EXCEL IN JEE ADVANCED!! SESSION ON ELECTROSTATICS BY KUNAL SINGH

Whenever an aspirant thinks about Cracking IITJEE the first thing he analyzes is the major topics which he can say he must be confident of .Every aspirant prepares a list of Topics as per his SWOT Analysis. And I am quite sure every serious aspirant thinks of “Electrostatics “ as a must do and scoring Topic which nobody can even dare to skip. If you analyze JEE Papers , you can easily find that Electrostatics is given its due importance every year with quite respectable weightage in terms of marks.

Well I would like to say that its quite simple , interesting and scoring topic which can definitely give a big boost to your rank in JEE Advanced/mains. Whenever I discuss the importance of Electrostatics with my colleagues and friends in IIT’s ,all of them have the same word –“Easy and must do”!! which definitely means that If you are not able to electrostatics in JEE paper ,you are definitely going to miss the Top 1000 Berth of JEE Express.

To start with strategy to prepare Electrostatics, I would rather recommend to go through “ Resnick Halliday Physics for the Theoretical Cocepts followed by H C Verma which is a beautiful book utilizing all the micro concepts to enhance your confidence. Once you are done with these you can have a deep understanding with “University physics by Zeemansky” which definitely puts you at par with IIT JEE. To brush up and stand tall , solve selected problems of I.E.Irodov which has few very similar questions as per JEE Level. NCERT is also recommended as the New Ncert has really good stuffs to go through. Dont miss it. Do remember that use of Symmetry , calculus mathematics and micro logical fundas are an integral part of Electrostatics Question asked every year in JEE.

After summing up all these, one should try to solve previous year JEE Question papers which is definitely a litmus test for every aspirant.IIT JEE always try to amalgamate multi concepts in a single case problem. In JEE papers you can find Simple Harmonic Motion concept or mechanics concepts(kinematics/Energy conservation/work energy theorem etc) applicable in Electrostatics questions.

Also you can always relate symmetry of Gravitation with Electrostatics. Let’s have a look over the below mentioned problem set.

Q) A small negatively charged ball of mass ‘m’ is suspended on a long insulating string. Another small negatively charged ball is slowly moved by a student toward the first one from a large distance. Eventually, the second ball is placed at the original location of the first one. At that moment, the first ball is elevated a small distance ‘h’ above its original position. How much work is done by the student moving the second ball? Ans: 3mgh [ Hint :

Question 2: Two small particles have electric charges of equal magnitude and opposite signs. The masses of the particles are m and 2m. Initially, the distance between the particles is d, and the velocities of the particles have equal magnitude ‘V’. However the velocity of particle 2m is directed away from particle m, whereas the velocity of particle ‘m’ is directed perpendicular to the line connecting the particles. In the subsequent motion of the particles, they are found to be at a distance ‘3d’ from each other-twice ! Find the possible values of the charge of each particle. Ans:

Teased!!! Welcome to the Conceptual world of physics where you need to buck up all you screws to come out with flying colors. Well Talking about JEE 2014 Advanced paper is always like discussing the nature of earthquake or a tide which are mostly unpredictable.

Additionally , I would emphasize that few questions were in the paper where students had to enforce their analytical ability to solve the problem i.e we can say “ RATTA FAILS HERE “.You will not be able to solve using formula only. If you analyze the questions of IITJEE (Question no 6 and 7 of JEE 2014 paper-2) of question , you will find that cramming couldn’t help.

One can only guess the maximum and minimum intensity but never the accurate scale and the responses are always mixed depending upon aspirant’s preparation level. Anyways, I would like to put my concepts being a physics Trainer after completing my studies in the so called Intellectual Campus of IIT Chennai. I will join you all over the webinar on “Electrostatics” scheduled by Spenedea. So Guys see you in the sessions!

To finish up lets have one more real life Case study given below:
