‘ICPC 2015’
DECEMBER 2015 PAGE 1
Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru played host to the continent’s best brains as
they battled on stage at the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) 2015
Asia - Amritapuri - Multisite Regionals. ICPC is one of the most coveted challenges in the field
of programming, which is characterised by a high standard of problems and a truly inspiring
display of teamwork culminating in a race against time.
Students of reputed institutions like IIT, NIT, CMI and BITS enjoyed ASE-B's
hospitality during this event which spanned over two days - 21st & 22nd December, 2015. The
event commenced with 73 team registrations followed by an inaugural speech by Ms. Paarul
Sukanya (S5 CSE) and Ms. Ashwini Nayak (S1 CSE). The Chief Guest, Mr. Shankara Narayan,
Senior Engineering Architect, CISCO presided over this event alongside Campus Director
Br. Dhanraj, Associate Dean Dr. Rakesh S.G. and Chairman-CSE Dr. T.S.B. Sudarshan.
The dignitaries were invited to light the lamp and welcomed by Dr. T.S.B. Sudarshan,
Chairman-CSE. Addresses by the Director, Associate Dean and Chief Guest gave the audience
an interesting insight into ICPC, its history and highlights on major segments of the latest
edition. A special session, spearheaded by Mr. Dinesh Garg, IBM attained appreciation from the
audience. A banquet dinner was held that night which catered to connoisseurs of different
cuisines.
An elaborate discussion on prevalent problems was held prior to the valedictory
ceremony which commemorated the victory of the Top 10 teams from amongst 313 teams that
competed at Amrita University (Amritapuri, Coimbatore and Bengaluru campuses). A live
streaming of talks by Mr. Bill Poucher, Director, ICPC and Mr. Jeff Denahoo, Executive
Director, ICPC preceded the awaited announcement of finalists for the World Finals of ICPC
2015.
Twenty four contestants of ICPC 2015 accompanied by 2 faculty members of ASE-B
later embarked on an exciting excursion to Mysore, which was organised by ASE-B.

Web Development Workshop by StudyOwl
The commencement of semester holidays began with an opportunity for students to learn
about Web Development and its varied applications. This workshop was conducted by
StudyOwl, a startup in collaboration with Amrita TBI, the entrepreneurial wing of the School, in
coordination with FACE-the CSE departmental forum. The workshop was held between 5th &
10th December 2015. It was conducted by Mr. Parth, Mr. Jaydeep and Mr. Prashant. The work-
shop was attended by around 50 odd enthusiasts across branches and semesters. The topics
covered during the duration of the workshop were: basic introduction to HTML, creating a
layout & linking files, styling of the webpage using CSS, application of bootstrap and uploading
a website using a domain server. The students were provided with the software to work on and
course related videos to help in better understanding of the concepts. The first four days of the
workshop were devoted to teaching the various topics. There was a mini Hackathon held on the
last day, where students were allowed to create their own webpage within the stipulated time
and were later judged on it. The winners of this challenge were team ‘Panache’ comprising of
Ms. Shweta Koushik and Ms. Liby Tracy. The winners and runners-up were given exciting
goodies. The workshop proved to be extremely engaging and beneficial to all those who
attended.

SAE CLUB ACTIVITY
SINE 2015 - As a part of SAE INDIA, SAE OFF- HIGHWAY BOARD organized
SINE (Student Industry Education) - 2105 a workshop to aspire women engineers in the
field of Off-Highway industry. This 2-week induction program from 13th to 24th December
2015 on Off-Highway companies was held in Pune, Maharashtra with the support of 9
organizations (John Deere, Ansys, Eaton, Caterpillar, Varroc, Cummins, PTC, ARAI,
COEP) along with 25 women engineers, selected across India from 22 different universi-
ties.
Ms. D. Manaswini (BL.EN.U4MEE13029) of S5 from Amrita School of
Engineering - Bengaluru was selected for this workshop. The overall agenda of this
workshop was to create awareness about Off-Highway industry among women engineers.
In a span of 2 weeks there were interactive sessions with CEOs, Marketing Heads and
senior most employees, which provided an opportunity to learn about their experiences,
challenges they faced in this industry and the way they resolved with a great team spirit.
The student visited manufacturing plants, assembly lines, IOC centers, testing centers
where she acquired a practical knowledge on product life cycle and the challenges they
faced during the course of different processes. This workshop gave her a broader
perspective about industrial environment and co-ordination of different departments to
achieve an effective output for betterment of company, without compromising on core
values of the organization. In brief this workshop taught her about Off-Highway industry,
its scope for new innovations in the area, production management and acted as a bridge
between theoretical knowledge and Industrial requirement.
