Welcome to University Prep Science & Math Middle School

“THE YEAR THE CHAMPIONS RETURN!”

Dear UPSM Middle School Families,

WOW! How I have truly missed you all! I can’t believe the amount of time that we have been

apart. This summer, we were able to slowly start enjoying certain activities, gathering in small

and safe groups with family and friends; as well as being able to begin to reimagine our ‘new

normal.’ How do we operate after all that has happened? How to safely come back to school?

Well….I am so glad that you asked that question! We wholeheartedly are excited to welcome our

entire school scholar and staff, fully to 100% in person this fall!!!!! Our first day of school will

Registration Packet Updated on 8.1-2021

be Monday, August 30, 2021. We plan to follow all state, federal, and CDC guidelines around the

safe reopening of our schools. Every COVID-19 safety precaution will be fully in place at all

times. Our building will be on a constant rotation of a deep cleaning schedule; as well as

sanitizing stations. MASKS ARE FULLY REQUIRED BY EVERY PERSON IN THE BUILDING rather

they are fully vaccinated or not. This policy will keep everyone safe. There will be times, like

when eating or drinking, where the mask can come off. Our top priority is to keep everyone well.

We are CHAMPIONS!

As your School Director, I am elated to welcome our new and returning families through our

front doors of UPSM Middle School!!!! The learning, adventure, culture, and Crew that

awaits each young learner inside is something that we are looking forward to this school year. We

want to make sure that all of our scholars and parents are set up for success. Therefore, it is

SUPER important that you take the time to unpack and address all

needed items and return information requested in this packet! I know it is

lengthy, however, it is VERY IMPORTANT to the prosperity of our year ahead.

2021-2022 Schoolwide THEME:

Ever since I have become the School Director at UPSM Middle, we have had a schoolwide

theme. This theme has resonated with our scholars, staff, families, and anyone that interacts with us.

When thinking about our theme for the school year, we wanted to continue onward with being

CHAMPIONS! The overall theme of being Champions is needed more now than ever. I wanted

to think about what is the next level up of fighting ‘in the ring’ for what we believe in. This rang true for

us by way of RETURNING to the building, and in that process, taking care of ourselves: Mentally,

physically, and emotionally, in all that we say, do, learn, and teach.

Our school is ‘on fire’ about this theme, and ready to set this year a blaze! Each day will begin with our

Crew sessions where scholars will dig deeper into various Culturally Responsive

and Social-Emotional Learning activities; in order to engage in a common practice

in our school and The U PREP Network.

What should You expect in the first few weeks of school?

Now knowing that we are officially taking on a FULLY IN-PERSON LEARNING

EXPERIENCE to begin our school year, you and your scholar can expect many opportunities to

connect with teachers, staff, and administrators, in order to feel comfortable with our return. So

PLEASE make sure to check your emails and text messages often for many updates and any

in-person opportunities! A great start is stopping by our registration week beginning

August 16th!

We will continue to utilize this platform across UPREP Schools! More information will be

forthcoming.

What do we promise for the middle school experience?

The UPSM MIDDLE SCHOOL faculty and staff recognizes that middle school is a special time

in the lives of children as a set of dynamic biological changes that unfold; having a profound

impact on their cognitive, social, and emotional development. Research shows that these

changes require a radically different and distinct approach as young adolescents are not simply

older elementary school students, nor younger high school students. Adding to this important

insight, UPSM MS is a competitive powerhouse for learning! We embrace opportunities for

academic innovation providing for a unique instructional, curricular, and administrative approach

to the education of scholars.

Quintessential to our success, you play a vital role as engaged parents, working alongside us as

partners! This partnership helps to guide the success of students through timely and open

two-way lines of communication, progress monitoring, and early notification support

problem-solving; as we foster positive parent-teacher relationships in an environment where

higher order thinking is valued, and creativity is fundamental.

I am so elated to partner and serve you ‘in the ring’ this year as we create and empower strongCHAMPIONS returning to in-person learning!!!

So let’s get ready to have a ‘KNOCK OUT’ year of teaching and

learning as we are all looking forward to the 2021-2022 school year!

Here we go with our gloves UP, and ready to enter “THE year that THE

CHAMPIONS RETURN!!!!!!”
