This presentationis designed to inform students aboutdifferent courses, levels of learning, Collegelife and facilities and the financial supportavailable.

THE HUGH BAIRD UNIVERSITY CENTREPRESENTATIONThis presentation is ideal for sixth formstudents considering their options forhigher education. It offers students aninsight into what courses we offer at ourUniversity Centre and how they aredelivered. It will also inform students of thefinance options available to them and thecost of studying for a BA Hons degree atthe Hugh Baird University Centre.

THE HUGH BAIRD COLLEGE APPLICATION CLINICS Sometimes there just are not enough hoursin the day, and trying to get students tocomplete College applications can end upbeing just another job on a long to-do list. Ifyou would like our help we offer applicationclinics for individuals or groups of students.These clinics allow students to completetheir applications with guidance andsupport. You may choose to hold oneduring form time or PSHE or students maybe allocated time slots to work with ourSchool Liaison Co-ordinator on a moreone-to-one basis.

THE ‘BIGGER PICTURE’ TOUR The Bigger Picture tours are absolutelyperfect for pupils who are still undecidedabout which subject they would like tostudy in College. Your pupils will be takenon a tour of the whole College, taking in awide variety of workshops, studios andother facilities. This is a great way to seethe bigger picture and to help youngpeople narrow down their options.

THE ‘PICTURE MEHERE’ TOUR Some pupils know exactly what they wantto do; the ‘Picture Me Here’ tours aredesigned to support them as they movetowards progressing to College. Thechance to visit the areas and meet thetutors they will work with during theirchosen course can offer pupils a greatboost, showing them a glimpse of theirfuture and motivating them to achieve theirgoals in school.

For pupils with an entrepreneurial spirit, thistaster day is bound to pique their interest.Budding business brains can bring their ideasto a ‘Planning Ahead’ day and our Businesslecturers will lead them in a session increating a business plan. It may be their firststep on the road to a seat on the Dragon’sDen panel!

CONSTRUCTIONSCHOOL BUILD

Students will compete against eachother to become the ‘Bricky’champion. The morning will consistof learning the necessary skills toconstruct a brick pyramid fromscratch. The day will end with abuilding competition which will bemarked on speed, efficiency andquality of work.

PAINTING & DECORATINGPAINT, PAPER AND PASTE

Every parent will thank you for including theirchild on this taster day. Participants will learnsome basic, and some more advanced,painting and decorating techniques. Workingin our specially built mock-living rooms, theywill be able to decorate their own sections.They will need to be creative, have patienceand a steady hand. They might just learn sometricks they can use at home!

This taster gives your students theopportunity to put their creativity anddesign skills to the test. Students willlearn how to effectively arrange flowersfor specific events and will design theirown arrangement to take away on theday. TAKE THESTAGE!The aim of this taster day is tointroduce students to basicaudition techniques to help them inpreparing and delivering futureaudition pieces. The workshop willcover:

• Choosing an audition piece• Delivering a monologue• Responding to direction /questions from the panel

• Mini performances and feedback

The session is aimed at Y10/11students who may be consideringPerforming Arts as a future career.This session would be beneficial toLevel 3 students preparing to applyfor Higher Education.

We can also offer this session fordancers, this will focus on creatinga movement piece suitable for anaudition.

SPORTEXERCISE/FITNESS FOCUS

This taster is designed to monitor and developyour students’ exercise and fitness levels.Students will be able to perform fitness tests toestablish current fitness levels. Furthermore,they will be able to participate in variousexercise and fitness classes aimed at improvingtheir fitness. There will be an opportunity for thestudents to design their own personalisedfitness plan with the assistance of an Exerciseand Fitness Lecturer. CATERING & HOSPITALITYEAT MY WORDS COMPETITION:

SPONSORED BY HILTON LIVERPOOL

We’d like your pupils to experience theexcitement of cooking their own food in theL20 Hotel School so, this year, we will berunning our Eat My Words competition for thefirst time.

Eat My Words is a competition designed toencourages school pupils in Years 10 and 11to think not only about food but about theculture, cost and environmental footprint ofthe meals they cook and eat. It will testcontestant’s culinary skills as wellencouraging them to be creative and impressus with their literacy.

Eat My Words entrants will be asked to produce a menu of three disheswhich they would like to cook in our L20 Hotel School kitchens, as wellas an article about their menu and a costing sheet for the ingredientsused is also required. Judges here at Hugh Baird College’s L20 HotelSchool will assess all the entries that we receive. 12 finalists will beinvited to come and create their menu in our professional kitchens!

The best of the 12 finalists will be invited back to the L20 Hotel School tocook their dishes for a restaurant full of invited guests and VIPs! Therewill also be prizes for the best starter, main course and dessert as wellas a prize for the best article.
