Parent request for School Position Report

Parents are able to request School Position Reports. These reports provide written information that clearly shows individual student achievement in the learning areas studied compared to that of other children in the child’s peer group at the school. This information shows the number of students in each of the achievement levels A – E.

To ensure that the privacy of any individual student is respected, in those schools where a group of student numbers is less than ten, information regarding a child’s achievement relative to the achievement of the child’s peer group at the school should not be made available to parents.

Report GenerationSchools will be able to generate School Position Reports once formal reports have been locked for each year group on completion of all student achievement data being entered in formal reporting.

The Reporting to Parents application generates two versions of the School Position Report: a Learning Area Grade Report – this report shows grade totals

for an entire year group of students in reported learning area/context; and a School Position Report – this report shows an individual

student’s school position for each learning area/context reported in comparison to that of other children in the same academic year group.

The reports can be generated from the Report and Print Management menu within the Reporting to Parents application. Support materials including a sample Learning Area Grade Report template in Word format are available from the Reporting to Parents website at http://www.det.wa.edu.au/curriculumsupport/reportingtoparents/detcms/navigation/sample-reports/

Sample Letters to ParentsEach school will need to determine the most appropriate way to inform parents of the availability of the School Position Report. It is suggested that schools inform parents about these reports prior to the completion of Semester 1 reporting so the reports can be generated, photocopied and sent home with the child’s formal report.

A sample draft letter to parents/caregivers is available from the Reporting to Parents website at http://www.det.wa.edu.au/curriculumsupport/reportingtoparents/detcms/navigation/sample-reports/
