Screen recording | iPadOS

#1 Screen recordingiPadOS contains a built-in feature to record screencontent.

You can choose to record audiosimultaneously using a microphone or the built-in one.

You have to manually enablethis feature.

Please update your iPad to thecurrent version of iOS first.

In order to use this feature firstnavigate to „Settings“ and tapthe icon.

Tap „Control Center“ in the leftpane.

Next tap „Customize Controls“.

Toggle the element „Screen Recording“ by tapping on thegreen “+“ icon.

The element „Screen Recording“ will now appear under the“Include“ section of Control Center.

#2 Start a screenrecording

Due to the 16:9 aspect ratio ofmost videos we recommendrecording by turning the iPad sideways into a landscape view.

Because iPads have a screenratio of 4:3 the resulting videoonline may view with blackbars on either side of the video.

To begin a screen recordingopen the „Control Center“.

To view it, swipe down from thetop right corner of the iPad‘sdisplay.

The „Control Center“ now offersan icon for „Screen Recording“.

You can choose two options:

- When tapping the icon fora short time, a screenrecording commenceswithout audio from themicrophone.

- When resting the fingerbriefly on the icon, a sub-menu will appear offeringyou more options.

You can switch on themicrophone of the iPad.

Tap on „Start Recording“ tobegin.

#3 Stopping a screen recording

When finished recording, returnto the Home Screen and tapthe red recording icon in thetop right corner of the iPad‘sdisplay.

You will be prompted toconfirm the action.

You will be informed that yourvideo was saved to the „Photos“app on your iPad.

#4 Edit thevideoAfter you finished recordingyour video, iPad OS offers somebasic editing functions.

You can trim the beginningand/or end of the video so thatthe contents are focused on thecontent you want to teach.

Launch the „Photos“ app on your iPad and pick the videoyou just created.

Tap on „Edit“ in the top rightcorner.

You can tweak various settings.

- Trim video(camera)

- Brightness and contrast(control dial)

- Filter options(overlapping circles)

- Cropping and rotation

If trimming (shortening) yourvideo, keep pressing your fingeron the timeline below thevideo.

The frame now turns orange and you can edit the desiredlength.

Once you performed yourchanges, tap the check markicon in the top right corner.

(For more complex edits like combining multiple videostreams or performing edits at any desired point in the video, you need editing software. Oneexample on iPad is “iMovie“ .)

Choose the channel where youwant to release your video.

In the channel overview, tap on the icon for „neuen Beitrag hochladen“ (upload new entry).

Enter a title for the video.

Scroll to the end of the page.

Tap on „Datei auswählen“ (choose file).

- „Video aufnehmen“ (recordvideo)(Record a video with theintegrated camera andupload directly)

- “Fotomediathek“ (photolibrary)(Choose a video from thelocal photo library)

- „Durchsuchen“ (search)(Search the file directory ofyour iPad for a video toupload)

After you tap on „Fotomediathek“ (photo library) you see your most recentphotos and videos on your iPad.

Tap on “Bildschirmaufnahmen“ (screen recordings) and pick a video to upload.

Please keep in mind to choosethe „Standard Workflow“ so that your video will be renderedcorrectly.

Next tap on „Beitrag erstellen“ (new entry) so that the videowill be uploaded to flowcasts.

Once your video has beenreleased you will receive a mail with a link to access it.

You may also view the videodirectly on Stud.IP via a plugin.
