Population and territory structure

• The District of Kaiserslautern has about 100,000 inhabitants and is located in the western Palatinate in the district of Rheinhessen-Pfalz (state of Rhineland-Palatinate).

High schools Landstuhl and Ramstein-Miesenbach

• In high school Landstuhl students can can select as the first compulsory foreign language English or French. From the 6th grade must be selected as a second compulsory foreign language English, French or Latin.

• In the 9th grade a third foreign language is offered and can be chosen by students as an option.

• In addition, voluntary work groups in a range of subjects are offered.

• In upper secondary II (MSS, from grade 11), students can choose their basic and special subjects of a differentiated range of subjects.

• The schools are placed into 3-4 parallel classes, leading to Abitur (higher education entrance qualification) in grade 13 and secondary school leaving certificate after grade 10.

• The first foreign language is English (Gymnasium Landstuhl), in addition, the school offers bilingual education as a focus on a subject.

Vocational School Landstuhl:

•This vocational school allows a differentiated educational opportunities to acquire professional and inter-professional competencies and provides upper secondary I and II, enabling entry into a skilled occupation or in the secondary vocational or study-related education.

They provide students with difficulties in learning a special support. Prerequisite for receiving a student is the diagnosis of a special educational needs, which regular schools can not afford.

The schools are day schools in “offer form” (the parents decide if they want this form). They teach grades 1 – 9. On a voluntary basis, the grade 10 can be visited in Landstuhl.

Integrated Comprehensive Schools

They are placed minimum into 3-4 parallel classes. The classes are formed of children with different backgrounds, talent and inclination. So they continue the aim of learning together after the time in the primary school.

From the grade 7 a performance differentiation in the core subjects (English, German, mathematics) and a tendency differentiation begins (different offers: starting with the second foreign language and other subjects such as computers, sports, work theory, etc.).
