    Overview The Weidenfeld Scholarships and Leadership Programme cultivatesthe leaders of tomorrow from transition and emerging economies byproviding outstanding university graduates and young professionalswith:

    The opportunity to pursue fully funded graduate studies at the

    University of Oxford. Access to a comprehensive programme of leadership

    development, long-term mentoring and networking.

    Overall, the programme provides Scholars with the knowledge, skillsand international networks necessary to contribute optimally to publiclife in their countries and regions of origin and to build lastingprofessional linkages across cultures and continents.

    The programme is managed by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue(ISD).

    The scholarship is tenable only at the University of Oxford.

    Eligibility Eligible candidates must have an undergraduate degree and be anational of one of the following countries:

    This scholarship may not be held in conjunction with any other awards.

    The Scholarships are only available to students who are not alreadystudying at the University of Oxford.

    Apply at the same time as you apply to Oxford by ticking the

    Weidenfeld Scholarship box in the University of Oxford Scholarshipssection of the graduate application form.

    You must also complete and upload together with your graduateapplication form a Weidenfeld Scholarship Questionnaire. Thequestionnaire can be downloaded from this webpage (see Downloads

    Failure to apply in full by the deadline will mean that you will notbe considered for the scholarship, even if you have selectedWeidenfeld on the Graduate Application Form.

    Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an expenses-paidinterview weekend in Oxford in early May 2011

    The 2010/11 cohort includes 41 scholars from 24 countries.

    The Weidenfeld Leadership Programme includes:

    an annual ten day long Leadership and Public PolicySeminar including conferences, moderated discussions andworkshops on political philosophy and leadershipdevelopment;

    a Practical Skills training in public speaking, conflictmanagement and decision making;

    an annual European Study Tour; engagement in theInstitutes projects and conferences;

    an annual Weidenfeld Debate;

    a public policy analysis training for a selected group ofScholars long-term professional mentoring and a myriad of

    networking opportunities throughout the year.

    What costs are covered by the Scholarships?

    The Scholarship covers tuition and college fees for the entire length of your postgraduate degree (up to 3years) plus an annual full grant for living costs (13,500 in 2010/11).

    When is the application deadline?

    The deadline for applications is the 07 January 2011 for Medical Sciences and Philosophy students, and 21January 2011 for all other students

    What level of English do I need in order to apply to the University of Oxford?

    If English is not your first language, you will need to provide evidence that you have sufficient fluency inwritten and spoken English to successfully participate in your course from the outset. You will need to takethe TOEFL or the IELTS test. Specific English language requirements may vary depending on the courseyouve selected and need to be checked for each course independently.     When you apply to the University of Oxford, you need to indicate on the application form (under the fundingsection) that you would like to be considered for the Weidenfeld Scholarships and Leadership Programme. Insupport of your application for the Scholarship you must complete a questionnaire which you can downloadfrom the following site http://www.admin.ox.ac.uk/studentfunding/scholarship_profiles/weidenfeld.shtmland then upload it as part of your Oxford University application.

    If your application to the University is successful and you completed and submitted the WeidenfeldScholarships and Leadership questionnaire, then your application will be passed on to the Institute forStrategic Dialogue for consideration. From the full pool of applicants, a shortlisted group of candidates isinvited to be interviewed in person by a panel during our Selection Weekend in late April or early May each

    year.Step-by-step:

    1) Choose the course you would like to study and apply directly to the University of Oxford.Applications to Oxford University open in September and you will need to download the latestapplication form from their website:http://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/postgraduate_courses/index.html.You can apply online underhttps://apply.embark.com/grad/Oxford/13/ (more information underhttp://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/postgraduate_courses/apply/index.html)or receive a paper versionof the graduate application form. While filling in your application form, you need to express yourinterest in the Weidenfeld Scholarships by checking the box Weidenfeld under the funding section of

    the Oxford University application form.2) Complete the Weidenfeld Scholarships and Leadership Programme questionnaire and submit

    this along with your official Oxford University application form. You can download this from theOxford University website. Failure to provide the questionnaire will result in you not beingconsidered for the Scholarship, even if you have selected 'Weidenfeld' on the Graduate ApplicationForm.

    3) Submit your COMPLETE application form and questionnaire, pay your application fee and wait.4) Your application will be reviewed by the University of Oxford. If you are offered a place on one

    of Oxfords postgraduate courses you are then eligible to be considered for a Weidenfeld Scholarship.Acceptance at Oxford University is a fundamental condition for receiving the Scholarship.

    5) If you are offered a place by the University of Oxford, your application will then be reviewed bythe Scholarships selection committee. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an all expense paidinterview weekend in late April or early May. All shortlisted candidates will be requested to submit amotivational statement before the weekend.

    6) Please note: Due to the high volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.7) Successful Scholarship candidates will be notified in the week following the Selection weekend.

    What costs do the Scholarships cover during the application process?

    The Institute for Strategic Dialogue cannot pay for your application to the University of Oxford or anyrelevant English language tests. Nor can we cover any costs incurred during your interview process at theUniversity. If you are accepted onto a course at the University and you pass the first selection round for theWeidenfeld Scholarships you will be invited to a fully paid interview weekend in late April or early May. . Wewill pay for travel to the UK and for the entire interview process, which takes 2 to 3 days.

    Will I have to travel to Oxford to be interviewed for my Oxford University course?

    This depends on the department to which you are applying for a postgraduate course. However, most courseswill offer internet or telephone interviews for candidates who cannot attend a personal interview in Oxford.Please contact the relevant department directly for more information.

    Can the Institute for Strategic Dialogue help me with my application to the University of Oxford?

    Your acceptance on a course at the University of Oxford is an independent decision taken by the Universityand is totally separate from the selection and acceptance on the Scholarship programme. Subsequently, theInstitute for Strategic Dialogue does not assist you in your application.

    How many years of study can I undertake as a Weidenfeld Scholar?

    The Scholarships are awarded for the length of your chosen postgraduate degree programme. These varyfrom 1 to 3 academic years.

    Current Weidenfeld Scholars may reapply for a second Scholarship to pursue a further degree at theUniversity of Oxford.

    Do current Weidenfeld Scholars reapplying for further funding need to go through the sameapplication process as newly applying candidates?

    Current Scholars reapplying will need to send in a separate statement (not the questionnaire new candidatesfill in) answering the following:

    How the proposed course of research fits with the overall objectives of the Scholarship Programme; How the degree for which they are applying will be of relevance and benefit to their chosen career;

    and

    What other sources of funding they have applied for and the status of these applications at the timeof submission.

    Can I be enrolled in the Leadership Programme if I am studying at another university?

    No. The Weidenfeld Scholarships and Leadership Programme can only be taken as part of an OxfordUniversity postgraduate degree. The Scholarship funding and the Leadership Programme cannot be taken inisolation from each other.

    Can I combine the Scholarships with another award?

    No. The Scholarship cannot be taken in conjunction with any other awards.

    Can I apply for the Scholarships if I am already studying at the University of Oxford?No. The Scholarships are only available to students who are not already studying at the University of Oxford.

    Can I apply for the Scholarships if I have already started my PhD or Masters?

    No. The Scholarship Programme is only available to students who are beginning their courses. It is notavailable to students who have already begun their thesis elsewhere or students who do not intend to finishtheir studies at the University of Oxford.

    Can I apply to the University of Oxford and the Scholarships if I have not completed my

    undergraduate degree?

    In line with the Universitys admission policy, most departments will accept applications from students basedon projected grades, with the stipulation that the place can only be taken up if the projected grade is achieved.All offers of Scholarships are subject to the candidate being accepted by the University of Oxford.
