Step 1 Gathering of Information
Prior to and during the first meeting, team members gather as much relevant information as possible regarding the student’s past and present educational and/or behavioral performance. Information should be gathered from a variety of sources including parents, official school records, and anecdotal records.

Step 3 Development of Education Plan
After evaluating the existing information, the team develops an individual educational plan specific to the student’s strengths and weaknesses. Strategies and techniques are brainstormed and agreed upon by all those involved in the implementation process. A timeline for follow-up and evaluation of progress is established.

Scenario 2 A middle school student has just transferred into your school and is in your math class. Your student is struggling with the content and when you discuss the student with other teachers in the major content areas they have the same concerns. Upon receiving the records from the student’s previous school, you notice that the SST process had already been started. They have included the data they gathered in the student’s files. What is the next step to take in the SST process?

A Kindergarten student has continuously shown behavior concerns in and outside of the classroom for the entire academic school year. The classroom teacher has kept anecdotal records of his behavior in the classroom, along with his reading assessment scores and math progress checklists. The teacher has attempted to schedule several conferences with the student’s parents but has been unsuccessful. The teachers that have this student have tried different strategies put forth by the SST but with little to no progress. What is the next step the team must take in the SST process to appropriately help this student?

School counselor provides a K-BIT assessment a small version of an IQ tests to see where the child is if the child is low. During the meeting they provide their data and they go over any referrals or conduct related history in school. Anything that the counselor might have access to, information from home, things that may be going on at home. School Psychologist is there at the final process. Once the team has concluded that this child, from their perspective needs special education services. The child is then run through a battery of tests by the psychologist like the WIAT-III and sends out behavioral assessments to the parents and to the teachers BASC-2. Once those are returned the psychologists analyze that information as well. Then the team will meet again and the psychologist will conclude what areas of concern that the child will need services in. GET THIS INFORMATION FROM THE SMEs.
