SCHULICH RESEARCH DAY2017
Celebrating innovation,
research excellence and
collaboration
RESEARCH CELEBRATION
The 3rd Schulich Research Day is
an opportunity to refl ect
upon and celebrate our research
interests and achievements,
as well as a time to think to the
future of business education.
On behalf of the Schulich School of Business, I wish to extend a warm welcome to all of the presenters, organizers and guests at the 3rd Schulich Research Day.
Research Day is a terrific opportunity for our School to showcase the cutting-edge work of our faculty, and we are delighted that so many of you could be here with us to share in this celebration.
Schulich’s faculty members have been producing world-class research for many years now. They are among the most innovative scholars in the world, conducting breakthrough research in numerous fields of business. Some of that groundbreaking research is on display here today.
Our faculty’s outstanding work has been recognized externally through numerous awards, editorial review board appointments, and research grants. In 2015 alone, Schulich faculty members were awarded $3 million in research funding. Research productivity is at its highest level ever based on the number of articles by Schulich faculty that have been published by top-tier academic journals. In addition, our School is home to 28 funded research chairs and professorships, and Schulich’s Centres of Excellence are a vital source of cutting-edge research.
Our faculty’s work has also been showcased internationally in books such as the recently published Re-Imagining Capitalism, a joint collaboration between Schulich and McKinsey & Company. Published by Oxford University Press, the book brings together renowned academics – including a number of leading Schulich faculty members – as well as global executives and NGO leaders who reflect on the major issues confronting capitalism today and who put forward a number of innovative proposals.
I would like to offer my congratulations to the members of our Research unit for organizing this event, and to the Schulich faculty members whose impressive research work is featured here.
Thank you for taking the time to attend today’s event. I hope you will find the research presented here to be highly informative and useful.
Sincerely yours,
Dezsö J. Horváth, PhD, CM Dean & Tanna H. Schulich Chair in Strategic ManagementSchulich School of Business

Congratulations to everyone in the
Schulich School of Business community
for your wonderful efforts in making
Schulich’s business education and
research a resounding success!
Over the last 50 years Schulich has established itself fi rmly in the top tier of global business schools, at all levels. While our status as a school is now absolutely stellar, less attention has been paid to the fact that as a research institution, Schulich is at the forefront of many of the cutting edge debates globally. Today, we celebrate the formidable work of Schulich faculty, now, and over the past fi ve decades. Scholars based at Schulich have transformed the way management research today understands core issues in many areas, including Marketing, International Business, Accounting, Sustainability and Organization Theory, just to name a few. Schulich faculty members – not at least with the indispensable support from our staff – have done an absolutely fabulous job to ensure that our credibility as a school is deeply rooted in world leading research contributions.
The Schulich Research Offi ce takes pride in presenting the research accomplishments of our researchers as well as supporting them to develop key research partnerships and collaborations within the academic and non-academic communities. The Research Offi ce assists in research planning and communication, identifi es funding opportunities and supports strategies to secure funding. The Offi ce also facilitates and advises on grant applications and budgets, and liaises with the Offi ces of Research Services and the Vice President, Research and Innovation.

SCHULICH RESEARCH OFFICE
The 50th Anniversary of the Schulich
School of Business heralded a half
century of global business leadership
and the launch of the biggest and
boldest campaign in the School’s history:
Leading Change.
Leading Change is Schulich’s fundraising and alumni engagement campaign seeking to raise $50 million by 2021.
Leading Change will provide the resources to launch a range of new initiatives and support Schulich’s three-fold commitment to knowledge creation, knowledge dissemination and knowledge application. Through Leading Change, Schulich will usher in a new era of research that will yield timely and innovative solutions and thinking. The School will leverage campaign gifts to attract scholars of the highest calibre to new privately-funded chairs and professorships and prestigious centres of excellence. The School will deepen its research in key areas of strength while at the same time developing emerging areas of research and discovery.
The Graduate Study and Research Building, now under construction, will support collaboration, brainstorming and innovative work methods through new research laboratories, classrooms, offi ce spaces, meeting rooms, and give Schulich faculty the environment they need to continue breaking new ground in management education. Schulich’s established centres of excellence will have their new home in the Graduate Study and Research Building – a physical space where synergies are maximized, and students, faculty, alumni and stakeholders can meet to discuss research applications and real world challenges.
Schulich’s second 50 years begins right here, right now. Leading Change will lay the foundation for Schulich’s future and make the School bigger, bolder and better than ever.
