INDUSTRIAL PRACTICAL KNOWLEDGE TRAINING PROGRAMME
The students are given best opportunities to visit industries every semester for acquiring
practical knowledge through Industrial Practical Knowledge Training (IPKT). Apart from theory
subjects, CKCET gives primary importance to Practical also. The objective of IPKT is to help the
students to realize the function of the industrial sector and view the real machine and its operation in
a naked eye for better understanding.
As per our Schedule, t all the first year students from all the disciplines visited the companies
Allva Plast, UCAL Polymer. The following were the schedule.
Date

CIVIL & CSE 75 UCAL Polymer
The main objective of this PKT is to mainly focus and understand the technical aspects of the
analytical subject; to get clear view about the manufacturing of PVC pipe and higher molecular
polymers (which can hold high temperature up to 240) and to interact with company persons to get
idea about the recent trends and developments in polymer companies.
After reaching the company the students were segregated into three batches( 25 students per
batch) . The HR Manager along with one faculty member explained the various section and cleared
the doubts of the students. This PKT mainly covered the unit-I of the theory paper CY6151 –
Engineering chemistry-I which deal with types of polymer thermoplastic and higher molecular
polymer which can hold high temperature polymer. After receiving the feedback, the students got
clear knowledge about the manufacture of PVC pipe, the nature of the raw materials and their uses.
As the part of our Academic schedule, the deparment arranged IPKT in the 2nd semester also
to E.I.D.Parry. The main objective of this Practical Knowledge Program was to focus on the technical
aspects of the analytical subject; to get clear view about the manufacturing of sugar ethanol and
electricity; to interact with company personnel and to get idea about the recent trends and
developments in sugar industries. The students were segregated as follows for a better observation.

After reaching the place, the students were divided into five batches ( 30 students a batch). HR
Manager along with faculty members explained the different process involved in the sugar
manufacturing. Through this IPKT, the students got clear knowledge about sugar manufacturing and
the current features of industries. They witnessed how the electricity is produced from the waste
product and how the molasses are used for fuel. They got clear picture about the extraction of spirit
and the boiler and its corrosion.
PKT coordinator arranged another two companies for students: HILLS minerals and SPRING
minerals. The main objective was to focus on the technical aspects of the analytical subject; to get
clear view about the water treatment by physical chemical and biological treatment; to interact with
company personnel and to get idea about the recent trends and development in water sanitization and
to know knowledge about the water testing instrument. The program was scheduled as given below:

The students were divided into five batches consisting of 30 students each batch. The HR
manager along with faculty members explained the different process involved in the water
purification company. From this industry, the students got idea about the water treatment. They
witnessed the filtration by Sand, Activated carbon and micron filter. They also learnt the Reverse
Osmosis and the ozonation and UV treatment of water. They have seen the unique programmable
logic control of the packing mechanics fully automized technology
Communication Skills Activities
Good communication skill is the key to success in life, work and relationships. Communicating
the intended message clearly and effectively is an important skill. It is a key factor in deciding the
chances of success and getting a career. Improving the communication skills is an art that comes with
regular practice. Practice makes a man perfect. With this noble intention we have been conducting
Communication Skills classes for the first year students.Nearly 294 students of the first year
department have got benefited through our activities during the academic year 2014 – 2015.
The Objectives of communication skills are …… To create a love for English language. To make the students understand the importance of English language. To develop the language acquisition skills. To enable them to think in English. To enable them to listen, speak, read and write in English.

Activity I - Newspaper Reading
Reading English newspapers can improve the reading skills, vocabulary and writing skills. Hence
this activity had been continued throughout the year to improve the communication skills of the
students.
Students were allowed to read the newspaper for 15 minutes
The students learnt nearly 400words through this practice of reading.
Apart from reading, the students were also asked to write their own comments about the
NEWS they have read.
Newspaper Issuance
Odd Semester
The Times of India newspaper was issued on 18/08/14 (Monday)
It was issued for 75 days from Monday to Saturday.
Even Semester
The Times of India newspaper was issued on 05/01/15 (Monday)
It was issued for 75 days from Monday to Saturday.
Activity II: Self Introduction
Self-introduction is both a personal and professional communication skill that is needed in our everyday life.
In conversation, when you meet a person for the first time, the first thing everyone expects is to introduce
yourself and likewise to the other person. The mode of introduction varies depending on gestures and language
one use. It is very essential for a student to excel in the art of Self Introduction to fetch a job in this global
village. Hence we have started our communication skills class with the first activity Self Introduction.
The activity Self Introduction was started on 11/08/14 (Monday)
This activity was continued for 2 months
Assessment for the Activity II – Self Introduction
The assessment for the second activity was done on 27/08/14 by the Heads of the respective
departments of the students.
Activity III Role Play
Role-play is an effective technique to animate the teaching and learning atmosphere, arouse the interests of
learners, and make the language acquisition impressive. Role-plays give students the real opportunity to
demonstrate how to use English in real life situations and make them focus more on communication than
grammar. The third Activity, Role play, was conducted on 01/09/14 till 28/09/14. Students actively
participated in this activity and had learnt to communicate in different situations. The students were evaluated
by the Communication Skills team
Assessment for the Activity III – Role Play
The assessment for the activity Role Play was done by the Communication Skills Coordinator
Activity IV – Extempore
Extempore is a stage performance which is carried out without preparation of any kind. This term is
mostly used while referring to speech and poetry discussions. Speaking without any preparation of
any kind in front of a huge audience can give creeps to anyone. There are many times when we are
expected to speak out of our knowledge and without prior preparations. Inorder to make the students
to face the interview without any hindrance, we conducted this fourth activity This activity was started on 03/01/2015 (Saturday)
This activity was continued till the end of April 30/04/2015 (Thursday)
Assessment on the Activity IV – Extempore
The assessment for the activity Extempore was done by the Heads of all the Departments
Merits of the Communication Skills Activities

importance of English language. We enabled the students to listen, speak, read and write in
English.
Our Students have come out from shyness and ready to communicate without any barriers
Our students have participated in many National and International Conferences
Our students have presented their papers in both the National and International
conferences
Our students have published their papers in the International journals
Our students can communicate effectively during the time of their interview, for they have
been used to it.
