Turkish)

    I dont want to!

    Ilgn smiles at the lady kindly and a little embarassed.Alya leaves Ilgn there and continues to walk on the side ofthe street by herself.

    INT. AIRPORT - DAY

    Reagan National Airport. Hande is waiting with a crowd. Thedoor opens and Alya appears. She looks chubby and she isholding a stewardess hand. She is holding the same pandawith her other hand. Hande looks surprised as she getsthrough the crowd. Alya sees her and smiles. Hande smilesback.

    NARRATORMom who couldnt put anything in mymouth other than yogurt andpepperoni pizza was surprised ofthe fact that I had been eaten...Well... Everything. I looked like a

    muffin.

    Alya runs to Hande. Hande hugs and kisses her with a bigsmile.

    INT. CLASSROOM - DAY

    A classroom which is very similar with her preschoolclassroom but there are also other things on the wall. Thereis a spelling board which shows how to spell some hardwords. There is a board with lots of numbers related withsome math problems. The desks are organized the same, theyare grouped four by four and they are all facing each other.There is a white board on one side, and small lockers onanother side. Alya and her classmates rush into theclassroom. Their teacher Ms. Brotman enters the room rightafter them and closes the door.

    MS BROTMANBut you all messed up your lineagain.

    Alya looks at Ms. Brotman with an innocent face.

    ALYABut Ms. Brotman were not ants.

    The classmates laugh, Ms. Brotman cant help helself andsmiles. She walks towards Alya, gently pinches her nosetip.

    MS BROTMANI wish you all, were ants.Especially you!

    Alya giggles with a spoiled attitude. Ms. Brotman puts herhands together and looks at the class.

    MS BROTMANOkay, since its Friday I will showyou a very good movie, I thinkyoull all enjoy it.

    The whole class cheers. They start moving in their seatswith joy and make a lot of noise.

    MS BROTMAN(a little louder)

    Now if youre going to act likethis I have to organize somethingelse where you will be quiet.

    They all get silent.

    MS BROTMANLets get into our line silently.We should be respectful to theother classes right? If you makeany noise we will have to return toclass immediately.

    All of the children get into line two by two, silently. MsBrotman goes to the door after they finish getting intotheir line.

    MS BROTMANNow slowly and silently okay?

    Ms. Brotman opens the door and leaves the classroom. Thechildren follow her.

    INT. TELEVISION ROOM - DAY

    A television room with a few chairs and many cushions on thefloor. The floor is covered with carpet grey from wall towall. There is a big television on a television consolewhich is leaned against a wall. There is a video player on

    the shelf underneath the television. There is a big steelcabinet next to the television console with lots of videocassettes on its shelves. The children sit on the cushionson the floor. Some of them move the cushions from theirplaces in order to be closer to the television.

    MS BROTMANNo, no not that close.

    Ms. Brotman takes one of the childrens hand and gets himup. She takes his cushion and puts it further from thetelevision.

    MS BROTMANNobody gets more closer to thetelevision from this point okay?Its very bad for your eyes.

    The children listen to their teacher and sit the way shetold them to. Ms. Brotman takes a video cassette from theshelf.

    MS BROTMANNo talking during the movie okay?If you have something urgent to saycome to me quietly.

    Ms. Brotman turns on the television and puts the videocassette into the video cassette player. She presses play onthe player. The children are looking at the screen withcuriosity. The title "The Sound of Music" appears on thescreen. JULIE ANDREWS appears after the title. Alya islooking at the television with wide open eyes.

    JULIE ANDREWS(singing)

    The hills are alive with the soundof music...

    Alyas eyes open even more she is not moving at all.

    ALYAUh-oh.

    The song goes on. Alya is looking at the screen like she ishypnotized.

    INT. PLANE - DAY

    Hande and Alya are on the plane. Alya is looking from thewindow and singing. She does not know the German words "aufwiedersehen" so she makes that part up.

    ALYA(singing)

    So long, farewell "ovindusey"goodnight!

    NARRATORThis was even worse than the Disneymovies! I was chirping like achubby spring bird all the time! Idont know why my mom never said"shut up!". Actually she had herown problems. We were returning toTurkey. She didnt want to, but

    couldnt leave dad. All thatsinging probably got her furtherfrom her thoughts. Or maybe it madeher suicidal. That is a higherpossibility I guess.

    Alya continues to sing while Hande tries to sleep.

    INT. SCHOOL - DAY

    Alya and Hande are walking side by side in an elementaryschools corridor. Alya is looking around with a surprised

    almost terrified face. The corridor has grey marble tiles onthe floor, white walls and dark green boards hung up onwalls. There are some white papers pinned to these boardswith some writings on them.

    NARRATORReturning to Turkey wasnt at allhow I expected it to be. As I andmy mom walked along the corridor Iexpected a door which opened tosomewhere where they kept all ofthe colors. Kinda like "Alice inWonderland". I didnt mind tobecome huge or shrink into the sizeof a virus. I wasnt even expecting"all the colors of the rainbow" oranything. Maybe just a blue or redor yellow.

    Hande stops in front of the door which is written "viceprinciple" on the name plate next to the door. She knocksthe door and a woman in her late 50s who is the VICEPRINCIPLE opens the door. She looks at them and smiles.Hande smiles too, Alya doesnt.

    VICE PRINCIPLE(in Turkish)

    Hi! Im glad to see you!

    The vice principle kisses Hande on her cheeks.

    HANDE(in Turkish)

    You too. Sorry were a little late.Im just not used to the roads yet.There are no signs or anything.

    VICE PRINCIPLE

    (in Turkish)Oh Honey, welcome back to Turkey.

    She bends a little to get closer to Alya.

    VICE PRINCIPLE(in Turkish)

    And this pretty girl must be Alya.

    NARRATORWhen she got closer I figured outwhere they kept all of thosecolors. As she got more and more

    closer I was becoming more and moreinto black and white. Oldies...They had a point.

    The vice principle holds Alyas face between her hands andkisses her both cheaks. Alya shuts her eyes instantly whenshe kisses her. She looks very disturbed.

    VICE PRINCIPLE(in Turkish)

    Okay, now we can go to your class!

    As they leave the vice principles room Alya holds onHandes hand tightly and looks at her like a puppy. Handeseyes get wet. She puts her other hand on her littledaughters hand.

    HANDE(only her lips move)

    I love you.

    ALYA(only her lips move)

    I love you too.

    The vice principle stops in front of a classroom. Hande andAlya stop too. Vice principle looks at Alya.

    VICE PRINCIPLE(in Turkish)

    I will intoduce you to someone assweet as you!

    She knocks the door and enters. Alya looks at her mother,hardly smiles and goes after the vice principle. The teacherMs. Ayan who is in her early 50s a little chubby, who hasshort dark hair and big glasses walks toward them with a bigsmile. She looks at Alya.

    MS AYAN(in Turkish)

    Hi Alya Im Ms. Ayan. I wasexpecting you!

    Alya doesnt say anything, she only looks around. There aredesks for two in three rows. Nobody is smiling, everyone isjust checking her out from head to toe. Everyone is wearinga uniform. The girls have dark red skirts, white shirts anddark green sweaters on top of the shirts. The boys had thesimilar shirts and sweaters, they also had grey pants. Allof the girls hairs were either made a ponytail or braided.Everyone had dark shoes. Alya looks down at her pinkt-shirt, jeans and white shoes with pink details.

    MS AYAN(in Turkish)

    Its okay for today but we have tocome to school with uniforms okay?

    NARRATORIt was official. I was in hell.Actually hell would probably bemore interesting with those firesand all.

    The vice principle leaves the room.

    MS AYAN(in Turkish)

    Everyone, Alya has just came backfrom the States. I hope youll helpher getting used to here.

    Ms. Ayan points at an empty seat in the front row next to ashort, chubby boy with dark curly hair.

    Caner wont be here for a while soyou can sit on his seat for now. Wewill figure something out when hecomes back.

    Alya sits on the empty seat. Ms. Ayan goes near theblackboard on wall. Alya looks at the small writings on theboard.

    MS AYAN(in Turkish)

    Okay we can continue. "a, , o, u"are back vowels...

    Alya looks at the boy next to him he is writing the thingson the board like crazy. She takes off her pink backpack andtakes a notebook with colorful pages.

    NARRATORI had no idea what she was talkingabout, so I decided to write, orlets say tried to write.

    The boy next to him looks at Alyas notebook. When he getscloser she sees that he has dried flems around his nostrils.She looks disgusted. The boy whos name is Vehbi raises hishand.

    VEHBI(in Turkish)

    Ms. Ayan! Ms. Ayan

    MS AYAN(in Turkish)

    Yes, Vehbi.

    Vehbi points at Alya.

    VEHBI(in Turkish)

    She is writing them all wrong!

    Alya looks at her with anger.

    NARRATORAnger. I dont think I had feltanything like that before. I washoping that he will choke with hisown flems right that moment.

    Ms. Ayan gets closer to Alya.

    NARRATORI was thinking now shes gonna kickhis ass. An ass was kicked, but thetarget was different.

    Ms. Ayan looks at Alyas notebook.

    MS AYAN(in Turkish)

    You are mixing up the vowels. Youshould be more careful.

    Alya frowns. Ms. Ayan goes back near the blackboard. Alyacontinues to write. Vehbi tries to look at her notebookagain. She covers it with her left arm. Looks at him as sheis threathening him.

    EXT. SCHOOL YARD - DAY

    Alya is wandering around the school yard. There is abasketball and soccer field, some wooden benches and fewsmall areas with some flowers. As she walks around, she seesa three girls who are getting closer to her. They stand infront of her.

    PELIN(in Turkish)

    So, you came here from the stateshuh?

    ALYA

    The three girl laugh as they leave. Alya looks so angry, sheis about to cry. She walks very fast and goes inside thebuilding.

    INT. SCHOOL - DAY

    She gets inside the building. She cant help her tears rolldown. She is singing silently as she looks around.

    ALYA(singing)

    Raindrops on roses and whiskers onkittens. Bright copper kettles andwarm woolen mittens. Brown paperpackages tied up with strings.These are a few of my favoritethings.

    She sees the toilets and runs inside.

    ALYA(singing)

    When the dog bites, when the beestings, when Im feeling sad, Isimply remember my favorite thingsand then I dont feel so bad.

    She gets near the sink and washes her face.

    DERIN(in Turkish)

    Dont listen to them. They donthave anything else to do other thanbothering people.

    Alya turns and sees a tall, thin girl with dark hair anddark eyes. Derin smiles.

    DERIN(in Turkish)

    Im Derin.

    ALYA(in Turkish)

    Hi, Im Alya.

    DERIN(in Turkish)

    I know. Were in the same class.You have the right to freak out.Dont worry everythings gonna befine.

    Alya smiles. Derin smiles back.

    NARRATORAnd after her, it was fine.

    They both leave the toilets.

    INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY

    Alyas and her familys living room. There are big colorfulcouches with wooden details. Alya and Derin are sitting onone of the couches side by side looking at the televisionscreen. A song from "Sound of Music", "Do-Re-Mi" is heard.

    NARRATORShe thought me how to survive inthis rough place, so, as a thankyou I shared my place to escape

    from the "rough".

    Derin speaks as she is looking at the screen.

    DERIN(in Turkish)

    I dont understand most of them butI cant stop looking! Its amazing!

    Hande enters the room with some sandwiches and orange juice.Alya looks at Hande and smiles.

    EXT. SCHOOL YARD - DAY

    Alya (11) is sitting with Derin and some other kids. Theyare all talking and laughing.

    NARRATORIt was different I was aware of it.But I had my mom and dad with me,had a great friend and made more.Everything got better and better.

    The school bell rings and they get up as they continue theirconversation.

    INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

    Alya (13) is sitting on the couch looking at the televisionscreen in the living room.

    NARRATOROf course I got help whenever Imdepressed. I guess I was slowlyrealizing the fact that reality ismuch different than this fantasyworld. I was giving up on expectingthem to happen and see them as some

    kind of an anti-depressant.

    Alya turns off the television and stares at the blackscreen.

    CUT TO BLACK

    Hospital sounds and people who are running around can beheard. They speak Turkish from now on.

    DOCTOR(voice only)

    Alya, I need you to swallow after I

    put this through your nose, okay?Can you hear me?

    FADE IN:

    INT. HOSPITAL - NIGHT

    Alya (16) opens her eyes. Shakes her head instead of saying"yes". The doctor directs a long straw to her nose. Shelooks disturbed and closes her eyes one more time and thescreen goes black again.

    ALYAAaahhh! Do we have to do this?Seriously?!

    DOCTORUnfortunately we do..

    ALYAI think Im gonna throw up now.

    Nurse grabs the trash can and places it near Alya.

    INT. HOSPITAL ROOM - DAY

    Derin enters the room where Alya is lying on the bed with aserum attached to her arm and a heartbeat monitor attachedto her finger. Derin has a flower and some books andmagazines in her hands. She gets closer to Alya with aworried face.

    Alya grabs the magazine from Derin and starts turning thepages immediately.

    DERINAlya I was so worried, everybodywas.. Youre mom and dad are comingback from Italy, Tolga is stillshaking so they didnt let him in.I mean.. Youre acting like nothinghappened, wanna talk to me aboutit?

    ALYAWhats to talk about? I was feelingbored. Then suddenly I hitrock-bottom.

    DERINBut everything looks perfect inyour life. I mean youre parents,friends, boyfriend...

    ALYAYeah, thanks to that.

    DERINWhat?

    ALYA(sighs)

    I dont like him that way okay? Idont feel any excitement, anypassion. Like hes my brother orsomething.

    Well, actually Im tired ofbelieving that there is some kind

    of a perfect prince for me.Whenever I did they kept turninginto frogs and not like those cuteones, those ugly, sticky ones thatgive you varts.

    DERIN(shakes her head)

    This is sick..

    ALYA(widely opening her eyes)

    I know!

    DERIN(with a louder voice)

    No! Youre sick! This.. thing whichyou have done is sick! For what?For some stupid, spoiled ideas. Youhave no right to create chaos justfor attention.

    ALYAWhat?

    A nurse enters the room. She looks at Derin.

    NURSEYou need to leave the room.

    DERIN(to Alya)

    Yeah! Thats what youre all about!Creating drama! This one.. it wasjust too much. Im done. Just..Whatever. Im out.

    Alya looks after Derin. Nurse goes after her too. Everything

    slows down. She looks outside the window next to her bed. Itis raining. She closes her eyes. She smiles but tears rolldown her cheeks and to the pillow. She sings as her eyesstay closed.

    ALYAI am sixteen going on seventeen...

    FADE OUT.
