city electric grid
•Increased efficiency of water distribution and
improved reaction to disruptions
Schneider Electric 7 Smart Cities
Fresno, California
- USA
•The success of the department’s video police
unit has since spurred law enforcement officials
to quadruple its force of cameras to cover more
than 70% of the city’s sprawling 104.8-square-
miles, which was made easy by the unlimited
scalability of the Endura system.
•More than 110 cameras have been placed
strategically throughout the city based on crime
statistics or where identified gang members
congregate, drug dealing is believed to occur or
where there are potential targets for property
crimes such as vehicle burglary and vandalism.
•Technologies like the window-blanking feature
that comes standard on Spectra cameras, multi-
level password and user permissions
management all helped to appease concerns.
Scope of the project
& solution description
Impact
& key benefits
•Endura network video management
system and more than 100 spectra IV
IP cameras have helped police detect
and prevent criminal activity in some of
the city’s most crime-ridden
neighborhoods

make faster operational decisions, increase
customer satisfaction and cut costs.
Schneider Electric 13 Smart Cities
Shantou, China
•Water distribution system: Intuitive real
time water network management (AQUIS
Operation 3.1 by 7T) helps Shantou
Water Supply Company optimise water
consumption for the area with 1.4 M
inhabitants.
Scope of the project
& solution description
Impact
& key benefits
•Solutions have provided SWSC with an
intuitive way to understand their network in
real-time. To optimize the production planning
the tool Load Forecaster has been utilized.
Simulation results such as flow, flow direction,
and pressure in key locations has improved
the service quality. AQUIS Operation helps
SWSC acknowledge the existence of a
leakage and gives an idea of how much of the
NRW comes from theft of water and how
much from background leakage. It also
enables SWSC to better locate the leaks.
This has eased the task of field detection.
Schneider Electric 14 Smart Cities
Zunyi, China
•Telvent OASyS SCADA and ADMS:
Zunyi Power is managed by Guizhou
Power, which recently chose Telvent’s
distribution management system (DMS)
for all of its provincial cities, including
Zunyi City. Zunyi Power elected to add
Telvent’s SCADA system to its ADMS in
order to instantly receive reliable
information and analysis from the field.
Scope of the project
& solution description
Impact
& key benefits
•Zunyi Power will now have a robust
Advanced Distribution Management System
tool to serve as the foundation for its smart
grid efforts and support the planning,
operation and analysis of its distribution
system.
Schneider Electric 15 Smart Cities
Guiyang, China
•Telvent OASyS SCADA: Telvent’s
SCADA system presents critical data
through an intuitive interface that
seamlessly integrates with Guiyang
Power’s current software. It will collect
data from substation and demand
transmission units and forward real-time
information to the ADMS system for
analysis.
Scope of the project
& solution description
Impact
& key benefits
•Key benefit of this ADMS includes the ability
to solve service disruptions faster by quickly
locating the incident, isolating it and providing
recommendations on how best to restore the
power supply – all through a dispatcher’s
remote control commands to field devices
rather than through a manual procedure. The
ADMS will also help Guiyang Power curb
energy loss by moving power already on the
grid to the appropriate areas, rather than
signaling a need to generate additional
energy.
Schneider Electric 16 Smart Cities
Guizhou province
(9 cities), China
•Telvent Smart Grid DMS: Based on the
success of a previous pilot project,
Telvent will now provide its Distribution
Management System (DMS) to Guizhou
Power’s entire service territory. With the
expanded use of DMS, Guizhou Power
will have the ability to integrate and
display data using a single system that
provides real-time advanced distribution
information and more accurate
calculations for planning a smarter grid.
Scope of the project
& solution description
Impact
& key benefits
•Thanks to this single-source of data, the
state-owned utility will save on costs typically
needed for additional software and systems.
Guizhou Power will also have the ability to
share critical data more easily among
departments, increasing operational
efficiencies and providing a more stable
power supply for its 40 million residents.
