>It is a DepEd Order No. 87 s.2012>The SBFP was previously known as Breakfast Feeding Program (BFP) which was initially conceptualized and launched in 1997 to address the short term hunger syndrome>The SBFP aims to provide hot meals to severely wasted children

Objectives of SBFP1. To rehabilitate at least 70% of the severely wasted beneficiaries to normal nutrition status at the end of 100-120 feeding days.2. To improve children’s health and nutrition values and behavior3. To ensure the 85-100% classroom attendance of the target beneficiaries

Orientation of Program Implementers>Participants: school principals, teachers, day care workers, barangay officials, community and parent organization and other stakeholders, >DepEd Division Offices in coordination with the local Technical Working Group shall conduct the orientation.

Feeding Proper>Feeding time shall be decided by the School Head in consultation with the SBFP Core Group and PTCA according to the needs of the children and practicability of feeding. It shall be conducted at the school feeding area or separate room to avoid disruption of classesMechanics:

1. Food commodities shall be served and consumed inside the feeding area2. Practice and observe highest standard of hygiene for the preparation and serving the food3. Teach children proper hygiene4. If Beneficiaries become overweight they shall continue to be fed and refer them to PE teacher for physical activities and to the School Nurse for health counselling. Beneficiaries who are undernourished shall be referred to the Health Personnel for further assessment.5. The SBFP Core Group is encouraged to use iodized salt in cooking and to minimize food wastage by practicing portion control

The best school implementer of SBFP shall be recognized and awarded accordingly at the end of the feeding period based on the following criteria:

1. Percentage of beneficiaries rehabilitate to normal status

2 Compliance with the guidelines3. Establishment of vegetable garden4. Good practices developed and learned5. Involvement of parents and community6. Advocacy and resource mobilization

Deworming

• Deworm beneficiaries before the start of the feeding to get the full benefit of the nutrients of the food. DOH provide the deworming medicines to schools through DepEd RHN to Division offices to Schools. Get parental approval before administering the deworming medicines

Gulayan sa Paaralan Project (GPP)

• All schools should plant at least 50 malunggay trees within school premises (DepEd Memo No. 234) and allot an area for production of nutrient-rich fruits and vegetables in school. Coordinate with the barangay to establish communal vegetable garden in the community

• Separate biodegradable, non-biodegradable and recyclable materials. Use the 5 R’s to minimize garbage (reduce, reuse, recycle, repair and rethink)

clean.

• Conduct training on values formation, sustainable food production and nutrition education for parents in order to sustain family food security, increase school retention and improve nutritional status of children in long term.
