'There is no win and no fail. There is only make' John Cage Scratch Night, Friday 4th July, 7.30pm Do you have a show in development? The glimmer of an idea? Want to get audience feedback and find out if Quarterhouse is the right place for your work? 'Scratch' is a process of developing new performance that originated at Battersea Arts Centre in South London. It has since travelled the world, with scratch nights taking place at venues from the Royal Court in London, BAM in New York, to the Sydney Opera House. The idea is that new performance is developed in relationship to a live audience - rather than behind closed doors. Scratch nights are supportive environments to take creative risks, test new ideas and an opportunity to find out how the final performance will work for audiences. It's important to say that this process doesn't suit everyone! But it can help you take your work in a new direction that you might not otherwise have pursued, try an idea that needs testing before you really understand what it is, and finally create new work that places the audience experience at its heart. We host one scratch night per season. When selecting artists to take part in our scratch nights, we prioritise supporting Kent-based artists, and artists with whom we are interested in developing long-term relationships. However so far, 50% of applications are accepted so if you live outside Kent and we haven't met you yet, it's still worth applying! We cover travel expenses to Quarterhouse, although we have a small budget per scratch night so if you are a large company we may not be able to cover all your travel. If we have budget left over after covering travel, we also seek to cover the cost of any consumables - please let us know what these are and a rough cost. We look forward to meeting you at Quarterhouse in the near future. Allegra & Katie Who are you?
