Message from the Principal

Hi Everyone

Parent Teacher Interviews

Tomorrow most of the conversations between parents and

teachers regarding your child’s progress since the written

report in June will take place. This is a good chance to visit

the future learning goals as outlined in the June report to

check on their progress. Teachers always endeavour to stick

to the timetable, as any conversations that go beyond the

time allocated will literally have impact on schedules right

across the school…. So if you have a point that needs

deeper clarification please agree to set another time to

address this. Other than that, please ensure you enjoy the

experience. Your kids work hard as do the teachers in

providing stimulating learning experiences day in and day

out.

Swimming program set for Term 4

A note will shortly be coming home detailing our swimming

program for 2017.

The 2017/18 Victorian Budget will announce a subsidy to

Grade 6 students in Government and Catholic primary

schools to fulfil the swimming and water safety requirements

of Health and Physical Education in the Victorian Curriculum.

Funding for schools will be announced shortly.

All Grade 6 students are strongly recommended to participate

in the program and the charge will be subsidised by the

school. Parents will only be charged the entry fee to the pool

and the cost of the buses.

In order to give every student the opportunity to learn water

safety skills, Montrose Primary School will offer optional

swimming lessons to all students in Foundation to Grade 5.

These lessons are completely optional and are offered on a

user-pays basis.

If you would like your child to participate in the swimming

program, please complete the forms and return it to the

school as soon as possible.

Sentral Parent Portal is coming – Term 4!

Thank you to all parents who have sent back a confirmation of their email address for their secure access keys for the Sentral Parent Portal. Please be advised that we are currently in a “Testing” Phase of the portal with a few select families. Access keys will be sent home for the bulk of our school families very early in Term 4. If you have not done so, please email the office at [email protected] confirming your email address so we can email your key. All unconfirmed emails addresses will have access key details posted out to your home address, which is less convenient for you and more costly for the school.

Footy Day Lunch Orders All Order forms for the footy day lunch must be returned by THURSDAY 14th September to allow our canteen manager to order the required stock. There is no guarantee late orders can be filled so PLEASE return by this date.

Absences The Department of Education and Training requires that all absences from school are explained by parents. As a parent you are obligated by law to contact the school office to explain each day that your child does not attend school. You can contact the office by calling our absence hotline (9728 2203), emailing us at [email protected], or popping by the office window. You can advise your child’s classroom teacher but please be aware teaching staff are not always able to pass the information back to the office during their busy teaching day. It is always advisable to report the absence to the office. Many parents call our hotline but forget to provide an absence reason. In all cases please provide the reason for the absence – ie ‘sick’, ‘holiday’, ‘medical appointment’, etc.

Tomato soup was enjoyed by the children on Wednesday and again, counter service was very busy at recess and lunch. We enjoyed a flash back to the 80’s as we found a group of Rubik’s cube masterminds spinning their cubes near the canteen. Footy Day – Hot Dog Lunch To assist with order requirements, please ensure you fill in a Footy Hot Dog Lunch order form for each child and return to the office with payment by THIS FRIDAY 15TH SEPTEMBER. Footy Drawings As mentioned last week and in assembly, as a part of footy day, I am inviting the children to draw pictures of footballs, favourite players, the MCG, football jumpers, team colours…..anything to do with football and I will put all of our wonderful drawings on display for Footy Day. Please put your name and class on each drawing and send to the canteen via lunch order baskets this Wednesday or Friday. HELP DESPERATELY NEEDED!!! I am still looking for someone who may be able to help in the canteen on Friday 27th October and/or Friday 8th December from 9am – 12noon. Please give me a call if you can assist. I need as many hands-on deck to keep the canteen functioning as we come into our busiest time of year Canteen Volunteer Thank you A BIG thank you to Emily Lee for helping in the canteen on Wednesday for the first time. Emily did a brilliant job and had a ball. Thank you also to Ellen Johanson for helping out for a few hours to ensure canteen service and soup service ran smoothly. Thanks to Ali Fraser Zank for helping on Friday and a BIG thank you to Kate Critchley & Claire Seymour for covering for mums who were unavailable this Friday. Amanda

The Key for Success in Term 3 is Persistence. The habits of mind that go with the Persistence Key are: Working Tough, Giving 100% effort and Believing I can do it when things get tough. Our YCDI Award winners for this week are:

Summer J, Prep J: Summer J from Prep J embodies persistence in everything she does. She

gives 100% effort in all school work and is always striving to do the best work she possibly can. In her writing she is challenging herself with trying to spell difficult words actively using the THRASS chart. Summer should be proud of every piece of work she completes as it is to such a high standard. She is a caring and resilient member of Prep J and the wider school community and always offers assistance to her class mates and teacher wherever possible. Well done Summer!

Aiden H, 2S: This student in 2S has displayed persistence and resilience all year long.

A is for always giving 100% effort I is for independently working through problems D is for dedication and working tough E is for excellence, always completing work to a high standard N is for never giving up Well done to Aiden H!

Tessa L, 2H: “If you are persistent,

You will get it. If you are consistent, You will keep it.”

This student embodies these qualities. Throughout the entire term she has demonstrated persistence and determination, always working hard and doing her best. She is one of the stars of 2H. She is Tessa L.

Veronique S, 5M: This student deserves this award, not necessarily for where she currently is,

but for how far she has come. At the beginning of the year, social disagreements would get her down and out, but she is now able to work through problems and solve, or at least attempt to solve them on her own. This improvement alone is enough to give her this award, however it doesn’t stop there. Her writing has made dramatic improvements, because she no longer gets to the end of a first draft and says “finished”, she has learnt how to revise, edit and persist with a piece of work to improve it. This persistent attitude will serve you well in the future, Veronique S. Well done!
