School Scoop eMag identified a need in the market with regards to the coverage of local school news at all levels in every town in South Africa. Where will you find a website or publication in your town which covers local school news etc? Only your local newspaper will you reply...but you and I know that you will find this only at the last two pages of your local newspaper and only certain schools feature there and that the news are already 2 months old. The reason for this is that your local newspaper has limited space available for local school news due to the high printing cost. Therefore School Scoop eMag was established to cover all the news in Local Schools all over South Africa and publish it over the net so that the whole world can read about it. We are there to give exposure to everyone, but more important, to those individuals, persons, teams whom participate in sport and activities every day, but never get any recognition.Everyone now have a chance to get the recognition they deserve and not only certain groups, schools or individuals. We make it possible for all the local Schools in South Africa to market and promote themselves by covering their news in our eMag

THE HISTORY OF MUIR COLLEGEMuir College claims to be the oldest English speaking school in South Africa, tracing its origin back to 1822, when a Sco sh educa onalist, James Rose Innes established Uitenhage’s fi rst Free Government School in Cuyler Street on 12 July 1822 with 60 pupils. In 1865 the Propriety School - more exclusive and free paying, opened. The reverend Dr. Robert Templeton M.A. was the fi rst headmaster. In 1875 the school, now known as the Public Undenomina onal School moved to Park Avenue. During 1892 the school’s name changed to the Muir Academy in honour of the new Secretary General of Educa on, Sir Thomas Muir and in 1904 a new school building was opened on the park avenue site by Dr Muir. The School’s name changed to Muir High School. Muir Senior moved to Vanes Estate in 1987 and Muir Junior moved to the Park Avenue Buildings.

College Hill donated R900 to the Diabetes Association of South Africa at a special Valentine’s assembly held at the school on 11 February 2011.

The learners and staff wore something red to symbolize their love to help out and show compassion for those diagnosed with diabetes.

The incidence of diabetes appears to be increasing at an alarming rate and is now becoming all the more common, even amongst children of a young age.

“In response to this we have thought it wise to inform our children and members of staff of the symptoms, treatment and general information regarding diabetes in order that we all

be aware of the way in which to react to this challenge,” said Miss Erica Basson, Principal of College Hill Preparatory School.

Parents were invited to attend the informative assembly which included an age-appropriate video where a young child is diagnosed with diabetes; the processes which the family need to follow as well as the necessary changes in eating habits and treatments.

Additionally the video illustrated the possible

symptoms and the way in which children can report to their teachers if they notice

symptoms of “sugar highs/lows” in peers

The Riebeek Drama Club, with assistance

from 180 learners and a few staff members,

produced the “What a World!” drama show held

at the school on 24th and 26th February 2011.

This superb show, directed by Rethabile Lottie

Botlhole, a Grade 11 learner, aimed to celebrate

our world and point out that one life can make a

difference. It took a look at our wonderful world,

pondered its challenges and sought to find

solutions.

The production explored the evolution of the

world and then took a journey to discover the

wonders within it. Along the way, the show

demonstrated our world in crisis particularly

with war, weather, power, materialism and

poverty; and then emphasized hope and the

potential to make a significant difference. The

discovery of what a cruel, crazy, beautiful, big,

wild world we have proved to be an ‘out of this

world’ experience.

“The world needs dreamers and the world

needs doers. But above all, the world needs

dreamers who do. In the show the cast was a

bunch of dreamers who honour our planet

and our place in this world, said Lottie.

The drama club annually produces

a production in which the learners

present items which are scripted,

rehearsed and directed by themselves

with sound visuals, lighting and great

organizing. A Theatre Dinner is held on

the second evening as a Grade 9 fundraiser

to extend the excitement of a phenomenal

performance.
