Let’s start with the introduction of new

vocabulary

Competition: ◦The struggle among organisms for limited resources in an area.

Population Density:◦A measure of a population’s size in relation to the size of the area in which the population lives.

Limiting Factors: ◦A factor that causes population growth to decrease.

◦When looking at competition in an ecosystem, limiting factors can make a huge difference. In the next few slides, we are going to look at some of those factors.

Deforestation: ◦ To cut down and clear away the trees and forests. ◦ This includes over-fishing and over-hunting

Predation: ◦The capturing of prey as a means of maintaining life.

Natural Disasters: oHurricane, tornado, flood, severe droughto Equally devastating to populations regardless of

size
