2. Running a Meeting
In the GIC, youll get the guidelines for running a meeting, and further details on Programme Planning will be covered in the next step, the Basic Training Course.
In the meantime, BE PREPARED and remember to plan ahead, looking at the
Long Term (school calendar year, annual Scout events, holidays etc)
Medium Term (each school semester)
Short Term (meetings for the month and each week)
3. Keep in Mind
If you keep the following in mind, youre on your way:
General gathering (if your units tend to gather in dribs and drabs, you may want to plan an activity that individuals can join as they arrive e.g. The History Quiz)
Official Opening (Familiar routine for the youngsters; take note of openings for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts)
Rowdy Activity (One which works off energy)
Other activity (A little more quiet could be in Sixes/Patrols)
Clearing up (Dont forget to let the youngsters learn their responsibilities in this department)
Closing (See notes as per official opening)
4. Evaluation
EVALUATION: with your unit team, always remember to evaluate how the meeting went:
Did the youngsters enjoy it?
Did the leaders enjoy it?
What worked well?
What didnt work well? Why?What could we change to make it work?
This process of evaluation can prove useful when planning for future meetings, as it will give an indication of what worked, what didnt, and what could work with a few minor changes.
5. Remember
Remember, teamwork is:
Coming together
Sharing together
Working together
Succeeding together
6. Fun
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER TO MAKE IT FUN FOR YOUAND THE YOUNGSTERS!
