Introduction of science in Islam: There are plenty of references to knowledge (different branches of science), in fact there are approximately 1200 verse (Ayaat) in the Quran. Also there are approximately 70 verse that praise Science and Scientists, encourage them to be involved in discovering the universe for the good of humanity. As a matter of fact the first five verses revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH ) ordered him to read and learn.

“Read! In the name of your Lord who created - Created the human from

something which clings. Read! And your Lord is Most Bountiful - He who taught (the use of) the Pen, Taught the human

that which he knew not.” Al-Alaq 1-5

Introduction of science in Islam: « We have reviewed and classified these verses according to their scientific topics and also studied the rationale behind their recurrence in the Qur’an. The studied verses were categorized according to their scientific topics as follows: (Dr Mohammad Jamil Al Habbal, Scientific miracles in the Glorious Quran) (01)

Introduction to the concept Miracle (‘Ijaz):

1. "An event that appears so inexplicable by the laws of nature, that it is held to be supernatural in origin or an act of God."

"A person, thing or event that excites admiring awe."

"An act beyond human power, an impossibility." (Ahmed Deedat, Al-Qur'an - The Miracle of Miracles) (02)

2. « The word “miracle” expresses an event that is beyond the capacity of man or society. » (Caner Taslaman, The Quran Unchallengeable Miracle) (03)

The Origin of the universe (The Big Bang Theory):

The Big Bang theory, first proposed in 1950, holds that the universe in the beginning was concentrated as one unit in the form of condensed matter and energy. The original condensed matter arose from an empty space the time span of the Big Bang was equal to the twinkling of the eye.

Page 8: Scientific Miracles in The Quran

“Have not those who disbelieved known that the heavens and the Earth were

joined together (as one unit of creation), before We clove them asunder”

« And our command is but, like the twinkling of the eye » (Al-Qamar, 54:50)

The Creation of Iron:

Modern astronomical findings have disclosed that the iron found in our world has come from the giant stars (supernova) in outer space. The new scientific discovery had also revealed. Iron was sent by burning stars traveling through space that had collided with earth.

Page 10: Scientific Miracles in The Quran

"…And We sent down iron in which there lies great force and

which has many uses for mankind...." (The Qur'an, 57:25)

Notice that the verse above ,Allah says clearly "We sent down iron.... and He didn't say "We created iron from earth.... ". This clearly states that iron was created outside the earth and was brought down by the Will of Allah Almighty for a purpose.

Mountains:

« Have We not made the earth as a wild expanse (habitable)? And the mountains as pegs?» The

Event, 6-7

This verse means that: “That Mountains have underlying roots.” (Frank Press & Siever, The Earth) (04)

Page 15: Scientific Miracles in The Quran

Mountains: “And We have set on the earth mountains

standingfirm lest it should shake with them.” The

Prophets, 31

The author of the Earth book, Frank Press, likens the mountains to wedges, the greater part of which remain underneath the surface of the earth. In this book, Dr. Press explains the functions of mountains, drawing special attention to their important role in stabilizing the crust of the earth. This information exactly matches the statement in the Quran. (Caner Taslaman, The Quran Unchallengeable Miracle) (05)

The two seas:“ He has let free the two seas meeting together.

Their is a BARRIER between them, they do not transgress.”

“Modern Science has discovered that in the places where two different seas meet, there is a barrier between them. This barrier divides the two seas so that each sea has its own temperature, salinity and density.” (Principles of Oceanography, Davis.) (06)

Clouds and the process of rain:

« Do not you see that God drives the clouds, then joins them together, then piles them on each other, then you see the rain comes forth from between them. And He sends down hail from the sky, where there are mountains of it. And strikes those with it whom He will and diverts it from whomever He wills. The vivid flash of its lightning nearly blinds the sight.»

Clouds and the process of rain:1. Clouds move thanks to winds: The fact that the wind

is the primary cause in the process of the formation of clouds that generates rain is depicted in the previous verse…

2. Joining: Then the small clouds combine to form a single large cloud. (Caner Taslaman, The Quran Unchallengeable Miracle) (07)

Page 20: Scientific Miracles in The Quran

Clouds and the process of rain:

3- Piles them on each other: When the small clouds join together, updrafts within the larger cloud increase. The updrafts near the center of the cloud are stronger than those near the edges. These updrafts cause the cloud body to grow vertically, so the cloud is stacked up. This vertical growth causes the cloud body to stretch into cooler regions of the atmosphere where drops of water and hail formulate. When these drops of water and hail become too heavy for the updrafts to support them, they begin to fall from the cloud as rain, hail, etc. (Caner Taslaman, The Quran Unchallengeable Miracle) (08)

Order of Formation of the Human Body.

“…We then formed the drop into a clot and formed the clot into a lump and formed the lump into bones and clothed the bones in flesh; and then brought him into

being as another creature. Blessed be God, the Best of Creators!" (The

Qur'an, 23:14)

Order of Formation of the Human Body.Recent research proved during the

seventhweek:the skeleton begins to spread. At the end of the seventh week and duringthe eighth week, the bones take their familiar shapes. the muscles take their positions around the bone forms. (Moore, Developing Human) (09)

Human embryonic developments:

In the Holy Quran, Allah speaks about the stages of man’s embryonic development:

« We created man from an extract of clay. Then We made him as a drop in a place of settlement, firmly fixed. Then We made the drop into an alaqah, then We made

the alaqah into a mudghah... »

Literally, the Arabic words: - Alaqah has three meanings: (1) leech, (2) suspended thing, and (3) blood clot.-Mudghah means chewed-like substance.

Page 26: Scientific Miracles in The Quran

Human embryonic developments:

• In comparing a leech to the embryo at the transitory stage (alaqah) we find similarity between the two. (The developing Human, Moore and Persaud, 5th ed., Page:8) (10)

• Also, the embryo at this stage obtains nourishment from the blood of the mother, similar to the leech which feeds on the blood of others. (Human Development as described in the Quran and Sunnah, Moore and others, Page:36 ) (11)

Human embryonic developments:

The suspension of the embryo, during the alaqah stage, in the mother’s womb (uterus).

Human embryonic developments: A) Drawing of an embryo at the mudghah stage. We

can see here the somites at the back of the embryo that look like teeth marks. (The Developing Human, Moore and Persaud, 5th ed., p. 79.) (12)

Cerebrum:“Let him be aware! If he does not stop,

We will drag him by the Forelock, a lying, sinful forelock” (96:15-16)

Page 30: Scientific Miracles in The Quran

Cerebrum: The prefrontal cortex constitutes the bulk of the frontal lobe of the brain, and its function is involved in the making of one’s personality. It is also considered as a superior center among the centers of concentration, thinking and memory. It plays a significant role in the person’s emotion and it is somehow concerned with initiative and discrimination.

Page 31: Scientific Miracles in The Quran

Cerebrum: Prof. Dr. Keith Moore, who stated that the front of the head is responsible for judging and for directing human behavior. The working organs of the body (e.g. the limbs or tongue) are but tools to carry out the decision made in the front of the head. He, confirming what he had said, added: « When a person intends to tell a lie, the decision is made in the frontal lobe of the brain, which is the front of the head. If he wants to commit a sin, the decision is made there, too »

Conclusion:« Is it not sufficient for them that

We have revealed the Book to you which is read out to them? It is indeed a grace and reminder for people who believe »

29-The Spider, 51

There are millions of other things in the Quran that Human capacity haven’t reach them, know them yet, this is why our God have asked us to seek knowledge …
