THE MISSION OF SCRANTON PREPAs a Catholic and Jesuit college preparatory school, Scranton Prep’s mission is to help families form young people who are well prepared for college and who will live lives that give greater glory to God. Accordingly, we seek to form graduates who are intellectually competent, open to growth, religious, loving and committed to doing justice. In doing so, we seek to prepare our students for college, for life, and for eternity.

2SCRANTON PREP

Scranton Prep believes that educating a teenager is really about forming a human being with particular habits of mind and heart. We seek to help families form graduates who are well prepared for college, well prepared for a life of faith in a doubting world, well prepared for a life of service, hard work, and family.

Faith, service, hard work, and family: these are Scranton values, Catholic and Jesuit values, Scranton Prep values.

But how do we measure our success? Our college acceptances for the class of 2020, and the many classes before them, are one way. Another is what our young alumni in college overwhelmingly report to us: they were well prepared for college. Finally, we look to the family and professional lives our alumni lead after college.

But what about the day by day at Prep? How do we know measure our progress as we form young people?

St. Paul, in his first letter to the Corinthians, tells us that God has generously scattered His gifts widely among all human beings. These gifts are given, in differing types and degrees, for the benefit of the receiver, to be sure, but, even more for the benefit of others, for all of us, for the Common Good. Our gifts are meant to be shared in warm generosity. We measure ourselves by that vision.

Scranton Prep is a vibrant Jesuit college preparatory school community committed to academic excellence. We are also a family of faith seeking to share our gifts and talents with all – for the good of our Prep community and the good of the whole world. If that kind of school community appeals to you, we hope you will join us in the great adventure that is Scranton Prep.

These pages will help explore and explain how educating the whole person comes to life at Scranton Prep. I hope you find them useful as you consider Prep.

AMDG,

REV. RYAN J. MAHER, SJ PRESIDENT
