THE SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT FRIBOURG(HEG-FR)

Founded in 1991 as the School of Economics and Administration (ESCEA), the School of Management Fribourg has developed significantly over the years. Progress can be seen in the scope of our training programs (Bachelor degree, Master degree, and executive education). It is also visible in the growing number of students and staff.

The School of Management Fribourg belongs to a dense network of universities, private companies, and public administrations in Switzerland and abroad. Profiting from its privileged position at the crossroads of four nations and its trilingual pro-grams, our school takes part in significant international projects. Thus, the intercul-tural and linguistic skills acquired by our students are firmly anchored in the prac-tical.

The HEG-FR is the hub where students meet with passionate teachers from Swiss and international universities and profit from the opportunity to pursue their studies in different languages.

The School has been organizing the exchange of professors in the field of entrepre-neurship and SMEs for the last 15 years. Guest professors from internationally re-nowned partner universities from all over the world teach classes side-by-side with resident professors and course instructors. Former students who have established their own successful companies are closely associated with the program so they can share their hands-on practical experience in building their businesses.

EDITORIAL

The School of Management Fribourg serves society as one of Europe’s top management schools in the fields of innovation and entrepreneurship, offering international programs at all levels. We leverage theory and the latest research insights in order to enhance the knowledge and skills of our course participants and partner organizations.

We are integrated in a wide network of national and international management schools and in developing and implementing international benchmarks in education and business knowledge. As a member of AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) our strategy is directed by a deep commitment to excellence. In addition we develop and offer new products in further education according to demand.

The excellent location of our school, at the crossroads of three countries, together with our trilingualism, allow our program participants to hone intercultural and linguistic competences in a truly unique way. The HEG-FR encourages worldwide student and professor exchange (inbound and outbound) and we also provide a variety of courses for foreign students, who, in terms of intercultural learning, are integrated in existing courses in Bachelor and Master degree programs as well as at a postgraduate level.

On the basis of this integration, these foreign students discover our students’ innovative entre- preneurial spirit and excellent implementation skills. As the School of Management Fribourg is a solid partner for SMEs, large corporations and non-profit organizations, international students benefit from this “Entrepreneur-as-professor” concept and the possibility to visit several companies.

We are convinced that our School is a perfect place to develop intercultural competences and thanks to the campus Pérolles and the innovation laboratory, we are able to establish cooperations with other disciplines in flexible ways. In hands-on interdisciplinary projects and collaboration with other experts, our program participants learn how to attain specific objectives in sustainable ways.

EVERY SUMMER WE ORGANIZE A TWO-WEEKS SUMMER SCHOOL FOCUSED MAINLY ON INNOVATION AND LEADERSHIP AS PART OF OUR EMBA STUDIES. THE IDEA IS TO GIVE FOREIGN STUDENTS AN OPPORTUNITY TO STUDY WITH SWISS STUDENTS FOR A TWO-WEEK PERIOD. CLASSES ARE TAUGHT IN ENGLISH.

During the Innovation class students focus on the conditions under which innovation strives. They dissect the contextual variables favorable to innovation and explore selected frameworks, tools, and methods of innovation. Beyond the conceptual input, the class enjoys a very practical orientation. Innovation is an issue of considerable relevance in public policy settings (regional, national, supranational) as well as in corporate and academic circles. Few ignore its strategic significance. Pacesetting firms recognize that, to stay successful, they must either constantly invent the future or re-invent themselves by speedily adapting to changes in technologies, commerce, markets, and competitive environments.

The Leadership class aims to prepare students for leadership in business, government, and non-govern-mental organizations. The course is designed to act as a bridge between technical skills (e.g. finance, marketing, strategy) and human skills (e.g .communication, creativity, culture). It aims at linking leadership and strategy. Our way of defining strategy is etymological, going back to the roots of the word. It stems from the Greek strategos, a mix of stratos (army) and ago (leading) that results in “the leader or command-er of an army”. So at its source, the meaning of strategy brings leadership (back) into the game.

Students who participate and pass successfully the final test are awarded an official certificate from the School of Management Fribourg. This course equals 4 European Credits (ECTS).

The participation fee includes hotel accommodation (13 nights in a single room and breakfast) and the course pack, including books. One day is devoted to company visits.

This two weeks will give participants insights into Swiss culture and help them to better understand how to do business in Switzerland. This time also provides a unique opportunity to study and work closely with Swiss students.
