But this doctrine is out shadowed by people like
Jayanta Mahapatra
Jayanta Mahapatra was the first Akademi winner in English. His legacy even counts Padma Shri
for service of this art. He also won SAARC literary award
and RaedLeaf Poetry Lifetime
Achievement Award His early childhood saw poverty,
but his life shines with fame.
He is not among those who clinches this art at young age,
but his jobs are no less
Jayanta Mahapatra was born 22 October 1928 in a low middle class family. He gained early education in Cuttack and went on to gain masters degree in Physics
He started as physics teacher in various colleges in Orissa and ended career in 1986.
It is true that poetry is not a thought insisted to be writtenbut a thought that insist one to write
poetry can peep out of brain only in peace, and a stress-laden heart can never
approach to realm of it
Jayanta began to write only after entering 40’s. As mentioned earlier, it is not everyday when it happens....
But neither its is everyday, when poetry emerges
His first literary work came out in 1971 as “Svayamvara and Other Poems”being followed by “Close the Sky, Ten By Ten” in same year”
In 1976, he came up with “Father’s Hour” and “The
Rain of Rites”In same year, he went for poem
reading in four foreign universities
AND LEGACY CONTINUES
Including the very popular, A Rain of RitesHe have authored 20 books on poetry, three on prose, seven in his local dialect.
