The conference aims to increase the number of research
publication and improving the academic atmosphere
through the improvement of research quality so that the
results of the research will be known to the public and
can be produced massively as part of the improvement of
the people’s life quality and prosperity.
To make UNNES known in a wider community, through
Research and Community Development Institute (RCDI)
or LP2M, UNNES creates a platform- this second
international conference, to gather a group of all
academicians, practictioners, students, and all related
stakeholders to share their results of the research, ideas,
practices, and concepts. These groups of people are
expected to exchange their researc result and disseminate
their practices to gain a glimpse of current ideas or issues
or concepts needed to improve the life quality using
certain strategies based on their result of research in any
areas.

IDENTIFICATION AND DETAILED
CHARACTERIZATION OF METAL-OXIDE
POWDERS AS A FUNDAMENTAL
CHEMICAL PRODUCT
Bunsho Ohtani
Institute for Catalysis, Hokkaido University
email: [email protected]
Abstract
Here we report identification of metal-oxide, such as titania,
powders with their energy-resolved distribution of electron
traps (ERDT) measured by reversed double-beam
photoacoustic spectroscopy. The ERDT patterns combined
with conduction-band bottom (CBB) position data for various
titania powders were different depending on the kind of
sample. The degree of coincidence () of ERDT/CBB
patterns was evaluated for a given pair of samples as a
product of each degree of coincidence for ERDT-pattern
matching, total density of electron traps and CBB position. It
was shown for titania photocatalyst powders that the higher
the values of () was, the higher was the degree of
coincidence for photocatalytic activities.
Keywords: Fingerprint; Electron traps; Degree of
coincidence.

INDUSTRIALISED BUILDING SYSTEM
SOLUTION FOR THE CONSTRUCTION
INDUSTRY IN PRODUCING
AFFORDABLE HOUSE
Mohamed Nor Azhari Azman
Sultan Idris Education University
email: [email protected]
Abstract
In line with the current housing demands in the global
market, the construction industry has shifted its focus to mass
production assembly in order to standardize the product
development. This strategy has prompted the Malaysian
construction industry to study the value added of construction
industry from the various countries that have achieved the
implementation of prefabricated technology such as the
United Kingdom (UK), United States (US), Australia,
Singapore and Hong Kong. In Malaysia, the prefabrication
technology is known as Industrialised Building System (IBS)
which is defined as a complete process system of
construction works where almost all the component structures
is manufactured onsite or offsite, and the product is
transported to the site and to be installed in the high precision
coordinate joint as well as achieve high quality works, and
accelerate the time of completion of the projects. Thus,
appropriate technology is required and global standardization
has changed the past practices of the construction industry.
Some of the advanced technology may not be suitable with
the local condition on factors pertaining to the environment;
The 2nd UICRIC 2018| 15
level of workers’ skills, knowledge and competence;
venerable resources and competent manufacturer to fabricate
the mass production as well as high-quality products.
Therefore, the construction industry has adapted the
technology to suit to the local condition. A very simple
example is the advantages of Malaysia tropical weather,
where the manufacturer is able to cure the concrete by natural
curing instead of using the oven with high investment and
high maintenance. Similarly, the same action was also being
taken by the government of Singapore and Hong Kong to
spread the use of prefabrication system widely in public
housing. The use of the prefabrication method enable its
usage to build up high rise building and able to send the
prefabrication components to the limited access area and the
component is directly erected from the crane. Therefore, IBS
is suitable for cities and regions with the problems of dense
population and with insufficient land for housing
development. In addition, affordable homes are becoming a
vital issue to meet the demand with an increasing population
growth. With the industrializing of the construction sector,
houses can be produced in mass production. The government
has encouraged the construction industry to move towards
IBS which can produce high volume of houses at affordable
cost especially low-cost houses. Government agencies such
as Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) and Construction Industry
Development Board (CIDB); and researchers have played
vital roles to educate the main players of the construction
industry in the form of policies, financial incentives, strategy
guidelines, workshops and seminars to increase the
awareness among the end users and clients.

THE STORY OF POLISH “ORIENTALNESS”
– RESEARCHING ISLAM IN POLAND
Karolina Rak
Jagiellonian University
email: [email protected]
Abstract
Polish academia has a long tradition of studies on Islam and
its heritage. One of the most interesting ideas brought up by
researchers is based on the observations of cultural
encounters throughout the turbulent history of the country
leading some to coin terms such as Polish Orientalness. This
term denotes a set of identity and cultural characteristics
opposed to Orientalism (as defined by Edward Said) due to
different experiences of relations with Muslim communities.
Building on the role of such historical figures as Count
Waclaw Seweryn Rzewuski, whose manuscript is considered
to be an ethnographic treasure of knowledge of the Arabian
Peninsula it seems extremely important to highlight voices
once lost and unknown in the modern Polish academic
curricula while creating a ground for a more thorough
research on Islam in a non-Muslim country

DIGITAL HUMANITIES: NEW TOOLS AND NEW
KNOWLEDGE
Simon Musgrave
Monash University
email: [email protected]
Abstract
A key aspect of the rapidly growing field of Digital
Humanities is the application of computational tools to
problems in humanistic research, a process which can lead to
exciting new knowledge. I will illustrate this development
with examples from my own research and from that of other
scholars showing how the new tools are applicable across
many areas of research in the humanities. In particular, I will
discuss how the recent development of machine learning
algorithms has made it possible to investigate more fully
insights based on a theory of meaning (distributional
semantics) which is over 60 years old. Although most of my
discussion will focus on the application of new skills to
research in the humanities, I will end by switching the
perspective and considering how such approaches can enrich
education in the humanities and produce graduates equipped
with diverse skills which will serve them well in our digital
world.
