A REPORT ON ACTIVITIES OF SCIENCE FORUM (AAVISHAKARA)

Science forum aims to provide an appropriate forum for the students to

exchange their views and thoughts among themselves on recent trends in the

different field of Science and Technology and environmental issues. The acrivities

conducted during the year 2019 – 20 are -

1. Orientation for I B.Sc PMCs and PCM students – 29/07/2019

Orientation programme was been arranged for I B.Sc PCM and PMCs students

in Room Number G3. All the students were given information regarding the

college and its rules, dress code, semester scheme, examination patterns,

attendance, teaching staff introduction, entry survey, various committee

coordinators introduction, sports, culturals, etc.

2. Parents Teachers Meeting 14/08/2019

Parents teachers meeting was been held in Room number G4. The parents of

II B.Sc were asked to come between 10.00am to 12.00noon. All the Science

staff addressed the parents regarding the college rules and regulations,

Attendance and Tests. Also they need to continuoultly be in contact with the

staff.

3. Workshop on “Communication skills and public speaking” by Prof .Nagaraju

XL acedemy and Dr. usharani Maharanis Science college, Bangalore. 19-08-

2019 & 23-08-2019

Sponsored: XL Leadership Academy, Bengaluru & LIONS Club,

Hanumanthanagar

Time: 9.45am to 1.00pm

On 19th August, the workshop was inaugurated by the Chief guest Dr. Nagaraja

Rao, Principal Dr. Jenifer Lolita and students by watering the plants. The

students from first and final year B.Sc along with few teachers attended this

workshop. The workshop mainly focused on how to overcome stage fear,

improve communication skills, how to give a speech in public, how to know the

personality of a person by looking into a person’s gesture. Sir explained about

great personalities like Dr. Abdul Kalam, Einstein, Arya Bhatta, etc. Sir made

most of the students to read the sentences and explain the contents and its

meaning.

There was question and answer session. Also students were given different

topics like – super computers, quantum physics, and mathematics and were

asked to do group discussions. Two groups consisting of 10 girls and 10 boys

were made. Best speaker was awarded with cash prize. Coffee/tea and snacks

were given to the students during the break time. There was a person by name

Lion Thippeswamy who was good at calligraphy. He wrote all the certificates

for the students and the teachers who participated in the workshop.

Students were motivated by way of giving chocolates when they answered the

questions. At the end of the session, students were made to give vote of thanks

and most of the students were made to give vote of thanks. Finally all the

student and teacher participants were given certificates.

The same programme was repeated for second year B.Sc students on

23/08/2019. On the whole 47 students from first year, 32 students from second

year, 19 students from final year and about 25 teachers were benefitted from

this programme. On 23/08/2019 students were served with food in the

afternoon.

WOKSHOP ON COMMUNICATION SKILL AND PUBLIC SPEAKING

4. Field Visit – An exhibition was arranged in M G road by the department of

Science and Technology under the Metro Station – 11-10-2019.

All the PCM students were taken to visit the museum and exhibition which

was organized in MG Road under Metro station. Sri Praveen, Guest faculty in

Chemistry explained all the stalls visited and also a short movie was been

played there.

5. Workshop for BBMP High School students on 5-01-2020

BBMP High school students of about 45 visited our college for one day to

learn the basics of computing. Smt. Shubha. S HOD, Department of Computer

Science first briefed about the basic concepts of computers and gave 15 free

text book on Computer fundamentals to the students and the staff. After

explain about the basic concepts, they were taken to the computer lab in 2nd

floor for practical demonstration. All the students were given the assignment

of typing a leave letter to the teacher in MS Word and was asked to use excel

sheet to type the subject marks and find sum and average of marks. They all

had fun in learning and was very thankful to Smt. Shubha. S for the session.

6. Physics department organized a special lecture on 8-02-2020 by Dr. Raveesh

from CMRIT, Bangalore for B.Sc students.

The programme began with an inaugural song by III B.Sc student Kalpana which

was followed by welcome speech by Queen Evagelin. The Programme was

inaugurated by our College Principal Dr Jennifer lolitha and chief guests in the

presence of Sri Smt Kouslya.S, HOD of Mathematics, Shubha.S HOD of Computer

science and Dr.Srilatha.M.C HOD of Physics and Prof. Raghu N V ,Dept. of Physics.

Teaching faculties of Department of Commerce and Arts were also participated in

the programme. He has given so many inputs and assignments to our students.

He also performed simple experiments through easily available things. He

explained the concept of physics through mathematics. In future this will help

and motivate our students to scale new heights.

SPECIAL GUEST LECTURE BY DR. RAVEESH FROM CMRIT

7. National Science Day is celebrated all over India on 28th February every

year in order to commemorate the invention of Raman Effect by Sir C.V

Raman.

On this occasion, Science forum Aavishakara in coordination with IQAC

Committee had organized various activities and Competitions for B.Sc

students.

a. On 26-02-2020 Conducted Essay Writing inter classes competition on

the Topic “Women in Science”. The winners of Essay writing – I Prize

b. On 27-02-2020 debate inter class competition was been conducted on

the topic “The impact of technological progress on the devastation of

earth”, along with other activities like - Quiz, Chart Making and Model

Making.

c. Special Guest Lecture by Dr. G. Venkatesh, Department of Physics,

The programme began with an inaugural song by II B.Sc student Sugandha

which was followed by welcome speech by Prof Raghu N.V. Associate Professor

of Physics. The Programme was inaugurated by our College Principal Dr

Jennifer lolitha and chief guest Dr. G. Venkatesh in the presence of Smt

Kousalya.S, HOD of Mathematics, Shubha.S HOD of Computer science and

Dr.Srilatha.M.C HOD of Physics,. Teaching faculties of Commerce &

Management, Arts and Language were present in the programme.

Dr.G Venkatesh, National College, Bangalore addressing the students about

the remarkable contribution of great Scientists towards the field of Science.

The programme was followed by an audio visual presentation on “A tribute to

first Indian Scientist Dr C V Raman to win Noble Prize”. Dr.G Venkatesh, in his

presidential address also highlighted the significance of National Science Day

and motivated our students to take part in Science related activities.

The programme was followed by Prize Distribution for all the winners in the

various sciences activates from the dignitaries present. The programme ended

with vote of thanks by Dhanush S N of III BSc.

8. FIELD VIST to IISc - OPEN DAY

Every year during National Science Day, IISc Bangalore holds an open day for

students and public to let observe first-hand activities of the Institute. For the

enrichment of knowledge to the students and to inspire them, all the science

students were taken to IISC on Open day- 29th February 2020 by

Dr.Srilatha.M.C HOD of Physics, Smt Kousalya.S, HOD of Mathematics, &

Shubha.S HOD of Computer science.

The Open day involves a variety of events such as Talks, Interactive Demos,

Open Labs, Competitive events, Fun experiments, etc from all the

departments of IISC in which our students were excited to know the various

concepts of Science and ongoing research work in Science.

9. B.Sc students participated in ‘Science and Art Exhibition’ Competition

organized by Basaveshwara college of Science, Rajajinagar, Bangalore on the

occasion of National Science Day.

10. Students participation in Quiz, Essay Writing, Drawing Competitions in

Karnataka Science & Technology Academy on 11-02-2020 & 12-02-2020.

IIIBsc students Dhanush & Thulasiram took part in maths quiz, Kalpana &

Sanjaykumar participated in Science essay writing and Preethi.

Kalpana.M.R got II prize and cash prize of Rs 2000/- & she was selected for

state level competition.

11. Apart from academics, students were also encouraged to participate in

extracurricular activities like in Culturals, Sports, NCC, NSS, Rovers and

Rangers.

a. IBsc students Thenraj, Keerthikumar, participated in kabadi organised by

Bangalore university & got 2nd place

b. Bindu and Deepika of I B.Sc took part in service camp of Asian Aquatic

Championship held in and around Bangalore.

13. Laptops were distributed for all the First Semester B.Sc PCM & PMCs

students by Science faculty issued by DCE, Government Of Karnataka.

FREE LAPTOP DISTRIBUTION FOR 1ST B.Sc STUDENTS BY SCIENCE STAFF

14. Online Classes were conducted for all the classes of Science students during

COVID-19 lockdown period.
