Understanding the Application Process
• Application deadline for Spring is October 15
• Application deadline for students starting Block 1 in Fall is February 15
• 50 seats available: first come-first served.

Application Criteria
• 55 credit hours (including current semester) towards General Ed. requirements Cannot count developmental courses in 55 credits
• EDUC-F200, SPCH-S121, ENG-W131, MATH-T101, all completed with a “C” or better. “C-” does not count
• Completed, or be enrolled in, ALL Language Arts content courses
• Overall GPA of at least 2.50 (no rounding up)
• “C” or better in all L-Arts and Math content courses.
• Passing score on Praxis 1 tests or alternatives

PRAXIS 1 Alternative Scores
•PRAXIS 1 = Composite of at least 527 or individual scores
• Math 175, Reading 176, Writing 172
•ACT = At least 24 based on Math, Reading, Grammar, and Science
•SAT = At least 1100 for Verbal and Math, NOT Writing
•GRE with a score of at least 1100 based on Verbal and Quantitative
•Anyone with a Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution is exempt.

• Computer-based Tests Prometric Testing Center, Lagrange Rd, Louisville (502-423-0478) Prometric University of Louisville (502-852-6607)
• Writing scores available in approximately 2 weeks.
• Praxis can be taken once each calendar month no more than six times during any one calendar year.
• Praxis Scores are available on-line for about a month be sure to save as a PDF—costs $40+ for another report!

Studying for the PRAXIS• Praxis Registration Information brochures are available
on the wall outside the Student Development Center and in SOE Advising Suite
• Preparation materials for Praxis are available from ETS (some for sale) in the Library and Bookstore
• Allow yourself about one month to prepare and study
• Study with a friend or establish a study group

Field Experience• ALL blocks include field experiences at specific
schools both in Indiana and Kentucky.
• It is MANDATORY for students to be available Monday through Friday from 8:00 – 4:00!
Practica schedules will be set early in each semester.

What Else…?• Continue taking courses that are requirements for your degree
Set a goal to finish General Education classes before Block 1
• Make an effort to take ENG-W 250 (W 131 is pre-requisite) and MATH “T” courses as soon as possible—they fill quickly
• Keep a close watch on your GPA
• Faculty may review a student’s status at any point in the program
• If you need to e-mail anyone, please include your student ID
• See your SOE faculty advisor at least once a semester
