Scott Abbott “The PorchLights Guy” Specialist in Character Education & Career-Centric Life Skills SCOTT ABBOTT is an authentic servant leader. He’s an innovator, businessman, and social investor. He’s started, purchased, and managed companies. He’s also worked with thousands of people, and hundreds of corporations, including: IBM, Microsoft, GE, Apple, P&G, McDonalds, Lilly, Oracle, HP, Intel, Sprint, Amazon & Harley Davidson. Scott is a student and teacher of business, and life. However, he thinks of himself foremost as a son, husband, father, friend, and humanist. It was in this spirit of compassion and commitment - coupled with what he calls his civic duty,” that he wrote his character education book Pocket PorchLights: Reflections, Insights, and Recommendations for Helping Young Adults Succeed in Business and Life (while benefiting “older” adults who live and work with them). Pocket PorchLights is an award-winning, best-seller that will help young adults - of all ages - be happier and more successful at work, home, relationships, and life. Scott’s also an acclaimed speaker to businesses, schools, philanthropic, and faith-based organizations. In his “edu-taining” talks, Scott leverages his book, blogs, and other relevant/newsworthy material - along with great music, impactful videos, and some pretty cool cerebral magic. Scott’s conversations help level- set, inspire, and enlighten as he discusses the importance of good choices, work, balance, compassion, values, servant leadership, family, character, change, perspective, attitude, aptitude, and mindfulness. To complement Pocket PorchLights, Scott founded The PorchLights Group, which helps young adults with character education, and career-centric life skills. It’s Cause: enable young adults, as well as their schools, employers, families, and communities - to achieve more happiness, and success. Its Mission: lifelong learning, earning, and wellbeing. Its Goal: enlightenment and prosperity, for all. The PorchLights Group also funds and manages The PorchLights Foundation, which mentors and invests in purposeful young entrepreneurs, building purposeful businesses. Scott also serves as a business and technology strategist, and advisor to schools, corporations and not-for-profits. Previously, he was a senior executive with Avnet, a $17B technology distributer, where he helped lead their work with hundreds of technology companies. Prior to Avnet, Scott was the founder and CEO of Eviciti a software development, IT, web design, and consulting company - which he started out of his basement in 1996 with only $500. Within three years of starting Eviciti - Scott and his team raised over $7M in venture capital, which was used to buy companies, hire employees, invest in infrastructure, and accelerate the firm’s expansion, and merger. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana Scott has lived in several US cities, and overseas, where he spent much of his youth living in a combination of England, France, and Spain. Scott graduated high school from The American School in Madrid, and college from DePaul University in Chicago. He was a finalist for an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award, and was a Master Entrepreneur in Residence at Indiana University. In addition to his work and various philanthropic activities, Scott’s also writing his weekly blog, and his next book, both titled “THRIVING IT”.
